"And I have two messages: Firstly, we need to renew Europe as a business location. We need to renew our prosperity. We need to modernise. And for that we need the Green Deal. To achieve this, the Green Deal must continue to be built. And secondly, and this is particularly important for Ursula von der Leyen herself, who has not yet taken a clear position on this, if we want to continue building the Green Deal, but also if we want to continue building this wonderful European peace project, then we will not be able to do so if right-wing authoritarian and anti-European forces become part of majorities. We need a clear commitment from all democratic and pro-European parties."

    9. SOUNDBITE (German) Terry Reintke, lead candidate of the European Greens for the upcoming European Parliament elections:
"Because this European election, this directional election on 9 June, is about the future, whether we protect the climate, whether we continue to build prosperity, but also about the future of our European democracy. And yes, it will be decided on 9 June whether there will be anti-European, right-wing authoritarian, right-wing extremist forces shaping Europe's politics in the future or whether we will continue to build pro-European democratic majorities."

    STORYLINE:
Germany's Alliance 90/The Greens party launched its official campaign for the upcoming European Parliament election in Berlin on Monday.
The party's Terry Reintke is the leader of the Greens bloc in the European Parliament and is the frontrunner in the June 9 elections.
At the rally, she said that in order to secure prosperity, it was necessary to expand the so-called Green Deal, through which the European Union aims to become climate-neutral by 2050.
The strategy includes measures in various areas such as energy, transport, industry and agriculture.
Reintke also warned against a further shift to the political right in European politics.
She said the election would be a choice between "anti-European, right-wing authoritarian, right-wing extremist forces" shaping politics or building "pro-European democratic majorities."
