Owners really are doing whatever they want and making up reasons later, seems pretty common in this town/state. All my coworkers had kids so they stayed and didn’t say anything. The ones who didn’t left bc of conditions in the workplace. No one is taking them to court bc “it’s not the “Christian thing to do”. Personally I’ve already had an issue with a previous employer and don’t want a “pattern” on my resume or word to get around in our small town.. Most people in this country are one medical emergency or accident away from bankruptcy. I don't want this for my kids. And college is too expensive. I've been researching this past year what countries we might move to for the sake of my children and future grandchildren. They deserve a better chance. I'm almost 50 and just this year was able to pay off my student loans.

    • @persnickety369
      @persnickety369 Před 18 dny +4

      It's a vulnerable feeling to take my kids to live in another country where we'll have to learn new customs and language. But it's also a vulnerable feeling when the hospitals and nursing homes sue families to take their homes. After my mother died from cancer in 1999 the hospital sued to take my dad's farm to pay for her radiation bills and a 7 day hospital stay, with one operation in the hospital where she passed. In their eyes that was enough cost to take his entire life's work. But he got assistance from legal aid and was able to fight back and save the farm. But I'll never forget it. It's been 25 years and medical expenses have continued to swell.
      Americans continue to eat, consume and apply to our bodies daily, chemicals that other countries ban. So we are getting sicker and sicker and paying more and more for it. I can't in good conscience keep my kids here knowing this is their future. But I won't lie, it's scary to think of becoming an immigrant to another country. Our goal is to try to do it within the next 2 years before my oldest is a legal adult and before she gets in any serious relationship that would break her heart to leave.
      There are surprisingly many large ex-pat communities around the globe. We're trying to pick the safest. 🤷‍♀️ We at least have to try.

Compared to them, the US almost always comes up short. At this moment it appears the US is the 26th most Democratic country. Not even in the top 10! We're actually hovering between Spain (#25) and Estonia (27th). We've got to turn things around here. The current levels of *inflation* are primarily due to forced shortages performed by market manipulation. The basic needs for people are there, but since corporation profits (not revenue) must always be growing, they need to limit access now to necessities to continue to grow. People continue to misunderstand how growth works here and the difference between revenue and profits. Oddly enough, a company that shipped 1000 units making $1 per unit of profit would do OK, but if they figured out how to make 200 units and make $2 per unit, then investors would praise them and reward them w/ higher stock prices. That is LESS PROFIT, but more MARGINAL PROFIT. And *that* is the curse of the current pricing models and late-stage capitalism.

    • @TheReaverOfDarkness
      @TheReaverOfDarkness Před 18 dny

      Yes.
      But...
      The current levels of inflation are actually due to the treasury putting money into circulation faster than it is leaving circulation. They are doing this with payoffs of corporations for which the funding does not come from taxpayer money, but rather is printed straight from the treasury. It is literal theft.
      And then all that other shady dealing stuff on top of it all. The theft and shady crap knows no bounds it seems, and people just vote for whatever politician can pay enough money to convince them to believe whatever lie the corpos are telling this week.

    The first thing that Americans have to learn about is the monetary system, but most of them are ignorant about it, including many politicians. Stephanie Kelton, the economics professor, pointed out in her book "The Deficit Myth" so clearly that fixing the country's problems has nothing to do with a lack of money. The US government is the currency issuer and Congress has the power of the purse. It is a question of who has the power and what kind of country do the powerful want to see.

      Pull back the curtain on who's primarily benefitting. Why do you think those who are fleecing the American people (and have for DECADES on end) feel the need to hire their own armed security and increasingly live in gated fortresses? There's nothing new under the sun.

    The peoples home Speech by Swedish Social democratic prime minister Per Albin Hanson 1928
    founder of the Swedish model (aka Nordic model)
    The good home knows no privileged or disadvantaged, no guinea pigs and no stepchildren.
    There one does not look down on another, there no one tries to gain an advantage at the expense of others, the strong does not oppress and plunder the weak.
    In the good home there is equality, consideration, cooperation, helpfulness.
    Applied to the great national and civic home, this would mean the breaking down of all social and economic barriers, which now divide the citizens into privileged and deprived, into ruling and dependent, into rich and poor, possessed and impoverished, plunderers and plundered.
    Swedish society is not yet the good citizen's home. There is certainly a formal equality here, the equality in political rights, but socially the class society still exists and economically the dictatorship of the few prevails.
    The differences are sometimes glaring; while some live in palaces, many consider it a blessing if they get to stay in their cabins even during the cold winter; while some live in abundance, many go from door to door for a slice of bread, and the poor are anxious for tomorrow where sickness, unemployment, and other misfortune lurk.
    If Swedish society is to become the good citizen's home, the class difference must be removed, social care developed, economic equalization take place, the working people's share also in economic management, democracy implemented and applied also socially and economically.
    This is a vision of the future from almost 100 years ago and Sweden has come a long way from where it was back then
    Maybe AOC and Bernie can adopt this and make there own vision for the future for the USA

    "The Republican and Democratic parties, or, to be more exact, the Republican-Democratic party, represent the capitalist class in the class struggle. They are the political wings of the capitalist system and such differences as arise between them relate to spoils and not to principles." - Eugene V. Debs
    "Capitalism is a system in which the central institutions of society are, in principle, under autocratic control. Thus, a corporation or an industry is, if we were to think of it in political terms, fascist, that is, it has tight control at the top and strict obedience has to be established at every level. [...] Just as I'm opposed to political fascism, I am opposed to economic fascism. I think that until the major institutions of society are under the popular control of participants and communities, it's pointless to talk about democracy." - Noam Chomsky
    "Capitalism’s concept of competitive man who seeks only to maximize wealth and power, who subjects himself to market relationships, to exploitation and external authority, is anti-human and intolerable in the deepest sense" - Noam Chomsky
