It’s actually not respectable at all because in the end she completely erased good intentions with bad intentions by playing with his heart. It’s like trying to be helpful but actually being a problem to your peer.
What would’ve been more respectable is Sakura just telling the truth because there was no reason to lie. Sakura lying just proves she hasn’t learn a single thing about team work or actual relationships over the years because she thinks Naruto is just gonna give up on a comrade because she confess and told him to give up.

Probably because her confession was actually genuine. Sakura's "declaration" was pure cringe, but the Normies' reaction was gold.
It was meant to be though. It was her putting aside her feelings for the betterment of the Leaf and Naruto who had been cursed with this promise, but Naruto easily saw through it and still wouldn't give up no matter what. To Naruto he had to save Sasuke in order to become Hokage because if he couldn't save a friend how could he ever hope to be Hokage.

I wish they hadn't put Naruto's relationship with Hinata on the back burner after the Pain stuff because Sakura's fake love confession actually works well with how it follows so closely after Hinata's real love confession and could have made for some good development on that front.
Even Kishimoto stated at one point that he wanted to have Naruto and Hinata have a 1-on-1 talk after the Pain arc but never figured out how to incorporate it.

I know I'm super late to all this. But the eyes over the actual video is really annoying. I know it's to avoid copyright, but there are so many ways to avoid that without making it impossible to see anything going on.
Their whole reaction to the Sakura part is hilarious
Honestly it just seems like Naruto feels like he HAS to save sasuke before he can become hokage. Obviously he cares for Sasuke, but he talks about saving sasuke as if its paramount to creating his idea of peace. Lately his reasons for saving sasuke are centered arond the ramifications of killing him (cycle of hatred) and then in this epsisode he say its just something that he has to do, which make it seem as if he cant move forward (become hokage) unless he saves a friend. In his mind how can you protect a whole village as hokage when you couldnt even save a friend from themselves.
It also has to deal with what he inherited from Jiraiya and Nagato, how is he ever going to put a stop to the cycle if his response to one former friend actively perpetuating the cycle is to continue the cycle himself
Yeah this is a big part of it. I think he even says in their first battle something along the lines of "how can I become Hokage if I cant save a friend".
As he told Sasuke when they met at Orocimaru hide out ' how could i ever become hokage if i can't save one friend'
Not much people would stop and fix a problem before moving on.. most just get rid of it and deem it unworthy... it takes great effort to be a firend or good samaritan or just a good heart that can over hardship and see the best in people..

Manipulation was not her intention. She wanted to free Naruto of the promise her kept her. She didn't knew about Naruto and Sasuke's true bond, because the last time she saw them together was they were trying to kill each other in the rooftop of the Konoha Hospital. Sakura was guilt tripped by Sai who told her that Naruto was chasing Sasuke because of his promise and feelings to her. In Sai's defense, he also doesn't know much about what true bonds are during this time. It was all miscommunication on their part.

Other than that, I love the other plotlines that happened during this episode such as the rest of the remaining Kage in the room putting their differences aside to go up against Tobi (Madara) even I especially enjoy the scene when Ohnoki remembers the quote Gaara told to him as he smiles while Kurotsuchi and Akatsuchi walk beside him, and also Killer B preparing to face off against Kisame.
I think in the Japanese dub she kept calling Naruto "Naruto" and Sasuke "Sasuke-kun" so, it definitely didn't sell it.

I dont get why, when her reasoning is a bit sound. She says she loves him, so that Naruto can let go of his promise to her to bring Sasuke back to her, so he can be with her instead. It was fake, sure, but she was thinking that she could convince Naruto to take a step back from finding Sasuke, inform him of the decision of the village, and possibly either have him stay back while the Konoha 12 deal with him, or convince him to help them to take him out.

@@inmyhead00 but i mean, its this moment that people seem to overlook that, during this whole thing, Sakura herself is practically on the verge of a nervous breakdown; village was destroyed, her teacher comatose, the village and her friends planning to kill Sasuke and expect her to either go along with it or get out of the way, realizing Naruto's feelings for her and the amount of trauma she's caused him because of the promise she had him make her. She isn't thinking very clearly right now, or is focused on one specific path to this goal and not realizing the other paths she could take.

