Heard you talk about the chrome wear, that’s what I always check first, but a key note is Zippo only did chrome plated lighters until 1982.
Any Vietnam Zippo that is full brass plated is fake.
I just spent like 15-20 minutes on eBay looking at “Vietnam” zippos and there is soooooo many fakes for sale.
oh yes :) and its becasue people buy them...
And the ones not fake are you certain they were in the war?
Very interesting and educational video Jeff, as all of yours tend to be. Not a collector of Zippo’s but who knows. Maybe someday. Hope you have an amazing weekend.
I'll never be into Vietnam zippos but I could listen to you nerd out about anything Jeff, love all the videos
Morning Jeff, thanks for the video brother
Great video very informative thanks
I found a 1968 zippo in an antique store with "LENNY" inscribed and its real! :O awesome! The owner gave it to me free too! It's in rought shape though lol
It was in an abandoned glass jar of lighter parts lol!
A very nice coverage of these lighters....thanks!😊 Do you plan to refurbish your broken lighter?
Thanks for the great vid. I've been convinced for years that my Zippo was probably fake, as it was too shiny in comparison to many of the pictures you see (including in the book, which I also have), and the engraving very shallow and clean. But in fact it's pretty identical-looking to yours both in wear and detail. I'm now pretty convinced it's a 1969 original, especially as the wear on the lighter is consistent with the wear on the engraving itself. As you say, knowing if it was used in service is the big remaining unknown... Thanks again 🙏
not a collector but am looking for one to give to my dad .. He served 69-71 in Vietnam ... thank you so much for this video
Great video. Thanks
really informative video !
Genial, muchas gracias por el vídeo.
Estoy detrás de un zippo vietnam y su información es genial.
Un saludo desde España.
Thanks for advertising the book, wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for you dude! LoL I just bought it as I've always been interested in these iconic of iconic Zippos. I've never bought one online as there are indeed soooooo many fakes out there, more fakes than real items its not worth risking the investment. I'll settle for the book! Good deal on eBay for it and I know it won't be a fake!
This was more helpful than you could imagine.I just cancelled a bid on a lighter that is nearly identical to the one you showed. You saved me 100+ dollars sir.Im very grateful.Keep up the good work 👍
I’m not in Vietnam Zippos but this video is really great for checking fake Zippos. Many thanks. :)
Great video. I purchased a Nam Zippo, I wish I could share a photo of it here, but I can't. On one side it is nicely engraved Strategic Air Command on a banner, on top of banner it has hand holding two lightning bolts and what looks like a small stock of wheat. It's dated 1964.
Thanks for this very interesting and informative video! I just picked one up in a charity/thrift/antique store in Belgium (of all places) and it totally checks out. Seems 100% legit to me. I'm so thrilled! It was being sold as a regular lighter amongst other worthless lighters and (knockoff) zippo's.
They obviously didn't know what it was! It's from Quang Tri 68-69 and it has some very interesting engravings.
Is there any way I can mail you some pictures for some of further info? If that's alright. Thanks in advance!
Nice video, I have a 1965 Zippo in perfect condition, paid $21.19, a bargain
Thanks for this interesting video! Now I'm glad to know that mine I bought 20yrs ago is real!
Cool video. It seems most if not all Vietnam Zippo restoration videos in youtube are done to fake ones.
Jeff, I bought 2 old zippos from the 60s I thought they were real but one has the z of zippo on hinge side the other on the open side does that mean its fake? not claiming their war lighters just of that era. thanks for the vids.
I was in Cambodia around 20 years ago. The markets in Phnom Penh were full of them at around $10. Of course, I knew they were fake, but they were cool, and I bought a bunnch. Thanks for the presentation.
I had a question that I was hoping could get answered in this comment section. I’ve got a 1964 butane lighter that was made for the olympics that year in Tokyo. I bought it from a antique shop recently. It’s got a good flint wheel on it so it still sparks but I can’t get it to light. Help?
Never getting tired of Zippos. From then & till now.
Its worth noting regular brushed chrome finishes were hugely circulated. HP chrome, maybe some? Regardless how beat up, some of them surfaces stays
Hello cutlery, I'm currently living in Vietnam. Would it be worth my time and money to stock up on these lighters and sell them when I get back to the US?
