  • New video on making scented wax tablets/sachets - to place/hang in your drawers, wardrobes and anywhere you like! These make perfect gifts for your friends and family. These are also very easy to make and best crafts to be made during lockdown times! I hope everyone is well and we can go back to our normal daily lives!! :(
    Wax tablets are scented wax that you can hang around your house, leaving aroma around your house just like candles but without the fire hazards.
    Recipe used in the video:
    Beeswax : Soywax (1:1)
    5-10% Fragrance/Essential oils
    Tips for calculating your total volume:
    1. Find out how much the total volume of your mould weighs
    2. Times that total volume in grams by 0.8 to account for the different density between wax and water. Basically 0.8 is the magic number you multiply your mould cavity volume by to get the weight of the wax you need.
    Other very useful tips when making wax tablets:
    - Let the melted wax cool down a bit before adding in the essential oils or you will denature them and the scent will be lost!
    - Let the wax set up and cool down until you can at least see the borders of the mould before adding your botanicals on top if you want them seen on top of the tablet. They will sink to the bottom if you add it right away especially if they are tiny as the lavender buds.
    Time links in the video
    0:35 Recipe explanation
    0:50 Calculation explanation
    2:04 Preparing the design of the tablets with botanicals
    2:26 Addition of essential oils
    2:37 Pouring of the wax
    2:48 Adding the botanicals on top
    3:37 Unmoulding of the tablets
    3:50 Adding of the eyelets
    4:06 Adding of the ribbon
    4:27 Finished photos
    You can make these just using beeswax or just with soy wax as well! The use of the combination just makes it a harder bar! Stearic acid will make it even harder and longer lasting and I prefer them with the humid area in Hong Kong. You can check out the finish product of using stearic acid in the formula instead of soywax in the previous video: • Scented Wax Tablet 香薰蠟...

    At what temperature add addictive ?

    • @TheScraftworks
      @TheScraftworks  Před 2 lety

      I don’t normally measure the temperature when pouring, as long as all the wax melts then it’s ok to pour. I am not that strict to measure the amounts of each mould but just don’t pour to fill the mould then should not overflow. The temperature you add the additive depends on the flashpoint of the fragrance/essential oil you pick

    • @TheScraftworks
      @TheScraftworks  Před 3 lety

      If you have an irregular shaped mould, I usually pour some water into the mould and measure the weight of the water to see how much volume it holds. Then because wax has a different density than water, I times that weighted amount by about 0.8 to get the volume of the mould. It will really depend on the essential oil blend or fragrance oil blend you choose to use. If you find the scent fading, you can scrap off the wax to release the scent again.
