    Thank you so much, Dave! These two models are the ones I´m considering as an upgrade from my four year old 235! I do care about battery life a lot cause I wear my 235 all day and night until it needs a recharge (typically after around 4 days of usage). 500 USD are still a huge amount of money for me personally. I´d prefer these watches costing 300 or less (my 235 cost me $180 back in Dec 2015 on Amazon sale).

    Yeah, crazy pricing for that 945 and I bet it'll also be low again for Black Friday. I also noticed that slight improvement in GPS accuracy. No idea why. Completely agree with your conclusion. Just got my 745 because it’s not too big on a woman’s wrist. The other features of 945 are not necessary for me. I just do some workouts, bodyweight and running (a lot) in the park.
    745 costs around $570 in Thailand while 945 price has been reduced to ~$600.

  • @adambowery2594

    I agree - but sort of don't. You're right that you get more for your money with the 945, but that's only important if you actually use the extra functionality. Most of the people I know who own one NEVER use the map function and never need more than 16hrs batter life with GPS. So if that's the case it comes down to how it looks and wears on your wrist. Unless you have very large wrists, the 745 is a much better fit for most people. If you intend on wearing it all day, every day, I'd say that's the most important factor.

      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 3 lety +1

  • @ChrysusTV
    @ChrysusTV Před 2 lety +1

    I'm a year late but this makes me feel better about buying a 745. Some videos I watched basically said, "the 945 is the same price with more features!" Very new to smart watches and didn't do much research; just wanted a watch that does interval timing and lets me use my Suica, which both of these do. The 945 without RD is $200 more than a 745 with RD here in Japan so that was a deciding factor 🤣 Of course I could have purchased it cheaper overseas but I'm impatient and lazy. So I'm glad hear the 745 performs better in some regards! Also I have small wrists and the 745 already feels quite large. I think if I ever wanted mapping (hiking and camping are in the cards far down the line), I'd probably opt for a fenix anyway; I like the look of those quite a bit.
    (It doesn't help Garmin's site introduces the 945 as: "You're an up-at-dawn runner. A conditioned-for-pain triathlete." I thought, "Nope, that ain't me.")

The price of the 945 bundle and the 745 plus hrm pro are very close, but Imy experience with 735xt in a 400m athletic track are so good, that I don't considered to lost this. I tried another devices, like a martwatchs and several smartphones and the difference is too big. In a 10km running, 1km for warm up, and 20x400m plus 1km for finish, I getting 10% in track size, this is a big difference, running in streets and parks de difference is between 1-3%, depends more how many clouds are in the sky. I was a bit nervous when I picked up the 745, particularly about the battery. Ultimately I did the 745 for the form factor, and think the bezels look bad on the 945. I think there are 2 things that I’ve found in my investigation worth mentioning. 1. Garmin apparently changed the way they advertise gps battery, so the difference isn’t as substantial between the two (945 was overestimated). 2. The 745 has received updates which may have helped with standby battery because I’ve been easily getting 7-8 days with around 1-2 hours of mixed tri training

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure if Garmin has changed their battery rating but I've gotten 25+ hours of GPS activity out of the 945 without a recharge and usually around 10 days to 2 weeks of standby time. Currently owning both I can say without question that the 945 has around 50% more battery life than the 745. Like you said though, if the form factor or looks of the 945 isn't your style and you don't NEED to record exceedingly long single activities the 745 is still a great watch. Lately I've been wearing the 745 daily because I enjoy the form and haven't been running super long distances but if I head the mountains or plan on a long run I'll always reach for the 945 or Fenix 6. Thanks for watching!

Definitely agree that the Fenix and 945 have much better battery life, I guess my point was I don’t think the 745 deserved all the battery life hate that I’ve seen on some channels. Then again Ill also occasionally wear the AW6 and any battery is better than that. I do think at the end of the day I’ll go back to the Fenix 6 for mapping during trail runs and hikes, but man the 745 is the sweet spot for my wrist size. With GoPros, it's straightforward: the GoPro 10 is obviously better, newer, and likely more expensive than the GoPro3. Straightforward and simple. But with Garmin, the model numbers are in the hundreds, and as this video said, the 745 has advantages the 945 lacks. So confusing! idk where to even start narrowing down just which Garmin watch to get.

    Hi Dave, thanks a lot for these great reviews. I was wondering, if all these training features that are related to heartrate, VO2 max, recovery etc. are also available when you are recording cycling data, or just when selecting the running option? Cycling is my main sport; however, there seems to be a lack of hardware where you can track these kind of things, unless you are buying a runner watch.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 3 lety

      Yes it's available for Cycling and Running individually but your rides will need to take place outside with GPS enabled for it to work. Hope that helps!

      @@ChaseTheSummit That does help. I have a headunit for my bike from Wahoo, so I get all the necessary stats from there. But what is missing are all the details you can get from your body....besides the pulse, obviously. Or is there a pulse sensor available that does everything the watch can do? Are you aware of anything? That would be best, these data could be transmitted to the headunit and I wouldn't have to use a heartrate monitor around the chest + the watch + the headunit.

    Hi there Chase! Nice video!
    I got a question though. I run a lot, and I like to run at new places like when I'm on vacation. If I do a run of e.g. 25km, it is difficult to remember by heart which route I chould take. I'm interested in the FR 745. So my questions:
    1- Can you load your own routes on the FR 745? (I think you need to create them using an external device?)
    2- If the answer is yes to question 1: How does the FR745 guides you to follow the route? Does it only show the path (without topographical map like on the 945), and an arrow of your position and orientation on this path? Does it give directions?
    Do you have experience with this and is it easy to follow an own created route?
    Thanks a lot!

      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 3 lety +1

      You can add routes to the 745 but there's no baseman... only a breadcrumb trail indicating your route and position relative to it. If you wander off trail the watch will buzz and tell you you're off track. It's quite intuitive and very similar to how the Fenix and 945 watches act only without the basemap and ability to re-route on the fly. Hope that helps!

      Garmin supports older models for a pretty long time. But they won't release new features to anything older than 1 or 2 years. For instance, the 945 just got a bunch of features from the Fenix 6 in the 5.0 update and it's slated to get some of the 745's new features. That watch launched in early 2019! For older watches like your 5X you'll receive updates to keep it working with Garmin Connect but it won't get any new features. This could be a hardware limitation but it's more likely because Garmin wants to sell newer units. Thanks for watching.
