That's simple plastic material why ZIPPO a company is not providing ... Hope so it's a business for Zippo fluid business to run and make a hole to customers
I've seen a video on youtube, basically he just wrapped the insert with a teflon tape, the one used for plumbing. does it work?
Save your used up Bic/other lighters, most of the flints work in Zippo lighters
Hey, so I love your sandwich bag trick. It gets quite hot here in India, so my zippo that normally lasts about two days max with fuel now lasts a whole week and maybe more sometimes, which is crazy. I just wanted to add that I have found using cello tape works as well plus it has a much better seal due to the adhesive. For example the sandwich bag might move around while you're inserting the insert back in but using a wide cello tape cut to the length of the bottom of the insert works wonders for me. Anyway, thanks for your great videos, you're the reason why I am now a Zippo guy for life!
Haha that’s awesome !! What a great comment. I’m glad I was able to turn u into a classy guy now lol. Yes the tape works great on my old channel a lot of people comment that. I havent tried it yet. Working on a do it yourself rubber gasket right now. Do u take the felt completely out now like I mention in this video ?? Makes room for more fluid. Also glad it is lasting u that much longer in India ! Very hot and hard to keep fluid. Bottles must last u much longer now
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Thanks! Haha, yes. Also learnt a few tricks from you too. The Operator is my favorite. I love juggling it all the time, it has become almost second nature now. I haven't tried taking the felt out yet, sounds like a great idea. Although I must say, putting the wick between fluffed up cotton pads is a fucking revolutionary idea, and that's the first thing I am going to do. And yeah, bottles thankfully last much longer now. Also, could you please make a video on the zippo trick you do in your intros. It looks too sick!
@@anumey1 that’s frigging awesome. Yes this packing technique is far superior to any zippo packing I’ve seen or tested. Juggling a zippo is so much fun. I’m actually working on a big zippo trick video. Should be out in the next few weeks.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Awesome! Can't wait!
@@anumey1 what's the actual use of the cello tape? Is that the office tape? Btw, why do you still need a tape when you are using those china rubber bottom seals ? Rubber seal Shrank ?
I bought an “antique” brass style zippo, back in 2019. Ran fine got fluid but never felt like it lasted as long as it should. Threw it my drawer when the flint was no good. Thanks to your videos I repacked the cotton that was compressed badly, rearranged the wick and have spare flints. Now with the sandwich bag it seems like the flames burns a bit more smooth and it doesn’t smell strongly like fluid is leaking out. Thank you.
No problem ! Glad to turn u back on to zippo. Yeah with these tricks really makes the experience that much more reliable
Hey Mike,
I've been using your Cotton Bacon and sandwich bag techniques. They work great and got me thinking. I figured out what I think is a slight improvement. I've been cutting the fingers off of nitrile gloves about an inch down from the tip. It stretches over the base of the insert and stays put better than the sandwich bag for me. I can even get two or three refills without damaging the "gasket". Fast, easy, inexpensive. Give it a try in one of your next vids. I think you and your fans will dig it.
Hey sonic ! Yeah that’s a great technique. On my original sandwich bag trick video on my main channel. A few people actually commented that years ago also had good results just like u. Thanks for sharing buds !
Haha and here I was thinking I'd invented something new. I guess I'll cancel that patent application lol.
@@Sonic_Ox lmao hahahaha usually when a good idea is born it is born across the world.
Thats a good idea👍
I've been doing this for year's I guess great minds think alike!😂👍
I love this video. It changed everything about my zippo. Before, it wouldn't hold fuel for more than three days. After doing all of these tricks, it is now over a month half filled and still is holding fuel. Thank you for helping me love my zippo again!
Glad to be apart of it !!!!
Man, I hate that I keep finding videos that are up-to-date and actually have better results than the previous. Now I'm gonna have to wait for my fluid to evaporate without wasting it LMAO
Hahaha that’s how it goes. Always something newer and better around the corner
Excellent. Used to refill every 4-5 days and it's been over a week, lights first time every time. Im not even using a zippo, its a star lighter.
Lol nice ! Yeah any petrol flip top this will work for
Great video for the beginner. I also didn't say thank you on the live stream for plugging my channel. Very cool of you to do that. I am sharing this one for some newbies out there.
No problem terry ! Thanks man. Sharing these videos really helps.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors always glad to support. You have a lot of cool knowledge to pass on to future Zippo people.
@@terrytravelstheuniverse1967 thanks man appreciate. I try to share as much as I can.
