She seems to get more appreciation in Europe. I'm sure she would in South Africa too. I wonder if she ever played there. She is wonderful, her songs are poetry that stir deep emotions and thought. This song could have been written for me, I'm sure many others have also felt that connection.
The record companies went more and more for the mediocre singer dressed in almost nothing. Videos of that nature from tramps like Rihanna, Miley and others are what seem to sell with the vacant minded sheep of today. The only good thing that happened is at least now with youtube and the internet one doesn't need a record exec to be heard and noticed by the public.

When I look at Tracy and listen to her sing, there is harmony in what she shows, sings and stirs up all at once... It is beautiful beyond words and yet it is NOT beyond recognition because she puts in to words the splendor, beauty, sadness and hope of humanity that any man woman or child with even just a sliver of soul... can deeply and completely relate to.
And for this, (among MANY other things) I choose Tracy Chapman over any and all of those artists the record labels are pimpin'...
It's not about being appreciated by a multitude of pretenders but being honestly appreciated and loved by even a handful of fans. See, I think she is well appreciated Michelle Elder, we truly love her music and that's enough, she always have a meal on her table everyday. I love you all
