- Pandora, the Witch of Vanity, reveals her powerful Authority and her status as the hidden antagonist responsible for much of Re:Zero's conflict. Here's my review of Re:Zero Season 2 (Part 2) Episode 18, AKA Re:Zero Episode 43.

Emilia's trial continues right where it left off, with Geuse preparing to fight Regulus. Pandora reveals herself, and Geuse absorbs the Sloth Factor as a last resort. Incompatible with the Sin, he fights through the pain as his body rejects it, and attempts to protect Emilia and Fortuna from Regulus. But even the Unseen Hand has no effect against Regulus Corneas' overpowered Authority of Greed. Regulus torments Geuse, who is now Betelgeuse, until Pandora uses her Authority of Vanity to warp reality so that Regulus was never present. Fortuna and Betelgeuse accept their fates, and fight Pandora until the end. Archi sacrifices his life to let Emilia escape the Black Serpent. She then makes her way to The Seal, where she finds the Witch of Vanity waiting for her.

It's quite rude to breathe another man's air. are you really so entitled that you think that all air is yours to breath?, it's like you are indirectly stating that I have a lesser priority than you when it comes to the distribution of air. Why are people so selfish?, can't they really stop thinking about themself for a second and think about other people's needs? I was standing here and you didn't wonder if that air you so blatantly declare as yours was mine, or someone elses. If you had maybe some consideration for me, maybe you would have asked if it was okay for you to breath that air. just simply taking the air for yourself it's a form of intrusion, you are preventing me from freely deciding if I want to breath that air, and I believe that's an infringement of my rights, and as such, can't be forgiven. I didn't want to resort to violence, but it wouldn't be proper of me to let this insult go unpunished. I can only take this infringement of my rights as an aggresion, and it's only fair to respond in kind.

I really enjoyed how they put the pacing in this episode, instead of covering the full sanctuary backstory halfway through emilias backstory like in the light novel they left it to be fully focused on in future episodes.

This whole episode kind of restructured the way I viewed the world of Re:Zero. It's like everything we've seen up to this point is all connected to this one chain of events presented here, and that the one pulling the strings behind it all is the witch loli. The only thing that could make this better is if we could actually see the OP for once but I guess I'll be waiting on that one for a while.

Finally somebody talking about the music, even if only in brief. The moment when Corneas breaks out of the giant crystal/ice/whatever (~9m48s) signals one of the most riveting music cues I've ever heard in anime, or indeed any medium. The talent on display to conjure that chord progression, a perfect mix of mobility, grandeur and desperation, cannot be understated. I'm torn on whether I want to hear it reused later (the series does this a lot) or saved exclusively for this special moment. In an ideal world, we'll hear it _reiterated_ later but not outright recycled.

Puck is an Artificial Spirit created by Echidna. Unless Echidna is really a Tsundere, and got Fortuna soul or something, and put it in a cat form just to make her be able to reconnect with Emilia.

She is one of the antagonist and it's really unsettling to watch how polite she is.
What I found terrifying about her was that she not only poofed away regulus and removed everything he did but also could kept one thing he did do which was make guese absorb the witch factor.

Dude, your reviews make me as hyped as when a new episode comes out, the narration and the editing skills are always on point, it rly makes it very enjoyable to watch after the weekly episode, its like getting that perfect dessert after the main dish! Keep up the good work, best re zero content out there without a doubt. (On a side note, not sure what your thoughts are on this but perhaps you should consider creating a discord for the community)
I watched Re:Zero when I was 13, right? It makes sense for me to cry over heartbreaking revelations within an anime in that age, right? We've all been through that phase.
That was 4 years ago. I'm 17. Times have changed and I've seen a lot more anime now. The only ones I've vividly cried over were Charlotte and Weathering With You, reasonable though, yeah? Those are meant to break people, but with some mercy of piecing them together again with a happy ending.
But, after all this time, 4 years. 4 fucking years.
I somehow actually stressed, shed tears, and begged, that nothing happens to Fortuna and Geuse. After so much wholesome, lovely experiences that I have seen last week, I have grown emotionally attached to this blissful peace that Baby Emilia is living in.
But to see it destroyed... the anxiety... as much as I hated Regulus, the fact that I'm afraid of him lashing out and hurting them just shivers my spine. Now, I can see why there's such a love-hate relationship with this story.
Boy I hope you survive the next episode.

yo I’m happy u brought up that adorable story with Roswaal, Beatrice, and Echidna. It made me like Roswaal a lot more and just like the other story of its kind with the Elior Forest family team, made me wish the characters in it could be as sweet and loving with each other as back then.

Pandora’s VA is amazing. Every VA in Re:Zero is. But I think she fits great, and is performing outstandingly. The way she said “maybe your eyes deceived you” was amazing, I don’t understand Japanese, but I could feel the passive aggressiveness, I could hear in her voice that “bare witness to my power” self pride Pandora was thinking. The moment of revelation was made all the more better by that one line executed perfectly.
I couldn't guess that Harime Nui's theme would fit Daphne so well. Good work!
I have a strong feeling that when Fortuna-same dies, she resurrects as Puck.
This explains why she calls Emilia "Lia" and how she promises that she will return and they will be together again.
This also explains the scene in the previous episode; why in their first encounter Puck said that he was looking for Emilia all the time.
This also explains Puck's fatherly figure against Emilia.

Theory (I don't read the LN or WN)
Pandora seems to "remove" the Reality, she change the fact that Regulus come to the forest.
So, imagine if she do the same with Subaru come to the "other world"
She can basically says "Subaru Natsuki never left his house" or something else.
That can be very interesting, for the development of Subaru, because this time change of world or not, will be his decision, and we can see the parents again, they can talk with their son before he leaves them.
(But I don't know how he can return to the "other world"...)
This situation can be just a part of an arc, maybe an arc near of the end.
(Sorry for my English, I'm French)
The way I interpret her ability is that she can change things in the current reality, but she is not able to change past events. For example she could say "Subaru Natsuki is at home with his parents" but she can't say "Subaru Natsuki never left his house". I don't think she's able to rewrite history itself, but when she died she was like "Pandora is standing behind Regulus Corneas" or something to bring herself back.
Possibly she is able to determine the future, as in she might have said "Pandora will stand behind Regulus Corneas in 30 seconds" because she could predict what was about to happen, given how volatile Regulus seems to be, and preemptively determined a future that would come to pass even if she didn't die. (obviously she didn't say any of that, atleast not with the viewers noticing)
That's just what I think though.
Edit: I thought about it and it might just be that she can freely determine character positions at any given time, like she just decided that Regulus was with his wives.
Additionally she might not be able to position characters in places she doesn't know, which is why she can't just teleport herself with the key to the seal because she doesn't possess it and she didn't exactly know where the seal was. It's also unlikely that she can determine character actions, so she can't say that Fortuna or Geuse hand her the key.

I rewatched the episode, the fact that Regulus disappearing undid all of his actions debunks my theory of her just determining character positions.
My best guess is that she manipulates the current reality by being able to undo a characters actions once she meets them to a certain extent, like putting Regulus back home and undoing everything he did on his way to the forest.
The more I think about it the more it makes my head hurt, I sure do hope that next week is gonna give us atleast some answers

When fortuna said goodbye to Emilia I was in tears. Seeing Emilia realize she was her mother was heartbreaking especially since she knew she was probably going to go help geuse to save her. 10/10 episode great video echidnut! Keep it up
