- In this video I show you how I've built a seat plate for my custom BMW R80 and share a few tips and tricks with you.
The tungsten electrode for aluminum is GOLD, NOT YELLOW! Yellow is mildly radioactive.
*Forgot to say that I'm gonna weld in the bracket properly, once the raw build is done.

Thank you so much, Tom! I appreciate that :)
Wow! Where did your hair go…😂😂..?. Good job as always dude: Cardboard Aided Design - Paul Brodie is my inspiration too. My impatience cost me a lot of time in the early days😂. Your time and patience (great video work and editing, etc) also awesome. Keep up the good work Josh. 👍👍🤘🤘🤓
Quite a drastic change...istn't it? :D I love the short hair - so efficient. Yeah pacience...I do have it but I sometimes have to overcome the mental pressure that things have to work out quickly.
I always appreciate reading your comments. Makes it feel more like I'm not in it alone. Thanks for that.
good job man)
Thank you, I appreciate it
Josh, you are getting good at this fabrication lark, nice one fella......Your video storytelling is informative and compelling, all very impressive. Wishing you all the best
Rich! Thank you so much. You're too kind. I appreciate your feedback. Had to think of you when taking the battery box back out. It has been a long way 😅 Thanks for still following the journey.
I also wish you all the best! Say hi to Robin for me :)
@@MotoWrenchers it's not going to be placing the final bolt, nor passing TUV, the first ride down the road, or the photo shoot, it's going to be that battery box where this journey peaks..😁
Hahaha you hit the nail on the head. It's gonna be the epiphany of this build. Not even passing the TÜV can complete 😂
Great video!
Hi Francesco, thank you so much!
Are you building a bike as well?
@@MotoWrenchers yeah! Working on a R65LS for the past 2y. I’ve kept almost everything original but the seat frame and seat pan needs to be shortened. Thanks for the precious content. Keep it up !
Sounds like a great project! By how much do you want to shorten it? And do you plan on using the original seat pan or are you going to build a new one? As you can see, I'm just figuring these things out myself but once you start it's often less scary than it seems :)
Nice job, but won't the rear wheel hit the underside when the suspension is compressed?
Hi Andrew, Thank you! Honestly, I fist didn't account for the clearance. But fortunately it works out well with the new YSS rear shocks. However, I had to find it out the hard way. I had just finished fabricating the rear fender when I notices that that actually didn't have enough room. So, I had to adjust it...twice :D Now everything works - fortunately.
What width handlebars have you settled on
That one is 760 mm wide. Have a great day!
Dude, you might wanna check the color of your tungsten elektrode again and hopefully its not yellow but gold.
I‘ve read that yellow elektrodes contain „Thoriumdioxid“ which is radioactive.
I‘m pretty sure you‘ve just mistaken gold and yellow, but please check again.
Yeah, you're absolutely right! I double checked, it's gold. Thanks for pointing that out! Added that to the description...hopefully nobody buys radioactive tungsten electrodes.
Lol why would they sell radioactive electrodes in the first place?
