It is time to pull the red Yukon apart and change over all the parts to our black Yukon frame. The afternoon crew is back again to teach me some new things. Technical terms like wobbly thingy (swivel). She is also there to mock me when things I said never go right, actually do! I'll have the last laugh when things don't workout as planned! Wait, does that mean I won, or lost?
My oldest daughter picked up a ratchet while I was changing a headlight when she was getting close to 4. She managed to find a 10mm bolt and started wrenching away as I stood there in awe. She kept at it for a while and I loved it, but my wife wasn't as impressed. Another time I was building her a cradle for her dolls and when it was finished she was more interested in the tape measure. Luckily this time I caught her on camera sitting in the floor measuring the cradle with a huge smile on her face.
It pretty much works the same at my house. I hope the little one stays interested, she is actually very helpful.
You never cease to amaze me. As you were using the hose clamp pliers, I was saying, now THAT is really cool and efficient. You mentioned something about your helper. I can remember the days my daughter was out in the garage, working on her 1962 hardtop 400 Nova. She learned many things and did enjoy helping me, as I was helping her. She was 15 at the time. It is great to see someone else teaching their kids. This world would be better if all parents take the time to teach their daughter or son. Please keep on doing what you are doing. I am sure it is helping others as well.

Thank you for this excellent video! You have saved so many of us so many headaches...and injuries! I'm mechanically inclined but have never attempted something to this extent! Now I feel much more comfortable taking this on in my cave...."like a cave man"...with out a hoist! You wish you had 3 hoists. I'd be quite happy to have one!!! Lol. Great job and much appreciated!!! Guys like the hack that installed that GM crate transmission are the ones who give honest mechanics taking pride in their work a bad name. Big name dealer techs that choose flat rate pay over quality workmanship really piss me off. I look forward to you fixing it correctly! Thanks for another great video.
I have never worked in a big dealership but have done side work for people in the truck garage and a few times I over looked something and ended up taking it back apart to make sure it was done right. Basically side work was "eh $200 will cover it" more than once I thought it would be a quick job and 6 hours later it's done.
The worst part is people think these dealer techs are the best around. The stuff I see and am constantly repairing from them is worse than if some of the vehicles owners gave it a try with no training.

It’s not only the northern states. Try being where I am. Newfoundland, Canada. I have a 2015 Sierra and my wife has a 2013 Expedition. Just had the rocker panels replaced in my Sierra and the wife’s expedition is on it’s 3rd set of power running boards. Both vehicles have about 70,000 km (35-40k miles). Believe me when I say, that isn’t rusty.
Still a fun rebuild to watch. Love this channel
This is not a lot of rust. Around here, this truck would be considered pristine. The black truck would be a fairytale. I usually end up replacing the power running boards with stationary ones after the first set. People don't like the $1000 bill more than once. Lol Rockers don't last long here either.

Had to replace the E-Brake cables for my wife's 02 silverado last week and I used your method of using a closed end wrench 13mm to get the clip out of the frame mounts so much easier. Thanks for that. Oh and we are no longer in IL we are in MA so ya North East salt road winters, and ocean salt air are not kind to our vehicles.

Imperial Services craftsman has one too. It does both smaller clamps and bigger clamps. Some jobs have very little access, and these have saved me many many times. They are worth the investment.

I played with model cars and Technic Legos growing up. Smashing and rebuilding them helps build memory immensely, its why later on I could tear apart cars and remember how to reassemble them.
Wow, your assessment of my younger years is frighteningly accurate! Everyone says I shouldn't be using the cheap HF impacts but they do just as good as the expensive ones. I prefer air to them all but having no cords and limiting the compressor running for videos is nice. Thanks for watching!

Hi, what part of Jordan are you from? I have a friend who is from Anjara and I went with him when he went to visit and had a amazing time. I've traveled a lot and I don't think I've been anywhere where I felt so welcome. I was there a little over a month and my wife came for 10 days. We went to see Petra, the Dead See and Aquaba with her and a flat tire turned into a dinner with some complete strangers that were Bedouin's who now feel like family. They asked us to stay since it was late and we were their first American and Bulgarian guests.At first I felt guilty since they didn't have a lot of money..….. I could talk for hours about it since it was the highlight of our trip and we send them gifts every year. I include a call tag for DHL and they use it to send us gifts back. Our kids absolutely love it although it was tricky convincing them to use the prepaid mailing label.

I must admit I'm very impressed not only are you on course to finish the challenge but to carry on with a back injury which must have been received under fire in the garage for which you should be awarded the purple heart or a good back massage from Mrs Vehcor your choice. Having the boss clocking in for afternoon shift must have been a big help not only getting her hands dirty but telling you the best way to do the work right, I was less impressed with the Tape family, only one shows his face and soon lost the plot and was sent spinning, as for the other two well you would have thought that they would have stuck together. So Mr and Mrs Vehcor I'm looking forward to the next installment so keep the sun shining 🌞🌞🌞🌞.

@@oldpartsnrust In 21 years of working on those bread delivery trucks for flowers baking company and having to replace those emergency brake cables I always used a small screwdriver to push those clips in AND WORK THEM THRU THE FRAME NEVER ONCE THOUGHT ABOUT PUSHING A WRENCH DOWN OVER THEM AND SHOVE THEM THRU THE FRAME

If anyone wants to know about a particular vehicle the repairers and vehicle wreckers know the most as they are the ones who shake their heads at poor mechanical repairs and see all the defects, it happens everywhere, the dealers take the credit as they are the professionals in the customers eyes which is all BS to what i have witnessed first hand. great job and informative as always

Good to hear that remark about tightening the suspension bolts when it's with the wheels on the ground (and all weight on it), not only prevents wear but also doesn't mess up ride quality due to stiffer connections that transmit more vibrations.

