    So nice to have access to the shop, hoist, welders and specialized tools. That’s the perfect choice to spray all that metal. Just an outstanding job of customizing the back of your truck. I think I’d want to go double-wide on your car loading ramps if they weren’t too heavy. Driving off the side would be a nightmare. 👍👏

    Looks good. I rebuilt most of the flatbed on my trk to suit my needs it aint pretty. I need to take my bed off to finish it out. Some changes and some fixes. I did all my mig welding outside. What a pain. Im hoping to be able to buy my own house in 2021 and i want a barn to store tractor in and be nice for winter if trk could fit in also otherwise if need to work on trk to be able to kick tractor out. I would like to insulate it also with maybe a small heater to keep off chill but i also have a torpedo if doing work in real cold. When im able to finish i want a nice paint job. I want a flat black look for non body panels like bed, front bumper, mirrors,door handles, rims. No to chrome. Its a working cab n chassis trk no need for shiny

    Howdy Aaron and Tina,
    I waited to comment until you were done with this task, GREAT, well done. It's wonderful that you had family who have a huge shop and all the tools needed to build your deck, I wish I had had such a shop to work in when my deck was built. I remember whilst boon docking near Quartszite we talked about Smart Car, decks and then things started to happen. You found a trailer that you wanted, then you found the hitch, when we parted last spring you were just beginning to look for an a Smart Car and HDT, and now you have the "full meal deal". Welcome to the club of HTD'ers that haul a Smart Car, on the truck. Your going to LOVE IT.

    Good video. I used the raptor liner for my Ram... problem was It took a lot to cover since the bed was white. I’ve had some chipping but I think it’s because I didn’t have enough for a 2nd coat. I got another kit and one of these days I plan on layering it a couple light coats which think will fix my issues

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  Před 3 lety

      I am at the same point with mine. It covered great but it really does need a second coat. I underestimated how much product it would require. I'll get another kit too and do mine maybe next summer when I'm back in MO. :) Safe Travels

    Is there room under the sides of the bed to tie any supports to the truck frame? Looks like the bed overhangs the frame about two feet or so on each side, although it you aren't loading anything heavier than the smart car then it would probably never be an issue.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  Před 2 lety +1

      The bed sits on 2 4x4 running the length of the bed and a 2.5x2.5 cross support every 24 inches so you're right, the smart car isn't nearly heavy enough to causer any issues and I doubt I'll ever load anything heavy enough to require extra supports. So far so good :) Safe Travels

      @JonesN2Travel  Před 3 lety

      Thank you. Yes, I really liked the spray on liner. I'll probably do another coat or two later on. I may have under estimated how much it would take :) For now its drive on but i can always modify it later and add a winch setup. Driving it on doesn't bother me at all at this point but I may still want to winch it on someday. Thanks for checking out the video. Safe Travels

    Sitting here in New Zealand watching all your videos, I did wonder why steel deck, I would use 32mm industrial ply like you use for the bottom on a container. Any reason? We hope to return to Canada and do something similar if covid let’s us travel. Safe travelling guys, and big thanks for the videos.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  Před 3 lety

      Hi Ian. I'm not sure we even have access to that industrial ply and if we do I don't know where to get it. The steel will last almost indefinitely through all types of climates here in the states and its strong enough to hold the smart car. I don't see any reason not to use the ply you mention but I don't have any experience with it :) Thanks for following along from New Zealand, we appreciate you. Safe Travels

      @JonesN2Travel  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Frank. I haven't seen that yet but I'll check it out. If you have the right welder then you probably could. The steel is pretty heavy duty so you want to make sure you get good penetration on your welds. Personally I would get someone to do the frame work just to be safe. :) Hope that helps. Safe Travels