Absolutely awesome tips. Thank you!
No problem Tom !
This video is DEFINITELY going to my "Favorite & Very Useful Videos" Playlist, Thank you from Germany Brother!!!🇩🇪🇺🇸💪!!! SUBBED!
Thanks ! U will be using your zippo at full efficiency now. Love from 🇨🇦. I have lots of other useful videos too.
Dude I landed on your video during some late night CZcams, and damned if I didn’t get my old Zippo going. Turns out I only had about an inch of wick left haha! Got a new wick, packed it like you showed and it’s working great.
Welcome back to the dark side Richard !
Thank you for these good advices to guide a beginner into this classic game.
No problem buds.
That is brilliant! I dont smoke or anything but I've always liked the sound that a zippo made when opened. I do tend to keep them filled with fluid but it would always disappear lol but I think this will seriously help in fluid retention
Or just get a butane insert for it. Only 16$
This actually helped a lot, thanks!
No problem buds ! Need anything else let me know
Great idea! Another helpful tip is to put a ranger band around the outside lid border.
I make a wide band from old bicycle innertube works great being doing this for man years
this video is quality usefulness at the peak of the engineering efficiency curve. you earned a like and my subscription for this one.
Thanks !! I appreciate that. I can tell by your comment your gonna try this. So let me say now. Pack it loose near the the chimney or u will choke your wick
So glad i found your video i have many zippos i use and ive been going thru fluid like crazy i knew there had to be a video on having fluid last longer so now i will grab the ones i like the best and begin the task of refilling. thanks for video.
No problem lorrain ! Have any questions just ask
Simple but very clever. Thank you sir.
No probs buds ! Thanks for leaving a comment. Let me know if u have any issues. Try not to pack the cotton tight near the chimney. Will clog the flow fluid.
Man your a life saver thanks
Anytime buds
I gotta tell you... I've spent years (2 decades) thinking slim Zippos were just worthless. With this wick packing (no baggie) I'm now able to carry my slim Zippo ship's lighter. My adult daughter gets a useful lighter from her dad's service to the nation. Thank you!
Nice ! Glad u were able to get in good working shape. This way of packing really gets the job done.
For a regular Zippo I just put the whole lighter in a Ziplock bag so I don't rip the bag. Butane inserts are my favorite solution for Zippo, you won't get more fuel efficiency than that. But I did order a Zorro 912 and the metal gasket insert to go with it so I won't need bags anymore. Thanks for reviewing those btw.
Nice ! Yeah good choices buds. Steel gasket in a zorro is maximum efficiency lol
The organising trick with the wick and the cotton was really neat!
Thanks ! Works really good
Thanks for the video! Replaced the cotton with carbon felt. It saturates better.
Thanks fella, works great!
No problem 👍glad to help !
Just did this to my first zippo Ive ever had and it definitely helped i appreciate it a lot!
Great to hear! Helping zippo users around the world is what I love
Thanks for a great tip!!
No problem!
The easy way to prevent or at least slow down evaporation is to get your fluid insert nice and warm, then rub paraffin wax all over it. When you reinsert it into the lighter body the wax creates a vaporproof seal.
Just make sure you don't get that zippo wet or that wax will combust like a stick of dynamite
without a Bag trick I have never had one leak in my pocket. I'm 66, I do the wick mostly the same way as you did here. However, I always use the felt. mostly to store an extra Flint, when I fill the lighter using the flint port, I insert the Nozzle into the flint port. filling until the felt is soaked, then using the vacuum accumulated in the Fill bottle, i stop squeezing, this sucks the excess fuel out of the lighter. I get about 3-5 days use depending on it's use rate.
Very nice 👍
Thanks for the video. These are very useful mods. I like my zippos, but as I am not a smoker, I have fallen back to older sealed lighters, primarily made by Evans as my goto's. Evans build quality beats the hell out of IMCO, IMO. These will hold fluid for a month or more, as the tanks are gasketed and sealed, and the lid mechanism forms a rudimentary seal around the wick. It won't last as long as a Douglas lighter, but then they don't cost as much either. Someday, I hope to land a Galter sealed AL lighter circa WW2.
No problem buds. Yeah those are all very nice lighters. I like all the old ones too. Just zippo is my passion
What about the Maratac Peanut lighters?