I sold my 2000 Silverado with 300K on it only because the rockers where rusting. That is how much I hate rust! lol Good luck on yours, you are braver than I. lol
@@vehcor thanks, i got the truck for $1000 with 150k on it and it was my Dad's work truck adding in i can't afford to replace it. Thats why i am considering attempting it, then there is also the knowledge gained. My big plan is to restore a Model A.

I believe that the "skid plate" is not actually a skid plate made of plastic, but rather an aero / cooling component that keeps the air from across the radiator up and into the engine bay. I believe the same thing about the under the bumper plastic it probably also reduces wind noise that GM found when testing the body in the wind tunnel. I am not certain but based on GM's style on other vehicles it's an educated guess. PS I am always a user of freedom units. :)

I'm very lazy about pictures. I just keep things together, and generally if you take it apart, you remember how you did it, or at least I do. Its bad that I had a concussion when fixing my riding lawn mower and I am just following the clues I left myself by organizing the parts because I truly don't remember. I'm glad it was one of my simpler projects at the time.

Awesome footage as always. One thing, after 35 years wrenching in my career I can say from experience, tell your afternoon shift to remove the watch when working like this. A small bit of brake fluid under the watch will burn the skin and almost all fluids will eat away at the watch, and the vibration from impacts kill the electronics (Not sure about electric impacts as they kind of new) I killed so many things like this over the years and this is kind of expensive to destroy.
But how will she count her steps if she takes it off. lol

I think the plastic under body trays are splash guards, and the metal ones are bash plates.

Good helper there, sure she is learning a lot and more than most Body Repair Schools would ever teach! Hands on is always the best! The amount of rust in some of those spots you took covers off of on the damaged frame made me wonder how this SUV would have been in another 5-6 years in the same conditions. Kind of scary and appreciate living out here on the West Coast! :-)
She picks things up pretty fast. She will probably never use any of this for a career but having a little extra knowledge never hurt anyone. The red truck would be considered good condition in these parts. Most don't look this good. They have rust starting in the 1/4s, fenders, rockers and doors. The frames get rusty but are generally not a problem for 20 or so years. After that, some tend to fold in half. Lol

That is why I put the parts in very different places. lol I had the same problems and learned to compensate.
I have a 2003 Acura (133K) and a 2000 Ford F250 (199K) that have the original exhaust systems. Needless to say, I ain't movin' to Illinois. Geez Louise.
Our exhaust last just as long as long as the vehicles are driven on long trips. The rest of the body rots away though.

Showing which scene was the 'good' or 'damaged' frame was very helpful. We sometimes had a little trouble looking at the Dirtnali videos working out which vehicle we were looking at. It was easy to get confused, but not with this video.

Nice vid man. Did the same exact thing to my 01 tahoe but I replaced a lot of parts to for preventive maintenance and they were easy to get to. Didn’t have a lift tho so that made it fun

More US / UK differences - As someone else said we call it 'Imperial' you call it 'Freedom' sizes, your 'E Brake' is our handbrake (or parking brake) and another expression we have is ' Its a proper job' which means you did good!

We call them standard or imperial units. The "freedom units" is just me properly fulfilling my American stereotype. We also call it a parking brake as well as emergency brake. We probably never adopted the hand brake name since most of ours used to be operated by foot. The fourth pedal on some cars. The splash guard is missing on mine after my mother hit part of a broken bucket one day. We pulled the battered plastic piece off and never replaced it. Completely forgot till you showed it. This was maybe 5 years ago...
And has not caused any problems in 5 years! Yep, glorified splash shield/ bucket bumper! lol
You don't see many Daughter's working with their Dad's especially on dirty jobs like this so, your a lucky fella 👍

It is not such a problem that I need to waste even more time trying to solve it. It is bad enough that everyone freaks out when I put dirty parts on. Could you imagine the heads that would explode if I left the paint on the parts when I put it together? lol

I have re watched this video 4 times now and I keep forgetting to ask Scott my question. Scott, if you have no cameras going how long does it take you to remove the body like you are doing in this video? In real time. It is so awesome to see your daughter working right beside you. My daughter is the same way. If I am fixing something on her car, she watches me take the defective part off and she will try and install the new part. I just have to give her little hints and she usually gets it. She really makes me proud.
I wish you could have done a frame swap on my F150 that was recently fixed after an accident. You are even local to me.
The body shop took 2 months to swap a frame then I had to go back, fix wiring for rear lights(did not attach grounds), did not tighten main alternator cable so I had to fight them to reimburse me for alternator and main power wire as it arced and welded everything around itself. Multiple brackets were installed backwards, loose wiring, brackets, had to tighten many bolts and clamps.
These people call themselves professionals but if you mention they effed up and to own up to it, they get offended. They are not even part swappers but miserable individuals in the wrong field.
A lot of shops get in over their head with frame swaps. I worked my way up to them and did so many, they are just another job. Many shops avoid the big jobs and spend so much time chasing the gravy work, they are out of practice on the big jobs, leading them to stay away and the cycle continues. Rust sure is one thing I do not envy from the North. Houston can be hot and humid, I'll take it anyday over snow, salt and rust. I'm getting proficient watching you work on GM trucks. I have a 2003 Tahoe with 195,00 miles. Because I live in south Texas there is no rust anywhere. If I had a 2019 doner the only thing I'd want off it is new front seat covers, because 16 years of heating seats has destroyed the leather.
