    I was worried when Coach was in the thumbnail.
    A guy who sets up so closed to the target; then starts his backswing so far on the inside only to come over the top on it at the start of the downswing, (but is still swinging from the inside) only to release hard from that inside path and then go inside on the follow though to produce that pull draw/hook off the toe that plagues him isn't the best guy for this tutorial (as much as I love him).
    Feel like a hashtag of get coach to setup and swing more neutral should be trending, haha.
    Mark is really good for this type of instruction.

    What I really like about your teaching Mark is that you understand that one swing idea doesn’t fit everyone. And because people have different ‘feels’ you give them a range of possible solutions. I think you’re right when you say that ‘feelings degrade’. I find that a feeling that works brilliantly one day has faded the next time I play. Of course sometimes that feel will work over a longer period but inevitably sooner or later it leaves you.

    Great stuff Mark. I've found that taking my driver way inside during the takeaway has worked best for me. 99% of the time that move sets me up way better than if I don't make that move. To be honest, I tend to get a wee bit steep, and that fixes that.

    Mark ove the tips. I was taught another thought which is to image there is a pillow 6 to 12 inches in front of my ball and the swing thought is to hit the pillow with the toe of the club first and not the flat face of the club. This taught me to turn the club through the ball as I have a habit of not releasing the club head. This got rid of my push fade slice straight away.

  • @adamevans5934
    @adamevans5934 Před 2 lety

    Regardless of take away it’s all about the initial move on the downswing - right handers keeping that right elbow tucked in - and then really rotating through your legs to clear your hips. Take away on the inside may help you be on plain and take away on the outside gives the sensation when you know your bringing your club through the inside (difficult to slice and come over the top on an outside take away after all!). Both work but it depends what clicks in your own mind!
    Good work mark!

    Great video. My driver is set up not to go left. I don’t need any help “please stop my slice” but do tend to hit a pull especially if my feeling of swinging out to the right about a foot in front of the ball starts to degrade. My ball flight tends to be fairly straight with a small fade.

Speaking to fellow club members, I understand others who ordered their clubs in July 2021 are also waiting for their clubs! Taylor Made fitted clubs are delayed by >9 months. Just thought when comparing clubs, service/delivery time should be another criteria selection to include. Thanks. Keep up the great work. 👍

    I can strike my irons pure on a fairly consistent basis. My driver has always given me trouble. I have a hard time hitting up on the ball & the release felt awkward. Got on the simulator & used my buddys TM R1, what a difference. I stopped being so stiff & let the club release through contact, not sure if my angle of attack is any better but that driver makes it feel like it. Buying one next week.

    When I take the club inside, it encourages a better turn. I facilitate this by using a slightly closed stance and keeping the stance narrow. My swing thought on the downswing is to "cover" the ball with the clubhead. This encourages me to release the ball through the shot so I don't block it. It still heads right (when properly executed), but on a draw instead of a block.

    I was recently playing around with take away ideas on the range. I have always had a wide take away which for me encouraged an over the top downswing. I’ve started taking the club back on the inside which makes it easier for my downswing to come from the inside. It has made the world of difference. I’m now drawing my driver and my irons are straight, with a little draw. I only started tracking with Shotscope since the change, but my driving stats show 70% fairway, 20% left and 10% right. My old swing stats would not look like that!!

    Mark, I love your teaching videos and always learn something. I would like to add a 4th tip that you didn't address. Grip pressure. In my limited experience slicers of the ball tend to strangle the club and we all know that tight muscles move slowly. That tight grip doesn't allow the forearms/wrists to release at impact and the open clubface causes a block-slice or a pull-slice.

    Mark, I almost feel I do those things OK, but I think my failure is that my follow through to completion gets a little short which then doesn't encourage that right to left or straight flight, by leaving the face "open" on follow through. I will work on tip#3 to see if that helps but wonder if there is something else that can get my actual swing to look like my practice swing where I look like someone is taking a picture of me.

    Hi Mark, I'm a huge fan of the "let the problem cure the problem" thinking. I've battled for years with being able to square the face at impact. And the one move that I basically did as a silly "lets see what happens move" is to open the club face as far as it will go on the back swing, it freaks my brain out and immediately draws all focus to the face position and I find it so easy to then feel the face rotating back on the down swing to square through impact.
    Thoughts?

  • @jamiesloan7259
    @jamiesloan7259 Před 2 lety

    Not I only do I change my swing path, when working a specific flight, I’ll also slightly change my grip. I’ll stand a little taller, and swing the club a little steeper, with more right side bend, and left exit, for the fade. I’ll also slightly weaken my grip, to insure that I don’t get the dreaded double cross(straight pull). Just the opposite for the draw…. I’ll reach for the ball a bit more at setup. This insures that I approach more from the inside. I’m swinging flatter, and more “around” myself for this shape. And again, I’ll slightly strengthen my grip, so I don’t hit the block, out to the right. Does my draw turn into a bit of an overdraw sometimes? Yes. Does my fade turn into a bit of a baby slice sometimes? Yes. I’m ok with those misses, because the shape is predictable, and the ball still ends up in play. Just some thoughts that may help someone…. I welcome any comments. Good, or bad. Would actually love to hear other people’s thoughts on this…

    • @caseyfoote7911
      @caseyfoote7911 Před 2 lety +1

      I agree 100%. A lot of people underestimate how much a minor change in your grip can change your shot shape. For me, it’s all about eliminating the 2 way miss. There’s nothing worse than setting up for a fade and then flipping your hands and hitting a pull.

    Thank you Mark, for a few years it seemed that lag was everything in instruction. In my experience, trying to create lag caused this exact problem where I became unable to release the driver properly. I now find I have to get the feeling of casting from the top in my practice swings to get squared up, I really struggle with it.

    • @justinstephenson9360
      @justinstephenson9360 Před 2 lety +1

      There was a whole teaching industry which misunderstood what lag was, they had everyone "hanging on to the angles". For most people that led to a steep swing plane in the down swing and a slice. There is nothing wrong with "casting" from the top - check out Larry Cheung videos about the down hinge, he actually encourages people to do that... to release the wrist angles early and just rotate through

    You have to be careful not to take the club back too far inside because many golfers do not have the athletic ability to get out of the way on the downswing and therefore end up swinging around the body in an out-to-in motion which you are trying to teach us to avoid. Much better to imagine swinging "straight" back (not with a loopy motion) and allow a natural flattening of the downswing to bring the club from the inside.