Hay và thông tin bổ ích.
I am looking to buy an original Vietnam Zippo lighter. But I am afraid I'm picking up some fake ones. Have the money to buy a real good one but not the money to buy a bunch of fake ones to try to find a real one. Keep up the good work always enjoy the videos
🔥i always love the zippo videos!🔥
Do genuine vietnam zippos have solid attachments on it of military unit? Thanks
Good to know!
I’d love to go down this route hunting for Vietnam Zippos but I’d be going down a deep dark soggy rabbit hole because as you said, to actually find a legit one would be lucky. However, if i knowingly came across a legit zippo forged as a Vietnamese one I would definitely buy it purely because most of them I’ve seen online look cool! As long as I knew before hand it was a fake.
Got a real old no markings case and incert are larger that reg. Zippos. Set in they returned and set an another one. How do i date
I’m not a collector of Zippos but I like them. I like cool old stuff in general. I’d like to run across an old one.
Hello there. Thanks for this video! A friend brought me a zippo back from Vietnam 30 plus years ago. The hinge is broken. So need to sort that. I am sure the lower part of the case is 1968, and the insert is also legit from the period. Not sure about the markings though. Could i send you pics to take a look? I sent it to zippo years ago asking them to repair it, but they sent it back saying someone had already tried to repair it and instead sent me a new insert… Cheers
My brother had a belt buckle his godfather gave him that was from Vietnam when he served in that war. My brother lost it when he went to jail. They gave him back all his stuff but kept his belt buckle! I always remember it because I was there when my cousin gave it to him when he got back from Vietnam in 1977 the family was happy when he got back although I was a young kid and didn't really know to much about that war until year's later what affect it took on everyone. Just like anything your living history and you don't think about it at the moment until year's later your like yeah I remember living through that era? Late 60s 70s 80s 90s 20s
I love your tattoo very muchI have my dad's Vietnam zippo, and I was curious what it'd be worth now, and what year was this video made at the time you made it?
It was supposed to say I loved your tutorial. Lol
Hey I have 3 zippos of my dad's he past away a year ago and these were in the Vietnam war between 1968-1969...he actually used these I was wondering if they were worth anything please reach out to me...ty god bless
Thanks for the info, I was able to confirm that my Vietnam 68-69 Zippo is real. 👍
Funny enough from around 1980 to 2011 it said made in zippo USA on authentic ones, flint wheels being horizontal was also a zippo trait prior to I believe 1958
Hi I live in Singapore.
One question i need your advice.
Are the brass fake vietnam zippos older than the chrome ones?
Based on your guidelines I can identify the chrome ones. But it appears there are very few fake brass ones.
I hv 2 fakes. Both brass.just curious...
Thanks
brass finish only went into production after the vietnam war (1982)
I love using Zippos would love to get a nice one.
I know my Zippo is real because I bought mine and had it engraved while I was there. A few years ago the lid became so loose it wouldn't stay closed. I sent it to Zippo and the fixed, including new innards. They did it for free along with free shipping back to me.
My Zippo from Vietnam is plain I never had anything put on it. I still have it and the knife I had and was also my fathers knife from WW2 I may have shown it to you when you were here.
I would prefer a good condition Vietnam era KBAR to a Zippo...the Zippo would be stoopid cool, my uncle was in the USAF in Nam. But they're way too easy to fake, and using a Zippfakeo supposedly from Vietnam ? IDK...It would just "feel" wrong. Kinda like using a Z hunter😂...I have a real 1966 Zippo but its chromed, it was a store advertising freebee or whatever and never was in the war...
I have 3 different zippos spotwelds are all in slightly different positions, hinges all have 2 at bottom. One says 1932 zippo1984, other says I zippo v111 (September 1992) and the other k zippo 18.
Nowhere in the zippo dating does it say 1932 zippo 1984. 1984 should be \\\ Zippo \\\ have I got a fake? Thanks. 👍
“Made in zippo USA” 😂😂😂
I'm still salty that I sent in my broken engraved zippo that was from my birth year and instead of fixing it zippo just sent me a new one... all it needed was a new pin and for the lid to be re-welded to the hinge.