Personally think that Sakura gets way too much hate for this. She clearly had the right intentions, to stop Naruto from keep on going after Sasuke, it’s just her method was terrible. Plus, Studio Pierrot made her look awful compared to the manga.
the problem is that she didnt love naruto. So even if she got him to go back home, what then? She lives out the rest of her life with someone she doesnt love? Or she just cuts him loose and confesses that she lied to him about loving him. By her doing this she set herself up for either screwing herself over in the future, or screwing over Naruto in the future. Either way its a good thing that Naruto saw through the BS.

Something a lot of people overlook about Sakura: She has absolutely no clue about Naruto’s bond with Sasuke. All she knows is what she’s seen, and what she’s seen is Naruto and Sasuke try to kill each other on the rooftop, Naruto get severely injured after his 1st attempt to bring Sasuke back, and Sasuke attempt to kill Naruto during the 2nd attempt. Since the Chuunin Exams ended, all Sakura has seen is Sasuke seriously hurt/try to kill Naruto, and the two fighting. She has no perception of a “friendship” between them (and why would she?), so for her it MUST be her promise that’s making Naruto fight so hard for Sasuke.
Don't forget the last thing she's heard from Naruto regarding Sasuke was "Oh shit you really care about Sasuke huh? I swear imma bring him back!". What a silly woman, she should've known that they are the reincarnations of the First Hokage and the most deadly Uchiha warrior and that their brotherly bond transcends time itself

Man, if Kishimoto had put Sakura fighting Sasuke in the bridge after the Danzo fight like the in the Sasori arc ... Wouldn't have to be a fair or equal fight... But that was the moment to really show her determination and skill, but what we got was just lame.
She had good moments after that but they weren’t as big because Kishi focused on Naruto and Sasuke. On top of him being bad at writing women, they were all doomed. We really could’ve had some of the best women in anime smh.

There's some stuff that is often missed by people about that moment. First about Sakura's confession, the key line is that naruto says she's lying to herself, not that she's lying to him. Sakura didn't go there to bullshit on him, but on herself, she legitimately wanted to forget sasuke and respond to naruto's feelings so they could forget sasuke, but naruto knew that wasn't possible.
Second is naruto's decision to not let go of sasuke, it has a direct connection to the mission jiraya left to him, he can't get rid of the hatred in the world when he sees the person most similar to him be consumed by that same hatred, he is going after sasuke for personal reasons but also because he can't hold the words he said to nagato as true if he simply gives up on sasuke. He realized lost in their fight in the original series and couldn't convince sasuke to stay because he didn't understand him and didn't make an effort to do so, now he realizes that he needs to truly understand sasuke if he wants to continue on the path that not just jiraya but also minato trusted he would tread.

Can I just say that Sakura was almost guilt-tripped into coming here. She's the only one of the two mature enough to get that Sasuke needed to go down and she was told, by MULTIPLE people like Sai and Shikamaru that her request, made tearfully at the age of TWELVE was acting like a curse and dragging Naruto, and therefore the rest of the village, down. She thought that by giving him what he wanted, like everyone told her to, it would mean he would accept the Sasuke thing better. Did she underestimate his own desire to save Sasuke? Absolutely. But so did everyone else.
Nobody told her to tell Naruto she loved him lol she came up with that horrible plan all on her own. She even told everyone else not to say anything and to just let her deal with him

Sakura’s plan was essentially to sacrifice her own love life and future (and settle for Naruto) just to try and do the right thing by convincing him to be ok with killing Sasuke. Sasuke is a wanted criminal internationally at this point and even though Sakura still loves him, she knows it wouldn’t be right to let him continue on. Sakura believed that Naruto’s drive to save Sasuke stemmed solely from the promise she begged him to make back in the day. She was suffering from guilt because she believed herself to be responsible for Naruto wasting his life chasing Sasuke.
It's so hard to accept the fact that people like you who try to understand her character are so rare and that most people just prefer hating on her so that they don't have to do the thinking

Too bad most fans only see the bad in any action Sakura does... What was she supposed to do? Keep clinging on the promise Naruto made to her and put his life in danger? What else could she have done? I think that this extreme plan was the best given the circumstances: she either convinces Naruto that she loves him and makes him give up on the promise, or she faces Sasuke herself. Everyone keeps saying "Sasuke is strong, is she crazy? She can't do sh*t", well well well, wasn't that just what hinata did with pain? Sakura wasn't going to just sit on the sidelines and do nothing with so much going on, she risked her love, her future and her life to try and save Naruto from Sasuke's fate... And yes, lying about her feelings isn't fair to Naruto, neither to her, but as long as his life is out of danger she risked it.