This is so clever. I never would have thought of this. I have my dad's old Zippo, that I love to use as it reminds me of him, but the fuel only lasted about 3 days and was driving me crazy, so I stuck it in a drawer. I have done as you suggested, unwadding the cotton and ess-ing the wick, plus the sandwich bag trick. I'm hoping this makes a difference so that I can use my dad's Zippo on a regular basis now. Thanks!
How’d it turn out
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Well funny enough, the day after I did that, I came down with a bad cold and am still sick. Because I felt so bad, and needed to get well, I stopped smoking. So I haven't used the Zippo since I did the baggie trick. However, I just checked it, and it lit right up -- hasn't evaporated. So it seems to work just fine.
@@SurvivalistChick nice ! Lol hope u feel better
Smart!! Thank You I got my on the way. Now I know how to set it up and I’m for sure going to do the sandwich bag trick.
Thanks ! Nice man. What zippo did u get ?? I just want to add the sandwich bag also keeps your insert from sliding up when u open the lid.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors I got the Brushed Chrome 41 for now since it’s my first Zippo. I wanted to get something chrome but I didn’t want a design on it for now since I wanted one for a everyday carry and I didn’t want to mess up a nice one. I did want the Venetian 352. I really liked the design on it but I’m just going to get it later on.
@@WavyTh3L0c great 1st zippo !!! 41 is the peak of excellence great choice my man.
Thanks Mike! This is awesome. I just did the trick and will see how long it will last but i am excited already because my wire thinie was out to the side just like in your video so, this will work. Thanks bro.
Nice !! If u have problems with it probably cause it got packed to tight near the chimney. Easy fix. Happens to me once in a while
Great hack, thanks dude!!
No problem!
Just got my zippo off the shelf. As soon as the fluid I ordered comes in I'm going to try this trick. Thanks
Yeah your gonna find it runs more efficient this way

Thanks I try to make the zippo experience fun for everyone
Famous artist and genius too !!!
Thanks for this. I finally got frustrated enough with going to use my Zippo and never having fluid to research it and now I know 1) it's a thing 2) there's an easy fix.
No problem ! Also if u want to last even longer. Throw out the rayon cotton and get organic vape wicking cotton. Absorbs more fluid. Or just get a butane insert. I like the new yellow flame personally.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors thanks for the tip!

Classic bag trick 🔥✌ heck yeah.
Yes with out the felt though. Big difference now being able to fit in more fluid
Wow thanks for the tips, the lighter was awesome when I was out in unkind weather conditions but its longevity was its downfall for me…however it seems to be improved with these tips. Thanks
Nice man. Glad u dug in there and did it right
New sub, thanks for sharing this tip, am gonna use it the next time my zippo dries out.
Yeah no probs. Make sure u don’t pack it tight near the chimney. U will know u did if the zippo won’t light first strike consistently and flame will go out
Thank you so much for showing this trick 😄 I was always anointed that my zippo dries out so fast! I always wondered what would be a normal time for a zippo to. Hold it's fuel over Time without using it.
Glad I could help!
Great video Brother!!! Very informative! My wife just bought us 1 each and we love em!! I am about to Do your trick to ours! I really appreciate that! We were loosing cheap lighters all the time! I will have mine forever! I told my wife "I'm sure that fckr knows his shit with zippos, Cause I'm sure he knows cold Weather where he lives! Thank you again! You officially have 2 new Subscribers! Peace and Love from Gulf Shores,Alabama!!!! ~ROLL TIDE~
Haha another bama brother ! Roll tide ! Lol yeah being from Canada cold weather is my thing. Glad u guys found the love zippo. These packing methods will make fluid last longer. Any questions just ask ! Always willing to help
great idea, thanks
You are welcome!
Thanks for the info! Got my first Zippo, couldn't figure out why after each fill it only worked for a short time.. gonna fix the wick now!
Glad I could help!
Well done sir.
Hey bro I watched this video like two weeks ago and I rewicked my 1935 replica your way with the factory "cotton" (without the sandwich bag trick) and it lasted 9 days. Very impressed. Today I filled two other cheap zippos with cotton bacon and ebay flints. Your videos helped a ton! I've been using clipper lighters for a while now but they aren't "fun"
Yeah zippos are just pure class. Plus they have butane inserts now so there’s no excuse. But like u I prefer the fluid. Especially in the winter
I love a good DIY hack--fun to have that to try out!
Common mistake people pack it to tight near the chimney. If u notice it’s not lighting or staying lit. Or not lighting up first strike. Your choking the wick. Repack and loosen up don’t try to smash the cotton in. It’s gotta fit loosely
great tips!