Did you state that it had sentimental value?
Damn that sucks man
Did you send just the case are the insert as well?
@@ZippoGuy if memory is correct they asked for only the case because of the fuel/fire risk
You could call them and ask for it back.
So what is the deal with your vintage chrome zippo there ?
Fake markings added , or just not the interesting desirable kind of markings?
One motto I remember from a movie maybe _Catch-22_ " Screw 'em all but six, and save 'em for pallbearers!"
I find it funny, no body wanted to go now all of a sudden everybody wants what really was there. I remember being in San Francisco on shore leave and the names they called me were horrible.
Can i ask what peoples attitudes towards you were? I learned that americans were anti war in that period but i never realised they would be anti soldier.
@@jameseden9380 You have to remember this during the Vietnam War and San Franscans , the looks and the comments just walking down the street.
@@morganweast4228 were they blaming you for going to fight? Did you chose to serve? How did it make you feel when poeple had that attitude? sorry for questions im very interested. Thank you
@James Eden no they weren't blaming us thinking back it was more of let's say Gang Mentality, yes I enlisted and at the time angry and passed off. Never ashamed never.
@@morganweast4228 thanks for your answer, much respect from the UK.
Busted out laughing at "Made in Zippo USA"
Insert from 1953 - 1967= Made in ZIPPO USA
Insert 1967-2022 = Made in USA ZIPPO
I want to buy a zippo about the Vietnam war, what should I do?
I have a vietnam zippo. Mine doesn't have company markings or slogans, it just has the guys name engraved. Now this video makes me question its authenticity. I mean it looks and feels like a genuine 67 zippo, the shape is right the hinge is right the stamp is right and even the amount of grime is right to show its been used alot. I mean is it possible that the soldier just had his name engraved and nothing else. The biggest thing is I bought it from a guy who's been on ebay since 2019, sold over 1.1k items 100% positive but I only paid 24. Now in the item name it had a question mark so like he wasn't sure it was from vietnam.
can i send you some zippo pics from my uncle's vietnam zippo? BTW, your Patreon link is dead. Let me know. -Ray
Insert from 1953 - 1967 = Made in ZIPPO USA
Insert 1967-2022 = Made in USA ZIPPO
I have a 1973 that says made in zippo USA that is legit, confused the shit out of me for the longest.
👍
Nice😅
I returned a Vietnam zippo to it's original owner a few years ago after my mom died, it had belonged to her ex boyfriend. The Bushwhacker
i could tell by weight
Can you do a house tour for members, or an updated kitchen tour
maybe in the future if I get more members, I have a LOT planned for members but right now there arent many at all so if the numbers bump up Ill share all my ideas :)
@@cutlerylover hard to pay $17 can a month for no content lol
Lot of work in a phony zippo 😅
Starts at 8:26.
i bought a fake ._. , hope i can get my money back
Zippo themself sold loads of ,,Vietnam" Zippo's like 20 years ago, the story was they bought them by the shit load on local Vietnam markets refurbished them and sold them worldwide, I never knew they were legit or not., And should older Zippo's not have a hollow flint wheel rivet? of course refurbished ones would not have them.
Ist funny you would think you can trust the company themselves but they are ran by people and people makes mistakes too, haha BUT if you had documentation it was sold by Zippo thats "proof" enough for me...as a collector...
I love zippos :)
#first
No one cares bro
dont worry i care
@@mater114 thank you.
whoa, dude had to do audible math to determine the lighter's age from 2022 to 1972.
also, edit much? this video could have been half as long -- so much rambling and repetition.
thanks though -- my two nam zippos are definitely fake!
Great info, thanks - I have a questions sir - Pat 2517191 (c1950 - c1957) with four lines (1966) - all markings appear legit - would that make sense to you?
Something to think about with items that are date coded like this is that they'll often stick to 1 date code.
Especially if they made a stamp to use.
The currently found Buck 110 and 112 knockoffs and their automatic counterparts all have a 2013 date code.
Chances are if somebody takes the time to replicate a zippo stamp instead of having to hand do the date code, they'll likely just use it as long as possible.