What hurts me isn't that fact that Sakura gave a lie of a confession, but that the stuff she said to support it was genuine realizations that she's come to over the course of the series so far. And it's just thrown to the trash/burn pile, because she thought she could trick him a lie supported by truths.

Ok lets be honest I do not mind Sakura that much, but she has really low moments, with this taking the top spot. This is the lowest she's been since start of Shippudden. I mean her in Pain arc, Sasori fight and what comes later is incredible, but it doesn't erase the bad.

Hinata's entire character revolves around Naruto, and she's a retired chunnin housewife now and a typical Yamato nadeshiko. Sakura is a kage leveled jonin, the best medic and actually tried to help save Sasuke and Naruto.
The way it works is that Sasuke is Naruto's bro, Sakura is a childhood crush, and Hinata is someone he loves without knowing what romantic love feels like.

I wish people would realize that this is what Sakura was trained for. A ninja's life is about deception and using every advantage you have to accomplish your mission. Shikamaru and everyone else gave her the task of trying to convince Naruto by any means necessary, and she took that seriously. In our world, doing something like this seems obviously wrong, but in the shinobi world, a kunoichi using her feminine wiles to manipulate someone is standard procedure. Sakura is in a position where she is overwhelmed and doenst know what to do, but sees how important it is to convince Naruto. Since Sai just informed her of the depth of Naruto's feelings for her, this is the only solution that comes to mind. And this is exactly what her many teachers over the years would have instructed her to do in situations like this. We can't fault her that the Shinobi world didn't prepare her to properly deal with the situation.
It's good that Naruto sees through her ruse, because it never really causes him much pain. It also ends up being good for them both because it lets Naruto know once and for all that Sakura doesn't hold him responsible for failing to bring Sasuke back (which im sure was in the back of his mind for years), and relieves Sakura of the guilt of pushing Naruto so hard because she sees that it was his own desire all this time and not her own.
So awkward and inappropriate as her fake confession was at this time, I don't blame her for trying it, and it also was good for both of them that she did.

Ah yes what a legendary episode
I don't hate Sakura as much as others do but this moment she pissed me tf off. I get she wanted to stop Naruto from going after Sasuke but this was not the way to go. It was stupid and disrespectful. Anything else would have worked better.
What makes me even more mad is this actually could have been a cool moment for Sakura. She should have just talked to Naruto friend to friend and make her stand. She could have been the audience voice here and straight up told Naruto to forget about Sasuke and that all that they've been doing for him and how much they value him is not worth it. Sakura was the one who got Naruto to make the promise to save Sasuke and she could have been the to take it back as well in a way that actually made sense. It would have been a moment of growth for her, this girl who have been simping for Sasuke since day 1 and often disregarding Naruto, to finally get over Sasuke, understand that she needs to let go of her misplaced feelings and most importantly prioritize her friendship with Naruto over Sasuke. Naruto was someone who has always been there for and a true friend, it was her turn to be one. Whether all of this would have worked out or not, it would have been a moment of growth for Sakura nonetheless. She would have gained so much respect from everyone if she had done this.
Instead we got this fucking shit smh.
The strangest part of the negative reaction to this scene is that really no one in-universe was offended that Sakura did that, including Naruto himself. In fact he was more bothered that she'd give up on her love for Sasuke because he himself was stressing over his bond with him (though this is before hearing that the guy became a Level 5 terrorist). At the end of this arc Naruto virtually resigned himself to suicide over Sasuke and yet people lost their shit to Sakura trying to get Naruto to not push himself THAT far.
It's funny because before I finished the series and I saw people talking about the "Sakura confession" I thought she did some detestable manipulative thing to harm her friend. It's like a chunk of the fanbase misread the scene for the sake of hate while meanwhile literally everyone in that scene aside from Naruto (hell, literally every ninja in the Kage Summit) was ready to murder Sasuke for his crimes.
People just love to shit on Sakura, that's really the only explanation.
