The most important thing we learn in this episode: Riker can hold his liquor better than everyone else.
Now, if only they actually used that to his advantage in future episodes. There are all loads of plot elements you could build around that character trait.
"This episode let me warm up to a few of the characters"
That is literally the exact reason the original series episode "The Naked Time" was made, and why they felt it could serve the same purpose for The Next Generation. Its too bad characters in Engineering are one-offs we never see again.
This season is Next Gen trying to find it's footing and making the mistake of pulling from it's predecessor. So many TOS fans really ripped into this reimagination of Trek so I guess TNG was trying to say; "Hey, remember that fun episode THE NAKED TIME? We can do that too."
Also, get ready for a slew of Chief Engineers this season, evidently they pull numbers from a hat on the Enterprise to see who'll be down there every week.
Denise Crosby was in the film Pet Sematary (1989) is you want to see her in a cinema appearance.
"The Naked Time" is top notch, 10x better acting, 10x better story, 10x better production, 10x better directing, 10x better musical score. TNG season 1 is painful to watch, but part of season 2 is good and then most of season 3 are good.
This episode is a call-back to a TOS episode you'll be reacting to at some point soon. I think that by watching TOS and TNG concurrently you may run into a few call-backs that won't make sense until you've seen the corresponding TOS episode.
I love this episode, it's my favourite of this Season, i probably love it so much because i also love the TOS episode this was following on from.

I think this is a fun riff on a classic TOS tale. TNG does get even better, though! If you enjoyed this, I think you're really gonna love this show as it goes on!

If you're planning to watch the whole series and not just the "top episodes" like some channels do, then I'm in. I'll watch every single one. People make the mistake of skipping "the 'bad' first seasons" or only watching "pivotal" episodes and they miss the JOURNEY which is what Star Trek is all about. Not just the big plot points, but the character and show development inbetween. We cannot possibly appreciate the good parts to their fullest without seeing its humble beginnings and low points.
I completely agree if I did just the good bits I’m not getting the full experience

10:02 Please look for a video "All Around the World" by Lisa Stansfield. It's a late 80's music video, I think you will get a kick out of how Stansfield looks similar to Tasha here. Keep in mind also, this episode came out first. 😊

Denise Crosby posed for Playboy around the time she took the role of Tasha Yar, it caused quite a stir when the photos were published after the premier of the show. Still easily found if one were to look for them.

That's why you need to watch TOS first. Lots of throwbacks to the Original.
This is true but it will be something to look forward too :)
While it is certainly true that the series gets better as we go, season three and continuing, the first seasons are vital for character development. It's a fairly large main cast, so I understand why you didn't warm up to everyone right off. Trust me, you'll get there.

Great reaction I’m glad you’re having fun. I love this episode because I love Tasha. She’s my favorite but it’s a great episode. Assemble back in the day went out. Didn’t like it because it was too much like the original series episode but I thought it was done much better, but they’re both good. I hope you can appreciate. Both shows technology and people are giving more to Member show is from the 60s so we can only do what they had to do with that as much lower budget but they’re better actor I think in the series I love the new guys, but there’s nothing but the old series just got, that wouldn’t be any more. Star Trek guys are fabulous thanks for the fun until next time
For about the first six episodes or so Councillor Troi calls Commander Riker Bill instead of Will which sounds odd. Thank God she switches permanently to Will after that.

the first two seasons are kinda a hard watch but it gets rly good with season 3 xD
It was fun, but I think it was just a lot of "sexy" stuff for the 80's audience. There are a few episodes like that.

Did someone spoil it for you about this being a TOS connection in a previous comment before/while you are watching this one? Kinda annoys me ... I get that people want to share their Trek love with you, but I wish you could watch through an episode without people giving you a "primer" like that :/ It's like if 100 people told you that Star Trek 2 was the best movie, that would color your view of it. Anyway though, super fun reaction as always dude!

@royroblox out of maybe 72 video thumbnails 60+ is an odd mouth open "fake" looking photo of him. I like his videos but I really don't like disingenuous clickbait photos of him in the thumbnail. Hell he uses the same photo multiple times! LOL
Real is always better than fake.
@@DoomMonkey8 I agree about real over fake and normally do hate any over the top thumbnail photo, but since he's watching some top notch Trek and giving some damn good reaction entertainment, I am happy to look the other way :) I think reactors have to do whatever they can do get on the front page so have to go extreme sometimes.
This one is... I think you will look back and understand why this season is not well thought of by fans. 😂 It's problem comes down to aping directly a TOS episode as well as getting our characters out of "character" before we even know them. A definite misfire of this season.