I think it is a great Idea . I am going to try it and I am sure it will last a lot longer than It has so far.
Thank you !
You are welcome!
I use a commercial rubber plug i got off Amazon ($5) to replace the zippo felt plug which does the same thing. In addition, i slip a ranger band over the outside of the zippo case covering the crack between the zippo lid and case preventing any evaporation.
After these easy mods, my zippo lasts in excess of a week!
Thank you for your videos, I’m going to buy 4 zippos to start my collection. You are the best zippo CZcamsr out there.
Wow thanks for the kind words ! I appreciate it , I try my best to put out good content.
Thanks..owesome bro
Welcome 😊

Interesting trick!!!! I’m a try it out!!! Thank you!!!!!
Did it work?
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors yup it hold fluid so much better, I can go a week+ without having to refill…thank ya thank ya :)
@@AirborneAnt slick! Exactly why I make these vids. Get people running they’re zippo like a race car.
Pinching the lighter at the top helps as well. Pulling the insert in and out loosens it.
Thank you Sensei 🥷
Haha anytime grasshopper
Thanks for this plastics idea🎉
No problem I
A few days ago, I just wanted to look, what a Zippo costs, I would have buy one as a birthday gift to a co-worker and friend... then I saw some german videos "for Beginners" they were so boaring and deadly serious, and then I found your channel, I first thought - oh nooo not english - I couldn't find a channel so good and with humor and knowledge out of experiene, so I returned and I think I looked nearly every video. Thanks for all, you are now responsible that I (61) turned in 3 or four days to a Zippo Fan (my first Zippo is coming tomorrow). (Excuse my mistakes in english, school is soooo longtime ago). Kind regards and have a wonderfull time Nicola from Munich
Your English is fine. Oh thanks ! Glad I could be apart of your zippo experience. Let me know how u like it when it arrives. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
nice good explanation. thanks. 🙂❤️🇱🇹👍
Thanks ! Glad u founds it useful
Well, I haven't carried a Zippo for several years, because I got tired of refilling it every other day, I did this little rework last Saturday and filled my lighter, it's been six days so far and it's still burning perfectly, I'm waiting to see how long it lasts.
If your an everyday user should only last 8-10 days. That seems to be what I get. If your gonna leave it standing up and only barely use it. I can get 3 weeks just standing there. Glad it’s working for u and your back into zippos. Also don’t have a habit of letting it run out I just fill it every Friday. Makes the wick last longer. I understand your trying to see how long it lasts though. But best to keep it fueled.
One thing that works really well is to thread the inside of some stainless brake line, then cut to maybe 1/4 inch length. Insert a screw into it. Then cut a piece of thin stainless sheet metal to match the bottom of the tank, and drill a hole in it to accept the stainless brake line. Solder the brake line into the sheet metal, and then solder the sheet metal to the bottom of the lighter. Now all you have to do is unscrew the screw, and fill it up. It lasts forever, and it’s easy to remove solder if your zippo hasn’t been stolen by the time you need a new flint.
I’m still working on anti-theft mechanisms
Interesting - Thanks!
😎👍
Thanks for watching!
thats pretty cool, thanks a lot
No problem!
I tried wrapping the felt in plastic, before i screwed it back, worked great🤩🤩
Good idea buds!
Thank you sir
Cool !! Thanks !!!
No problem!
Sometimes , not always instead of putting the Zippo fluid straight on the cotton balls I just flood the case ,say half way, then insert the lighter and let it slowly soak up.Then I put a bit more of fluid. I’ve tried a few ways but it’s the first time I’ve seen or heard of the sandwich bag trick. I’ll give it a go and see how it goes.👍🏼
This is definitely interesting, I used a 2x2 plastic baggie. And it's all working pretty well so far. Love the tips man
No problem Alex !glad it’s working buds
All these tricks are great ideas, but i bought a new brass zippo with a leather pouch about 3 years ago and i only refill it about every 9 days. I only smoke 5 cigarettes a day. The only thing I've done to it is trim the Wick. The flint will last about 60 days. Our Landfills don't need anymore disposable anything.
That is cool. Might work well for a camping lighter.
Thank you mate…
No problem 👍
It is the 100 year anniversary of the Peacock Hand warmers that use the exact same fuel. The same problems apply, but I'm starting to think a liquid fuel Zippo is better than a butane lighter for the purpose of starting the hand warmer. I already have the fuel, I just need to initiate the hand warmer reaction. The Zippo hand warmers are more difficult to start and typically run too hot, but some of the parts are sometimes interchangeable between Zippo and Peacock.
