I recommend creating copies of the Run activity for specific types of runs, such as parkruns, easy runs, long runs. You can then set unique alerts for each type of run, whether you want auto lap alerts, and which data screens you want (and in what order) for each activity. For an easy run, you may be interested in staying in Zone 2, so set a high HR alert for Z2, set the alert frequency to 1 minute and customize a HR zone data screen. For intervals, you may choose to have no alerts, but may want to prioritize pace, power and HR data in one data screen. If you use headphones, you can have most of this data narrated to you without having to look at your watch all the time.

One I recently found was creating a random course.
press on the three dots at bottom right corner (more); press on training and planning then courses.
press "create course" - then "running".
next screen is Drawing Method - press "automatic" - select your distance and direction, and then press next.
It will ask you for your starting position and then it creates a course . Drag up the bottom screen and you can set your pace and/or goal time.

@@Enoch-Root, I go the Coros Apex as I started running (2.5 years ago) and switched to Garmin 255 last December. I really loved the Garmin Coach as it brought me to structured running training. I am currently subscribed to one of the coaches there directly, so I don’t use their feature directly.
I guess it depends on what we want from our watches, but I am happy I’ve switched to Garmin when I did. Sometimes is hard to know which features are personally useful until you try them.
I really PacePro as well, although I used it only twice as a pacer.

    • @LuNa4Death
      @LuNa4Death Před měsícem

@@Enoch-Root that's fair, but also let's put it this way. If they do other brands it will show an unbiased opinion and if Garmin is the better option for features then it will let us as viewers (consumers) see it for ourselves plus sprinkle in additional credibility to their videos. Although, lets be real, I trust them with my training so I do trust their opinions very much already. 💃🏼

Another battery saver for long runs when navigating is the track orientation - the default is to always track up (so that the heading big always points in the direction of travel, but this causes the screen to redraw a lot more often). Change it to "track north", which means that 12 o'clock on your watch is always North. Takes a bit of getting used to when running in a southerly direction but it saves some battery life 😉😎

@@AckerQ. I thought someone had done but a quick search seems to mostly throw up anecdotal evidence, so I may give it a try at some point as I am genuinely intrigued. I much prefer track up but it seems to make sense that constant screen redraws would drain the battery more than just redrawing the pointer and moving the screen according to distance travelled, but I use track north just to save battery life. I'd love to know how much battery I'm saving 🤔😊

    - when turning on the flashlight you can adjust the brightness instantly.
-you can adjust short keycommands so if u like to take a screenshot by holding stop and up button. Or turn on touch by pressing start and down both at once.
-you can enter emergency contacts so garmin can contact them if something happens to you.
-%hrr zones was good to switch to instantly.
-you have to manually switch pulse ox measures rather than opt out.
-you can have stamina and potential stamina on the watchface when running.
-pace pro functionality took a while before i tried it.
-sometimes i forget to turn off the activity (if it happens to be discgolf or something other than running) and you can easily crop it afterwards.

I recently upgraded from a 255 to a 955, mainly for the full mapping, which is fantastic. But the 955 has some odd quirks. For example, its default Sleep setup was to go into Battery Saver mode, which turns off the HR monitor. I knew about the alerts and I’ve tried to get my watch (Venu 3) to alert me every km with my pace but it does it out the watch speaker and not through my earphones 🙃

Can’t count the number of times I’ve pressed the lap button without meaning to. Thanks for that tip.

I really wish that Garmin would add "time only" on the training target. Sometimes I don't want to do a set distance in a time, but just to run for 60 or 90 minutes, It would be great to have this on the screen as a countdown so that you can turn round on an out and back, as well as see how many kms you're covering.

There's a timer which you can access through the "light" menu and I use it all the time for brewing tea, boiling eggs etc

Maybe I'm missing it, but it looks like the Drop Pin and share with Garmin Connect is missing in Android. Not that it matters much, the one or two times I've used this, I just kept my phone in my hand, but having the option would be nice.

I'm trying to figure out the gear feature. It would be useful to automatically track shoe use against different types of runs. I have 'base' and 'interval' activities setup on my watch and generally use different shoes for these. When it comes to setting a default for the gear(shoe) I only have the one option on my fenix which is 'running' . So it doesn't appear possible to have it setup to assign different shoes to different activities automatically unless I'm missing something? Thanks.

Only recently learned that if you double press the light up button (top left) the watch becomes a torch with adjustable red or white light (forerunner 965)
