Corrections:
4:12 You should choose your secret objective before revealing the public objectives
6:35 I say that the numbers next to planets refer to their "production and influence values." It should be their RESOURCE and influence values. Hopefully this didn't confuse anyone too much.
8:18 If you build infantry in a multi-planet system, they must go on the planet that the spacedock that built them is attached to.
21:13 Not a correction so much as letting you know that FFG has released an updated version of the Diplomacy strategy card, which changes it slightly to make the primary a bit more useful. Check it out here (under "Player Resources") www.fantasyflightgames.com/en...
23:43 I say that the secondary of Construction doesn't allow you to build a PDS/Space Dock on an already activated system. You totally can though, as an eagle-eyed viewer helpfully pointed out, just discard the strategy token that you spend.

After watching this video I thought "I've got this."
I did not have this guys. But I at least had a rough idea. Cheers!
I'm about to play for the first time and I appreciate the wake up call haha!
@@jakeveltkamp3667 Eeeexactly my thoughts :D
Fourth edition has yet to take more than 6 hours for us, even with 5 new people. As long as someone is the turn pusher (says "it's your turn" every 2 minutes for 6 hours straight), you're fine.
That is impressive. The people I play with like to really take their time making decisions.
We actually finished a 4 player game in 3½ hours. This game definietly has the potential to be fast, compared to its predecessor.
Envious.. we had from 11Am-7PM and got nowhere near done. Was pretty frustrating.
Maybe you need one of these =)
www.digitalgametechnology.com/index.php/products/clocks1/227-dgt-cube
Or you can just be content not to finish, the joy of the game is playing, not finishing in my opinion. But games I've played have taken long as people do a lot of negotiating which takes lots of time, and rushing this takes away from the game I think.
"they don't call it a 'friendship sun'" is one of the best lines I've heard for this game
I've watched a handful of TI4 instructional videos. They've all been good, but this is something else. The thought and care that went into the examples are really impressive. I feel like I've just downloaded a "Matrix" training cartridge. "I know Twilight Imperium. Whoa."
Thanks! I'm really glad I can help people out with these.
😂👍
Show me.
@@owenyork3075 do you think that's air you're breathing?
Then Morpheus kicks your a** :D
I played TI3 and now TI4 for almost 20 years. And still everytime a new player joins us this is the mandatory learning video for them. Great video 👍
Thank you so much! Happy to be such a big help!
Nick telling me I've been good and get to learn about combat now is more fatherly validation than I got in my entire childhood.
Nice Standard Reference Pear shirt.
Yep, nice nod to SUSD!
i came here for this comment :)
I'll have to rewatch the first 5 minutes of this video. Got distracted trying to find this shirt. To no avail! 😓
And several years later, I still use this video everytime I'm hosting a game, both for the new players, and for the not-new as a quick refresher. I send it out a couple of days before the game as well. :)
Same here, this really is the best video for learning the basic rules to people!
Same!
Literally sent it to a few new players today. A good intro to the rules
I just want to take a moment to recognize the attention to detail here. Note the opening shot mirroring the original video, and 32 minutes length (again a mirror). Note the precise placement of each infantry flag at 2:00. From the scale of the entire channel down to the scale of each component on the table, every choice is carefully considered. Most of those careful choices are invisible to the viewer, because they are paring away what was non-essential; however their effort is felt and experienced in the results. This is art, and it is appreciated. Thanks, Shea.
My heart! Thank you so much! Both for saying such nice things and for noticing the little things that I try to sneak into these videos.

I feel like I'm watching Ben explains "Cones of Dunshire"

About to play my 6th or 7th game of TI next week and I always come back to this video for a quick refresher and some great laughs!
Hey thanks!
This is one of, if not THE, best rules explanation videos ever made!
Aw, thank you so much!
@@RTFM i prefer one with no jokes or gags
@@BentDoorFrame suit yourself.
@@BentDoorFrame no. Bad opinion.
This video is absolutely stellar and blows away every other TI4 video I've found thus far. Great job.
