ER Doc here. Sure, 98% probably according to literature, not a small number health staffers. The only conclusion to draw from that data is to even more intensely engage, reach out, empathize with LGBTQ folks. Condoms appear to be no prevention strategy. Very plausible models assume this is just the first community to be hit (compare MRSA that also circulated in the gay community for a while, then gyms, then further out in society in parallel to homes for the elderly but with "better" reach...I bet you don't think of MRSA as the gay bacteria as a RN ;)

The guy taking different pills to try to break the fever... taking a cool/lukewarm (not cold) bath is far more effective for breaking a fever. I don't know if that's something he tried or not, but putting it out there for anyone else who has a fever and didn't think of it in their sickness.
Breaking a fever isn’t even something you should do. The fever is good, as the virus can’t live inside you at those temperatures. Fever is literally the bodies way of making itself inhospitable for the virus. Too many people are quick to take fever reducers.

My kids pediatrician told me not to give anything for fever unless it got too high because it's nature's way of killing a virus and to also get them into a lukewarm bath if it gets too high

It's interesting this came around after the vaccine. The same thing happened in 1917.

Yes, Monkeypox has been around Africa for a very very long time. If you where born before 1975 chances are you were vaccinated for it. Reinfection is very rare. Most people don’t need any treatment and will clear up in 2-4 weeks

There is no vaccine for monkeypox. The smallpox vaccine is believed to have some preventative effect to some extant, but with smallpox having been extinct for decades, nobody really takes it anymore.

Please don't make the same mistake that the medical community made when they assumed that HIV would only be affecting gay men. This isn't about bisexual visibility in the pride sense, but about getting the outbreak under control as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thank you so much for your comment. I respect people's religious beliefs, but too many who believe this is God coming down and targeting gay people are misguided. I think in terms of spread it has more to do with the sexual method making it easier to spread it, as in HIV. Lesbians seem to be avoiding the bulk of the transmissions so far - guess God is cool with that, I suppose. Also, two gay men without the virus cannot give it to each other, and God won't reach in there to give it to them. Yes, we DO need to be honest in the media about what subpopulation is getting this virus so appropriate precautions can be taken, but we don't need to pass judgment on anybody just because you aren't as likely to contract the virus with the zillion people you bump ulgies with as they are.

During the beginnings of AIDS/HIV, I had a baby and needed a blood transfusion, but they couldn't/wouldn't give me it because of AIDS/HIV getting into blood supplies. They still hadn't figured it out but knew the blood supplies around country were contaminated. Too big of a risk to give transfusions unless absolutely necessary...life or death.
I wonder if this sort of thing is going to happen again. Monkey Pox infected blood getting into the blood supplies. If so, this is going to affect many more than just the gay groups...anybody who needs transfusions or surgeries will be at risk.
