Why would it be a bad thing if Britain became warmer and drier than it currently is?

- New predictions suggest that London might, in 60 years or so, be as warm as the south of France. This is described as a ‘terrifying’ prospect, but most of us are unable to see why it should be.

They claimed this nonsense back in the late 1980's saying Britain would have a climate like the south of France by the year 2000. Strange that in the 1970's they said that we would be in a new Ice Age by the year 2000. Wish they would make their tiny minds up.
Who made this claim and where?
@@user-ht7jz2bh6e It was all over the news if you are old enough to remember.
@@user-ht7jz2bh6e Time magazine 24th June 1974 quoting a number of meteorologists and atmospheric scientists (among them:
climatologist George J. Kukla of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory and his wife Helena,
University of Wisconsin's Reid A. Bryson and other climatologists,
Donald Oilman, chief of the National Weather Service's long-range-prediction group,
University of Toronto Climatologist Kenneth Hare, a former president of the Royal Meteorological Society).
"when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age. Telltale signs are everywhere -from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest.Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F...............................
When Climatologist George J. Kukla of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory and his wife Helena analyzed satellite weather data for the Northern Hemisphere, they found that the area of the ice and snow cover had suddenly increased by 12% in 1971 and the increase has persisted ever since. Areas of Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic, for example, were once totally free of any snow in summer; now they are covered year round........................
Man, too, may be somewhat responsible for the cooling trend. The University of Wisconsin's Reid A. Bryson and other climatologists suggest that dust and other particles released into the atmosphere as a result of farming and fuel burning may be blocking more and more sunlight from reaching and heating the surface of the earth..............................
Whatever the cause of the cooling trend, its effects could be extremely serious, if not catastrophic. Scientists figure that only a 1% decrease in the amount of sunlight hitting the earth's surface could tip the climatic balance, and cool the planet enough to send it sliding down the road to another ice age within only a few hundred years."
I'm 71 and remember it being in the papers and on the TV, and, as usual, the climate scientists needed massive grants in order to study it all and save the planet. My Grandad remembered that in 1922 the story being carried (and this was confirmed by Snopes fact checking) said " The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway.
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds."
So, a hundred years ago they wanted loads of money to investigate global warming, 50 years later they wanted loads of money to investigate global cooling, 50 years later (now) they want loads of money to investigate global warming again, so I'm guessing that in 50 years time they will want loads of money to investigate global cooling again.

I am currently on my annual holiday down on the South Coast at a resort I have visited often since the late nineteen seventies. Usually the weather has been good when I visit in summer but at the moment it’s been very changeable with sunny days and wet days and some in between or a bit of both. But we all commented that we had once had a similar experience at the same resort back in the nineteen eighties. So in summary the weather and climate isn’t much different in the South of England than it was forty years ago.
One thing that has definitely changed over the last forty years though is the increased population in the country and the extra housing that has been built all over Green fields or Green belt land (or even grey belt as the Labour Party would have it). It’s increasing population (immigration) which is really impacting the country we live in far more quickly and effectively than any change to climate or weather patterns.