EXCELLENT! The last video was probably the only thing that got some people I played with into the game. They never would have even tried without it. Thanks man.
Dude i just finished all your TI3 videos out of desperation. This is a big welcome, thank you you beautiful human being!
Great rules video and probably one of the best on the web for any game. Thanks for your time and effort.
Just finished my first game, jolnar, came in 3rd. Thanks for your effort in this vid, it was extremely helpful. If I could make a suggestion for a future version of this vid, do a first round walk though where you go through every phase.
You’re the best man. My friend is traveling 6 hours later this month to play, we’ll definitely be using this video to learn 4th ed.
Wow. I was planning on doing a tribute video like your older video. And here you are doing a better version that what we could ever make. Way to go you guys.
This was just the first result I found looking for quick intro on this game, and I just had to compliment you, it was so easy to listen to what you had to say and the video was highly entertaining & informative. I wasn't expecting to find such a high quality video when I came into this.
Just a heads up, at about 23:45 when you say that you can't use the secondary of Construction on an activated system, this contradicts the Rules References which states in section 23.3: "If he already has a command token in
that system, the spent token is returned to his reinforcements
instead."
So you can still use the ability, but you don't "double activate" the system.
Dreadnot 9 yep, hope he does some kind of correction
Well, I was hoping the video would be up for at least 24 hours before someone notices a mistake, but you are quite right. Not sure how I mixed that one up, but good eye. Added a correction to the video, so hopefully it doesn't confuse things too much. Thanks!
Your correction is a bit confusing as you say you "cannot build" this is still true (cannot use production. Might be better phrased as you may still "place a spacedock or PDS". At least I was confused at first =)
I agree that the corrections is not much helpful. Other that great vid tremendous work.
I just wanted to take a sec to thank you for making these TI videos. The last one was required watching for new players in my group and this one will be too. VERY helpful in getting someone interested in my favorite game up to speed to play it with us. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Glad I could help.
Amazing as always, been waiting for this for so long thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos. You explain them in a clear way that makes it easy to learn the game. My group uses these videos as a refresher every time we go a while without playing TI3 or TI4. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! It really helps to hear comments like this!
Amazing tutorial RTFM, as ever!
I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of TI4 this Christmas!
Haven't seen this channel before, but 2 minutes in, from the conciseness of the presentation, and Nick (ok, mostly Nick), you have me hooked.
Haha, thanks. I'll let him know he has an admirer.
I watch this video at least once a year right before my group gets together for our TI night. Glad it’s still here 👍
Of course! It would take quite a force for me to take this video down.
So glad that you made this for 4th ed, the last one was the best video to share before every TI game!
Thanks!
Thank you for this! Just bought TI4 like four days ago and im planing to play it this tuesday!
A hug from Chile! :D
I will need to rewatch this many times before playing my first game, I'm excited.
Today we will play TI4 for the first time, and I feel really prepared for it, thanks to you.
Great video.
have a game this weekend used this as a refresher and sent to a friend who is a new player. Great video!
“We’ll talk about that more in a bit” drinking game
I have watch this video about 8 times over the last 3 years. A great reminder just before a TI4 session. I always send it to my newbie friends.
Thx a lot for the video. It's incredibly useful :)
I played my first every game of Twilight Imperium at the weekend and considering there were 3 new players in a group of 6, it was pretty smooth and took about 6 hours - thanks to two of us having watched this video. Fantastic game, and thanks for the guide.
I'm amazed that a group with three new players finished a game in six hours. That is a feat in and of itself. Glad I could help.
I return here every year for my Xmas TI4 refresher - fantastic video, thanks.
Haha, thanks!
Guys, just wanted to say a thank you. Everytime i bring out TI4, yours is our groups go to video to reacquaint ourselves with the rules.
Excellent video
Thanks! I'm glad it's so helpful!
I watched this and skimmed the rules intro book, worried that I would waste time asking dumb questions about the game, bog it down, and make it no fun... but there was only one time we got surprised by something in the game, it was entirely inconsequential, and I totally got the game flow down pat. Great video and I've signed up for the Patreon.
