    Nice looking plane ! If I may share some informations . A Japanese plane iron is wedge shaped(tapers in thickness), which is what holds the blade in place(wedged in the groove), and also has a scooped back(Urasuki) to make flattening the back easier.
    As for the body, the sole is not flat the entire length , but it's scooped out so that there're really only two or three sections touching the wood when planing, to reduce friction and make the feel of the cut dramatically lighter .

    Boas, gosto de o ver a trabalhar nas novas instalações :) com respeito a essa plaina, ficou bem bonita. Já construí umas 4 e com sucesso. só notei da sua parte quando estava a raspar a base para fazer os côncavos este precedimento deve ser feito com os ferro metido mas recolhido como se fosse defenitivo. A razão pela qual digo isto faz toda a diferença pois a tenção causada pelos ferros já causa uma curvatura na base da plaina. Acredite que faz toda a diferença, não deixando assim a plaina dançar tanto quando corre sobre a madeira. Excelente trabalho.

    Many Japanese speakers commenting that it's not proper - most complain that yours is made of glued three-piece wood and not out of a single piece. The second common point being the blade of yours is a flat piece of solid metal. The Japanese blade is laminated and very slightly concave on the back.

    • @FromTheWood
      @FromTheWood  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, I know that. Even if it was made according to all Japanese methods, it would still not be a Japanese planer. It would always be a Portuguese planer !!
      I dont care. It works and the blade is optimal. It was a friend of mine, a blacksmith, who made them.

    • @Englishman999
      @Englishman999 Před 2 lety

      @@FromTheWood Then if you know all this, why call it a Kanna?? It's clearly not, it's a plane made (loosely) in the style of a Kanna. You even call it a Japanese plane in the title. It's a poor imitation, nothing more...

    Hi, really nice job. Just a couple of consideration. In my opinion, the mouth on the sole is a little bit too large, so it doesn't work too smooth on the wood... 2nd, the chip breaker is too thick... But as already said, these are only my opinions. Very good job

    It is very sad to see this type of videos that damage the reputation of Japanese carpentry because that you made has nothing to do with a true kanna (Japanese plane)
    Es muy triste ver este tipo de videos que perjudican la reputación de la carpintería japonesa porque lo que hiciste no tiene nada que ver con un kanna (cepillo japonés)

    • @FromTheWood
      @FromTheWood  Před 5 lety

      Estaria muito mal a carpintaria japonesa se ficasse com a sua reputação prejudicada pelo facto de eu ter feito uma plaina seguindo o modelo de uma plaina japonesa, isto sem falar que eu tenho todo o direito de fazer aquilo que muito bem entendo, desde que não haja direitos de autor reservados, sem ter de dar satisfações a ninguém.

      Carpintería de Japón Shokunin. Sashimono. Kumiko.
      It does nothing to the reputation of Japanese kanna for people to show their western interpretations of the design. It’s obvious to everyone that it’s not a fully traditional kanna.