I appreciate your video and I definitely unwrapped my cotton/rayon and repacked it as you suggested...but, the sandwich baggie...fail. My pipe insert is pretty tight and the sandwich baggie just rips and sticks out every single time i try to put the insert back in...had to do without...but, everything else helped. Thank you!
Good video bud
Thanks Sammy!
Neat trick!👍😎🍻
Thank you! Cheers!
Great idea! I'll have to break my Zippo out of the drawer and try your trick.
Hey bro ! I think an Alaska man like yourself will enjoy it. I’m in Canada and I leave a zippo outside during the winter incase I forget mine. Nothing more reliable for the cold.
Tomorrow my first zippo (167 high polish Chromo) will arrive, I will use it for a while to see if it lasts me long enough or if it loses liquid, then I will use your trick. Nice video tutorial mate 👌🏻
Thanks Paolo ! Congrats on your new armor zip. U are gonna love it. Ever have any questions come on back
Nice. Ive been using a Zippo for a while now. Much better than buying one disposable lighter after another.
I just looked up some maintenance tips and your video came up. Im gonna pull my wick up, trim it a bit, and use your sandwich bag trick.
Thanks! 👍
Sick man ! Welcome to the fam. I would def repack the insert also.
Thank you. Peace
No probs buds !
Top! Thanks :)
Thank you too!
Thank ya very much dude! Really cool
No problem dmitri ! Glad u found it useful
I have the Zippo lighter but no longer smoke BUT I found the old school method worked worked with far less effort than using a polythene bag. Al you need is a piece of thin leather cut to size and shape of the case bottom internal then push it in this will work as a permanent gasket, also thin rubber or plastic will work just as well but the leather is the best and you can keep the felt because that will also hold fuel the same as the cotton wool.
A friend of mine repacked his Zippo with Cotton Bacon used by people who vape and use Rebuildable atomizers (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer/Rebuildable Drip Atomizer (RTA/RDA)), he then used a needle to draw the new wick through the cotton packing. He cut extra wicking and made a loop under the piece of cotton that he used to replace the felt.
I knew it!!! that cotton barrier doesn't help at all thanks for the info brother
No probs ! Well it does help if u don’t use the bag trick. But when using the bag it’s not really needed
I bought a bottom of the line Zippo and noticed that the fluid didn't last as long as my old one. I found out, under the felt, there was a giant open spot, no cotton. I didn't have anymore cotton so I scraped some off of some Q-tips. I also save "dead" Bic/other lighters for their flints, most will work in a Zippo
for some reason, you sound a llot like my fav youtuber, AvE.
Hell. I sub'd just for the flippy-finger-Mc-zippo trick.
Everything else is cake!
Haha thanks
This is like, duh. Way better than what I had tried previously, using petroleum jelly as a barrier on the felt. Less mess with a better seal.
Got a brass zippo last year for my birthday and had been refilling about ever week as a non smoker just using it for my fire place ect and just did this hopefully it lasts alot longer
Get butane insert! Save urself a ton of hassle
In the future can you make a video on how store collectable zippos and dos and don’t if your looking to resale them later? As always love the videos.
Ill do that video tomorrow !
The military kitchen knife is cool
Had one of those new butane inserts and it didn’t last very long. Based on your video here I repacked my cotton. Without removing the wick I was able to snake bend it easily. One difference, I cut the felt at the bottom to half the thinness and reused it. Now all that’s needed is to gasket it and get some fluid…imagine it will now work like a charm…or you’ll be hearing from me! 😂
Havent herd from u. Must be working good haha
Thank you. Interesting methodic. I will try this out, because my zippo when lighting, doesn't hold flame for long( it burn only for 10-20 sec.
Sounds like it’s choked off with the cotton. No problem Andrew
Looks like a good way to prevent a zippo sized burn on your leg from leaky fluid.
That's how I have my daily carry set up ever since seeing you do it on your old channel. Except I've been using one of those Zorror gaskets from China instead of the felt pad. Has been working great. Lasts at least three extra days now. Usually over a week and a half between fill ups. Great video🔥🔥
That’s great ! Yeah removing the felt if your gonna use a bag or a gasket is the best. U fit more fluid and get a good seal. Thanks for sharing terry !
I got my first armor today matching insert H22
Yes !!!! Congrats buds. I’m sure u are absolutely frigging loving it
Awesome video ..keep it up
oh nice, good idea