Thank you so much for the teach. I played TI4 for the first time today, and this video was super helpful for getting started!! We had a blast too!! Played for almost 9 hrs and will finish with a second session next week.
Happy to help!
I get my chance to play TI4 for the 1st time this weekend. My head is spinning a bit from all this info, but I'm grateful to have such an entertaining overview of how to play. Thank you!
Exciting! Good luck!
At 21:00, when he said "I swear to God if those are in your mouth I am going to kill you" I had coincidentally just put replacement earphone buds into my mouth 5 seconds before. I almost had a heart attack
XD
Love the rhythm and humor in this great tutorial
Yesterday I played Twilight first time with 4 friends. It took 13 hours. Damn, worth it.
Great video. This is well produced, entertaining, and really approachable. Well done!
Thank you!
Standard Reference Pear! Oh and an excellent video tutorial! Thank you very much for making this!
Just wanted to say, thank you for the great tutorial. It became mandatory in my group if anyone whats to join us. First, what the movie and then we will teach you :). Great work!
Well thank you so much! I'm glad I could help.
Thanks for making this. Just getting into the game now and this will be great for our group.
Yes! So glad to see a new video on this channel.
Is that a reference pear? Aww yeah!
Best TI video out there....Great work. Thanks
Wow, your production value has really gone up. Good job!
Super helpful, will probably be playing this with friends soon. Thanks for the explanations!
No problem, glad I could help!
I played 3rd edition one time six years ago and now some friends and I finally bought it. So excited. I was hooked on the thrill of hat one game. I played it one, single time and I loved it
Have watched this vid like 6 times over the years... and Nick always gets me =D
this is the best ti4 video i have ever seen, we play the game for more then 3 years and really played it a lot like 100 games, usually 3 player game but it takes us around 10 hours, and sometimes we decide to make it a draw because we would have to play 1 more turn and this extra turn would be another 2-3 hours :D but it is the best experience we ever had, because of ti4 the other games becacme unplayable, because it is just that good :D we played it now after 6 months and we were surprised that this time the game playtime was just 4 hours :D keep the good work, i always come back to this video, and the expension, because we play with it because addes only amazing things and those videos are the best refreshers of rules
Glad I can provide such consistent assistance!
I can definitely tell you have gotten better at these. I finally got to play 3rd Edition the other day and got to use your first video to help learn, and it was great. I am eagerly awaiting my chance to try 4th Edition. Keep up the good work guys!
Awesome work, guys. Todays our first game. Thanks for the great breakdown!
No problem! Glad I could help.
This tutorial is the one that helped me actually learn how to play. Good work guys and thanks.
Hey, glad I could help!
I bought this as a surprise for my boyfriend. We played our first game for 12 hours to learn everything. We played again and only took five hours!! It was an amazing experience and my first high strategy game win!!
Heaven Lorenz lucky guy!
Strider Zessei We spoil each other rotten with awesome "nerd" things!!

Nice to hear that ❤ best couple
Not all heroes wear capes. Great job! Thank you!
Lol, I asked about a TI4 video like the last one just the other day over on Reddit! Thanks! :D
My box arrived and my God I didnt realize how beautiful this game really is... Thank you for teaching me RTFM!
It's so pretty! Glad I could help.
Playing my first game with 7 players in a few weeks, thanks for the explanation, very helpful!
Glad I could help!
First time I played this was about year ago. Now I'm about to play my second game today. It would be appropriate time to rewatch this video.
i love all of your tutorial videos so much. you make it fun to learn rules
Thanks!
Extremely well made! Thankyou very much
Rules videos don't come better then this. I don't have Twilight Imperium or a plan to play to play it any time soon, I still watched this through happily.
A video so good, I now feel compelled not only to buy the game but to clone some friends as well.
I recommend both, though the cloning process is a bit expensive. Then again, so is TI4 so...
Love the work on this and eclipse. Thank you.
No problem, glad I could help!
Excellent video, men! I've already sent it in advance to my group...
So excited about playing this later this month (been playing the 3rd Edition for years). Also, nice 'Standard Reference Pear' shirt 😁👍
Haha, thanks!
