What On Earth Happened To Conor McGregor?

  • Conor McGregor looks like a completely different person now. Not only has he packed on a tonne of muscle but his head and hands appear to have grown considerably. His before and after pictures almost look like two different people, which raises the question - what the hell happened to him?

@@Kinsaiblunt See, I never get why people think that about Conor. He actually hasn't changed, he is still the same guy, same mentality. Conor likes easy fights, he likes it when he can play to his strengths (southpaw striking), but when that doesn't work, he loses his nerve.
And he always has. His fans were just too busy jacking off over his quick knockouts to recognise that he has no strength in depth. Nullify his southpaw advantage, and Conor becomes mediocre very quickly, because his kicking and grappling skills are very sub-par.

Man seeing how down bad Conor went, it makes me appreciate even more GSP for retiring when he was still on top and while always being 100% clean. He could've easily milk his position but he didn't and walked away while keeping his dignity! GSP is truly the best of the best. I don't know, people say this a lot, but I don't see much evidence for the guy ever losing his hunger. He just came up against opponents who were better suited to deal with his style. Other guys rounded their games out more. Khabib would have wrecked any version of McGregor. In fact I thought Conor looked incredibly sharp at the start of that fight as it was. The guy was ready and he was hungry. His style was just an easy target for wrestlers.
And Poirier at lightweight is a different beast. He's incredibly tough, close or as good at striking, and his cardio is better than Conor's, so it only makes sense that those fights went the way they did.
Conor was just never going to be able to dominate the lightweight division. It wasn't fame that ruined him. It was his opponents.

I think the change in his personality is even more dramatic than the change in his physical appearance. I became a fan of Conor around the time of the Max Holloway fight and you'd be hard pressed to find any interview with Conor between 2013 and 2017 that I haven't seen multiple times. He was very funny, had a cheeky charm about him and often dropped pearls of wisdom in relation to the 'law of attraction" philosophy. The Conor of today just seems like a completely different person. He's so much darker and bitter. His interviews these days make me feel like I'm in an aggressive sales pitch for whatever product he's pushing. All the humour, charm and pearls of wisdom have gone. I think Chael summed it up best when he said Conor has turned into a "rich little weirdo".

The Khabib fight was really the turning point for McGregor. Even before that he was still falling off, but was still taken seriously as a belt contender. Khabib mauled him in a way he'd never felt before, and outclassed him in terms of technique and in strength. Khabib made him feel weak and made him look like a poser - everyone thought he was one of the greatest fighters of all time until Khabib made him look like an amateur, and that seriously harmed his ego. McGregor still hasn't gotten over that loss, because it wasn't just a loss, it was Khabib putting him in his place for trash talking his father, his country and his religion. McGregor lived in a fake world before that, where he could say whatever he wanted about anyone and get away with it because he could just brush it off as "promoting the fight". Khabib humbled him pretty harshly, but McGregor lacks the character to learn that lesson.
So, he got into PEDs and started trying to make himself bigger and stronger to compensate for the persistent feelings of weakness and inadequacy that Khabib put into him. The problem is that the those drugs only temporarily turn you into a physical monster, and while you enjoy those short term benefits they work to permanently destroy the integrity of your bones and organs to the point where you can never fully recover. I'd say it's sad to see, but honestly, McGregor deserves this fate.

Mcgregor removed the condyle from its orbit, because he was obsessed with his body posture and saw that moving the jaw worked. What he didn't know is what happens next. He threw his body and his career on the ground, in addition to suffering from all the symptoms. I saw him use a catalyst for the jaw, so this must have fixed in the new position, hence his face swelled up like a potato. He would have had to wait for the natural readjustment for total body symmetry, but I don't know if that would have happened in his case.

As I told friends, with Conor McGregor, we are witnessing what Mike Tyson went through when he suddenly became rich and he had nobody around him, who he respected well enough, who could calm Mike down, and we witness this live. When I look at Khabib, when I look at Dustin, Gaethji, they are all surrounded by people whom they themselves respect, I just dont see the same concerning McGregor. The trainers and everybody in his camp, simply seem to jump, whenever Conor demands them to and it is sad.
Just think of Dennis Rodman who was a wildcard in the NBA until he ended up in Chicago with MJ and Phil Jackson, two extreme people of authority and it took them to keep Rodman under control, es good as they could and around McGregor, there is neither a Michael Jordan nor a Phil Jackson, he has his Coach but that dude simply seems useless. A coach with authority would tell his fighter, to sit the fukc still and not party and the fighter would listen like a trained pitbull.

Compare it with a family, where the parents are doctors and the child becomes one too, with a lower income class family, where the first child in their whole family' history becomes a doctor, no the latter is basically alone, nobody can tell him how to behave, but with Jones, he comes from a family of athletes, he knows he is great, he has greatness around himself, Conor lives mostly in Europe, which is simply a shit continent for people who want to become athletes.
I played basketball, nobody gave a sh1t about our team, there was no cheerleading , there is no culture which loves its athletes.

On that note I can’t imagine what it must be like to be as big a star and as narcissistic as he is and having that aspect of my identity taken away. He’s going through what anyone would go through or can conceive of X100 - the big stage, all the pressure, all the money, a commitment to a showman’s lifestyle which inevitably seeps into your soul and as we are reminded throughout history we must often fall victim to the most classical of hubris even as we yell into the air “but not me, it won’t be me!” - sad to see someone pivot down the road of squandering gifts that was given so many.