And if the forest was no longer there after a fire it would give them a far greater chance of obtaining said permission. Unlikely. The issue here is climate and not weather.
There is a television show from 1978 called "In Search Of" hosted by Leonard Nimoy that featured an episode of "experts" warning about the coming ice age. When it became apparent that the ice age wouldn't arrive, the "experts" then predicted that children wouldn't know what snow was by the year 2000 due to anthropogenic global warming. 2000 happened to be the year that there was unprecedented worldwide snowfall even in Egypt. There are just too many variables such as solar activity, volcanic eruptions and Milankovitch Cycles for anyone, expert or not, to make accurate long term climate predictions.
Those placing the cause of "climate change" solely on human activity are either doing it for political agenda or personal gain.
In the UK people avoid talking about politics and religion for fear of upsetting relatives and losing friends. Instead we talked about the wealth. Not anymore. Mr.Webb, the statements regarding “record “ breaking temperatures and hurricanes, floods, droughts, even Polar Bear deaths are all entirely dependent on people’s ignorance regarding historical records . Anyone interested enough to do a minimum of research regarding the actual facts would find the phrase “Nothimg new under the Sun “ , pretty much could be applied to each and every claim!
This is of course quite true, but then who actually bothers to check up on such things!
@@HistoryDebunkedsimonwebb some of us do Webby and see through the gaslighting from the right wing types like you and George, why don't you mention hurricane Beryl?
@@GreggFellows Ahahahaha.....oh no...a hurricane 😮 that's the climate emergency debate settled then🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@TheGoat-63527 Do you have anything intelligent to say other than attacking those who show Simon Webb to be nothing but an ignorant liar?
@@GreggFellows I just wrote something intelligent but given that fact it went straight over your head 😉You're a proven liar, Thick Gregg Clot 😂 Now run along and get ready to watch that football you said you never watch anymore 🤣
Here in Ireland it's just been declared, that it was the coldest June in 15 years! I've had the heating on constantly, so where the fek is this global warming bollox!!
You'd better take in lodgers to pay for your gas bill, i know the feeling.
Cloud seeding is working fine. Just look up. Something is going on.
No no no
Those square and zig zag clouds are just “ new types of cloud “ 😂😂😂
Yep they really do think we are idiots but the programming of the kids over years appears to be working .
Us Gen X rebels can see and smell the BS but the kids today have no clue
This weather is far from normal
@@johnnagle7702 I think the phrase you are looking for is “ far from natural “
Just happened to look out at 4.30 am the other morning. The sky was pink with trails going all over the Eastern sky. It looked like spaghetti junction.
I guess they're starting earlier now so as beat the 9.00 am observers, with cameras at the ready. Glad I took a picture.
@lordlucan7655 is there a difference my lord where have you been hiding ?
CON VID mark 2 incoming.....
Makes a lot of people a lot of money.
The MET Office paint the pictures of the Earth orange and red, gas-lighting us into thinking it is burning. But if you look at actual photos of the Earth from satellites, it is actually greening, and the green areas spreading into what was once deserts. The extra CO2 is doing its job as plant food.
Im literally looking outside now, in July, at another piss poor rainy day! When its raining, its climate change, when we get ONE WEEK of hot weather, its climate change and we must conserve water. Because "our water stocks WERE brimming but we are now 15 percent lower"
Quotation marks because i truly heard that one summer recently!
So they were 100 percent, and we lost a devastating 15 percent. In other words, we have 85 percent left?! EIGHTY FIVE PERCENT! Panic stations! Pray we never see the sun again!
I find the Meteorological Office, with their Multi Million pound supercomputer, and highly paid meteorological 'experts', struggle to predict local weather, a few days in advance, with any accuracy.
Wasn’t there a another organisation with highly paid experts relying on their supercomputers telling us all something recently?
The Met Office has asked that all UK citizens during the Summer, ensure that their Sun block is not affected by long and persistent periods of rain. In addition they ask that citizens check that their Sun tan lotion still performs in temperatures below 10 deg C. This Global warming statement has been checked by BBC Verify.
The globe is 20 % greener than 20 years ago and the ice sheets are growing, this they don’t tell you
Chem trails any one ????
The media etc should report the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth😱😱
They’re battling ‘wildfires’ as opposed to the even-tempered ones!
''Believe what we tell you, not your eyes.''
Cold wet springs and wet summers are a blessing because without them we would combust from the "global boiling." Tipping point, ice melting, polar bears, bs, bs, bs and more bs.
And yet we have zero signs of any such change happening. And must still fly off to the South of France for our holliers.
Tell that to the people's whose houses have been swept away.
Well let me put it this way. Nothing grows either under ice or without CO2. Therefore, we need heat, water and CO2 to promote growth in fertile land. It appears we have more than enough water, we’re told temperatures are rising and therefore far less chance of ice, plus apparently CO2 is increasing slightly, although it is and always has been a trace gas and is currently around 0.042% of overall atmospheric gas.
I remember being in Athens 40 years ago and I was in the 40's.
Nothing new.
Why would it be bad if Britain had a Climate instead of Weather? Simply because half of the conversation within Britain would cease to exist!
As many solar panels and EVs as you like 👍
It was fine for my ancestors and its fine for me ... just get rid of all the hangers on!!
I can't even find 'Climate: The Movie' now. It's been throttled by YT because it's by scientists and debunks the 'emergency'.
Imagine all the land that would be habitable if the earth warmed up. Northern US thru Canada, Greenland and the poles, Russia, northern Europe. Huge amounts of land...
Brrrrr 🥶 We had our two days of global warming this 'summer'....back to winter now 😂
28c here now, still in my shorts 🤣🤣
@@GreggFellows Not 30c then 🤣 Seems you and the Met Office are both lying then 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@GreggFellows you in playa del ingles, jumbo centre by any chance?
Bright yellow cap sleeved shirt, green shorts and pink socks?
@@TheGoat-63527 that is why i said now, Met said it hit 30c here today...... poor comprehension skillz
@@scepticAL4322 not me chap, reminds me of someone i saw in Morro Jable on Fuerteventura though a few years back
This summer has been bloody freezing LOL !
Not that it helps anything but funnily enough, down here in the south of France it's the coldest wettest year I've ever seen.
Right now in Cornwall it is cold and damp, and I have my central heating on because the weather is so bad down here.
Just for you Simon. "Turned out nice again".
The weather experts can't get tomorrow's forecast right. I remember in the late 70s early 80s it was predicted that The English south coast upto and including London would be lost to the sea and would have to move north and into Scotland.
A bit of 70s fear mongering 😂
This pissing constant rain is really killing my plans, haven't even finished my spring cleaning yet alone summer tasks. Need some bloody dry weather for a while, garden is a swamp.
We currently have a log fire burning and are all wearing fleeces in July. 😂
Oh,
you are wearing the
"Just Stop Oil" attire??
