I agree with him. We need a manager who promotes players playing in Europe. It’s ok to acknowledge that the MLS is a trash league. Look at Belgium, Croatia, and Brazil. They don’t have good domestic leagues but the national team is amazing because they promote overseas development for their top players and hey if they do find domestic talent the national team helps that domestic player find a good club. I honestly think Van Gaal would be great for the job (if we could persuade him)

jdwilliams2567: Belgium actually does have a good domestic league, just not a top league like england, spain, germany etc... The Belgian Pro league is currently ranked 9th on the UEFA ranking, and clubs like anderlecht, standard, Genk, club brugge etc... always participate in the champions league or europa league and manage to get good results, i think it was last year that Anderlecht managed to tie with manchester united, so Belgian clubs should not be underestimated. Also, in the past, the Belgian Pro league was one of the best leagues with clubs like anderlecht or club brugge beating world class clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona...

Brazil doesnt have a good domestic team. Wow dude, where do you think Neymar, Jesus, Arthur, Willian, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rovaldo, Cafu started? Even then our reserves had many domestic players, one being Everton who was schooling the U.S national team. We dont send them to Europe to get better, we cant hold them cause Europe teams have a lot of money. Brazil domestic talent is very good, and when they win Libertadores they often give headaches to these top Europe team. Brazil used to be better when we kept all of our domestic talent, if anything Europe has downgraded our players dribbling skills and samba style.

jdwilliams2567 klinsman lowkey was acknowledging that MLS was trash. He was getting criticized for not calling the likes of feilhaber, Trapp, kljestan, regularly and was criticized for criticizing Altidore, Bradley, Bedoya for coming back to MLS. Then when Bruce did call these guys in, everyone was happy. Oh feilhaber is back, oh Beasley is back! We need to know what we want first before we get it.

I always thought that the away goal rule was brought in because teams playing away in the first leg would just park the bus and rely on winning on the return leg at home. The away goal rule was to entice them to attack more rather than shut up shop with boring football. Can't see why you should change it.

It's crazy how year after year we expect things to drastically change. As far as the US domestic league is concerned if you compare it to power houses yea we can't touch them. You have to realize not only how young this league is, but also how young the academies are. Realistically I don't think we've given it enough time to judge it fairly, but not only that if we look at the improvement of the MLS on a 5 year increment bases they've kept on growing in talent and popularity. I think it's important not to get impatient. In time, once we can produce good players in our academies we can look at pro/rel, but as of now that's not going to solve our problems mainly because we won't have as many people willing to invest in soccer. I mean how are the lower end teams going to stay alive if soccer isn't even that popular in our country. Once we can start producing great player then ok, maybe by then the interest will have increase to have enough fans to help support their local clubs. The problems always come down to money. If you're paying attention there have been various changes, especially when it comes to the quantity of players that we're helping develop, but like I said even our development academies are relatively young. I'm not even sure we've had anyone go from playing in the MLS youth development to amateur teams (the U.S. Soccer Development Academies were started in 2007) we may have kids that started playing at 11, but realistically any star players in most sports start younger.

Away goal rule is fine. My problem is when extra time is added. If extra time needed, the away goal rule should just apply from then. Because extra time of 2x15 with the possibility of gaining an advantage of away goals is just not fair.

It's the other way round. If you play the away leg first, you don't know how many away goals you need. But if you play at home first and, say you win 1 - 0, in the second leg you just need to score once and the other team is already in trouble needing to score _thrice_ .

FC New England buddy the MLS is a joke admit it the way it’s setup is to ONLY MAKE MONEY every other leaguer in the world has a relegation system that makes the league interesting every year. The star players that come from Europe only go to the big cities (as a revs “fan” I have seen no good players come to us since Jermaine Jones and he lasted a season or two) MLS is one of the the reasons why our national team struggles. You wonder why guys like Pulisic, McKennie, and Sargent are starting to leave for Europe... it’s because they have nowhere to go in the MLS they won’t become a star their, the league is trash wake up and realize that.

Us Men's soccer is a joke. With colleges so expensive, star players are going to use their talent to get a college degree. The MSL is not the NBA where first round selections become multi millionaires. College does not develop players like a pro team would. The pay to play systems leave out the less affluent making soccer like Tennis. States have rules about out of season coaching. In my state they can not even meet with the kids to talk about soccer during the offseason. Maybe this works for football and basketball but not a super high skilled sport like soccer. THe overall level needs to improve. I played against Danny Cantor in club, college, and in a scrimmage against the USMNT. So part of his development was playing against myself and teammates for 600+ minutes of his soccer development. If I was better, along with my teammates and all his other opposition then he would have been better. I also played against John Harkes in an indoor tournament, I was out of college and he was a senior in high school. He went to UVA, somewhere in the UK, and the national team. He would have been better if he was with a European pro team youth system.

Get a MLS coach, build with MLS veteran standouts and go from there. MLS is American soccer brand, so let the USMNT build from that and get better from that style of play. Instead bringing in someone from another part of the world that has a style that is totally foreign to the players that will be the USMNT roster. Sink or swim with what the USA actually does and is familiar with. Who cares what the rest of the world thinks. That's their issue to worry about.