Yesssss.. love these videos
Excellent video guys! Very helpful. Nice and entertaining and also informative!!
Thanks so much! Glad you like it!
Why am I just seeing this! This looks awesome!
Nice work, guys, really great overview
Thanks!
From 2021 and that Neil Patrick Harris joke has paid off!!!
I have a later copy, but still had the typo on Hyper Metabolism. I sent an email and I received the corrected cards. Also, I bought wooden inserts made by Laserox which are a great addition. They also sell plastic platforms with legs to place your fleet on, to make it all easier to move and less of a mess. I can highly recommend it!
Great video! I sent this to anyone I play with as a tutorial, and watch it myself every time I play after a while to refresh my memory :)
Glad to hear that this has been helpful for you! And that they're sending out replacements. I've seen those platforms and they look fantastic. I don't usually buy board game accessories, but I can see those being very helpful.
Fantastic rules explanation. Thanks for that. Keep it up.
Thanks!
This looks amazing
Thx for your video! The best i watched so far!
I'm playing Twilight Imperium for the first time on the weekend. I've watched this video twice. This video is great, and I'm hyped.
Awesome! Hope it goes/went well!
Watched this, just tried to play for 6ish hours with a friend group, now I'm back to rewatch and learn all the parts we were screwing up
That sounds about right for this game. I definitely took a couple games before I was playing it (mostly) right.
I want to play with you guys. You guys seems like you're quite fun to play with!
Ty for the good video! :)
Just bought this game, we have a game scheduled in two weeks. This video is fantastic instant sub to the channel.
Thanks! Good luck on your first game!
@@RTFM My Wife took the win for our first game. Played a few months later, managed to secure my first win. First game of POK next month. Still come back to watch this before each play though to make sure I don't get anything wrong!
Man I love your videos! Great work!
Thanks!
I just got this game. Goodbye weekends! Also, it was very funny how all the other players were the same guy.
You are really, really good at this.
Thanks!
And now we are looking forward to the new expansion for 4th.and your video for it
Hopefully. I tend to let my Patreon backers choose what I teach, though I might just have to throw that expansion in the mix anyway...we'll see.
I read the rulebook twice, but couldn't wrap my head around this game. You video was really helpful for me to get started. It took 6 hours to play the first 2-player version and 3.5 hours for the next 2-player version. Thanks for the great how to play video.
Glad I could help! I'm curious about this 2 player version though. Were you playing a variant or controlling multiple factions?
@@RTFM I tried this automation variant. boardgamegeek.com/thread/2268091/2-player-automaton-variant-ti4
@@NathanDHNam Interesting. I imagine a lot of people could use something like this right about now.
This is my go to video for explaining TI.
Thanks!
I wish I had a group to play with 😢. Great video!
This was great, thank you guys
Hurray! Well done!
This was very helpful! Thank you :)
Very impressed. Will hopefully find out just how helpful this vid is rsn... 👍🙏
I also have played this in only a couple hours. 3 hours on the short side, 5-6 on the long side. That said, 6 players takes longer than 4. Eating dinner mid game makes it take longer.
I do need to go look up the capacity / transport rules. I always thought, if you lost the ships that were 'carrying' ground forces, the ground forces were lost, regardless of other in system capacity.
Fantastic video. Playing this for the first time in a few days, and I’m confident I won’t look like a complete moron after watching this!
Haha, great! Good luck with the game!
Really well made video🤙🏼
Hey, with Prophecy of Kings. It's it time to revisit this?
That's what people keep asking. Might just...
@@RTFM let me know if I can help. I've got an unofficial discord of 5k hoping it's true!
@@philroi2672 Oh my! Well I'm going to have to put it to my Patreon backers, who get to decide what I teach, but I think they'll be just as interested in this as everyone else, so I'd give it good odds.
FINALLY, after watching like 6 videos, someone explains what a PDS is: 13:24
Haha, yeah. They spell it out in TI3, so maybe the designers thought everyone would just know? Figured I'd include it just in case.
