25k views? That means over 20k people have been roped into playing this all-day game by one of their nerdy friends. Rad.
It makes me so proud
Make that 25001. My friends are gonna introduce me to it in about a week, so I'm here to do my homework.
It’s only an all day game if you is a noob. I win in about 6hours usually.
💪
@@TheImperfectSon modest, aren't ya...
In just under 2 weeks I will have been one of those people 😂
Perfect pace and pedagogical approach. This is the gold standard for how to teach a board game of this magnitude. Thank you!
Ok, so I've watched Twilight rules videos several times over now.
I understand how to set up the board.
I love this video! Other "learn to play" videos I've seen for TI just stop at presenting the rules without interpreting them or defining terms -- which isn't helpful if you're brand new to the game! This video does a great job at really laying a definitional foundation for new players and scaffolding them into a better top-down understanding. Thank you!
Thank you! The one goal for this was to explain the legitimate way things work. The tactical action is difficult to understand otherwise. I appreciate it :)
You are a board game legend! I'm diligently preparing a large TI4 event and couldn't pull it off without your content!
Thank you, Binky! You’re the reason it keeps coming!
I was going to make a video like this. I'm SO glad you beat me to it! This is the new standard for rules explanations in my book! Thank you for your hard work!
Hot take - this is the best TI4 tutorial on CZcams. It's clear, concise, and chronological. Very much appreciated!
I have a slightly different understanding on two points, please can you check?
1. You state that, in a 3 or 4 player game, 2 objectives are chosen in snake draft. However, the rules state that both objectives are chosen in clockwise order starting with the speaker.
2. You state that ground forces that you wish to retreat are moved back into space during "Announce Retreat" (Tactical Action Step 3ii), however the rules do not state this. Instead ground units move to space as the ships move during "Retreat" (Tactical Action Step 3v).
I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks again for an outstanding tutorial.
Great instructions; I've been playing TI since 2nd edition and my group just got 4th. Will be sending them this video prior to our first game.
Hey great video! One of the first and best I've found with POK! A great place to send my game friends to prepare them for this experience.
And keep the faction reviews coming!
Thanks so much! Will do :)
Hey man Im playing for the first time this Saturday! Thanks for this video!
I'm a little late to the party but well done, this is honestly one of/if not the best explanations of this complex board game I've ever seen! Keep it up!!
Not late at all, nice to have you!!
Wow, this is the BEST tutorial I've watched on this game yet. I'm starting my first game on Discord soon and am watching videos on how to play. Thank you SO much for explaining things so clearly.
You’re welcome! Cheers!
Excellent description, thanks.
This video is perfrect to refresh the game ❤ amazing job
Great job! Thoroughly enjoyed!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Great video! Helped a lot
What a fantastic rule video!!!! Thank you very much, mate!!!!!!! 👍
Legendary Planet cards come from the deck readied and from other players in whatever state they were already in
Nice catch!
32:15 actually my group puts the turned custodian token near the score marker and the person who flipped it puts a control marker on it, then whenever someone plays imperial while on mecatol they also put a control marker there. I'd say this method is better since you can count all the control markers to know how many points everyone has and don't have to keep track of mecatol's points separately from the others.
That’s a good idea, I’m going to adopt that into my games
This is perfect for me
Fantastic video!
Thanks so much!!
Another minor error: If you take a Legendary Planet Ability card from another PLAYER, yes, it comes exhausted. However if you gained it from the deck (i.e., you were the first to take it), it comes readied.
Gotcha, interesting
Cool video
I think I found a rules mistake at 19:47. The quick play guide states that ‘players can exceed their ships’ capacity during combat’
9:29: A correction. Every player draws two secret objectives in the beginning and then discards one.
Though I rule this the same way you do at my game table, the rules actually state otherwise, surprisingly. It’s a house-rule. A really good one, but still
@@CardboardCrashCourse This is incorrect. While it is true that one objective is recommended in the "First Game Setup," presumably because new players won't have any context to help them choose, the standard rule is to draw two. From LRR "Complete Setup," Step 12 - Prepare Objectives: "Each player draws two secret objectives and chooses one to
keep. Shuffle the unchosen secret objectives back into the secret objective deck without revealing them."
EXCELLENT REVIEW !!! WELL DONE SIR... WELL DONE INDEED !!!!
Hey, great video! very informative.
Just one minor correction @19:43 .1- "Rules reference 16.3: A player’s fighters and ground forces can exceed capacity during combat. At the end of combat, he must destroy the excess units." (u/Bl_rp)
Ah, you are very right! Good ear
Thanks!
Thanks so much! You’re welcome
Hey dude I love your vids but I think there is a typo in the time-stamps, it says 10:00 instead of 00:00.
Hey, thanks so much! Fixed!
Hello great video. Could you address the planetary shield affect.
Thanks again for this awesome video
Hi there! Although I probably won’t make an official video to address it, the wording of Planetary Shield is as such:
If a unit has the “Planetary Shield” ability, the planet where that unit is located is not an eligible target for other units’ “Bombardment” abilities.
So, in essence, it turns off Bombardement for against the planet it is on.
Thanks for the kind words!
@@CardboardCrashCourse thanks for taking the time to make these great videos! My friends and I are going to try this again courtesy of your videos
Great! Glad to hear it!
Hi just watched this an must say it is the best explanation of TI4 I´ve come across so far. Also noticed you did not upload for some time and there are still a lot of factions to explain, will you continue your work (which would be much appreciated) or did other aspects in your live take priority over youtube? - If so I would have to search for another channel delivering quality contend on TI4 .... and there are not that many.
Tomorrow, my friend! Weekly guides!
Great video! I spotted an error, though. You say that in a 3-4p game Strategy Phase, everyone chooses their first SC and then their second SC "in snake order" (which means "first to last, then last to first"). That isn't right. You choose your first and second both in standard order, starting with the speaker then clockwise, ending with the person to the right of the speaker. I think you may have internalized a house rule there!
Wow, thank you for the clarification! That must be a house rule then! Take that part with a grain of salt, but I appreciate your kind words otherwise
@@CardboardCrashCourse I agree with Peekitty, and would like to add that this changes the game significantly, giving 4th player position too much power, and making the speaker token way less desirable. You might wanna add a correction to the video about it. Whether or not you do, I would like to thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video. Good refresher for me after not having played for more than a year.
Does anyone know what organizer he uses?
It’s a homemade one! Would you like a video showing it off?
After playing both I will never play TI4 without prophecy of kings
Love the game! It needs a companion game master app to facilitate. Must petition the company to invest in an app.
Nice Guide, but you forgot to put Frontier Tokens in Systems with Anomalies+Planets.
Pretty sure frontier tokens only go in systems with no planets.
@ImperialGlit is correct
or 14 in a longer game......
Haha, yeah. They always go so long. A lot of fun, though!
10 is usually a day even already.....
you miss 80% of expansion mecanics
Which ones were you referencing?
