Salvaging generally means saving what you can, if I’m not mistaken Given that his job is cleaning it, not doing a full restoration, he did about as much as he could without stepping out of his comfort zone (seemingly)
@@casper14301 in the realm of cars, there’s this thing called a “salvage” title that means the vehicle is repaired and restored to a close to new as possible. I work with attorneys and insurance companies everyday. I assure you that I know what I’m talking about 😂
@@joeymcguire8742 Nobody is talking about a salvage title, because this is *not* about insurances. This is about a guy cleaning a wheel to the best of his abilitites and trying to save what he can. It's not a healthy habit to take everything so literally. He used a word and it works.
I will never understand how people neglect their vehicles so much. Being a car enthusiast, I know I'm in the minority of the vehicle-owning population as far as car cleanliness (perfection) goes, but at least send your car through an automatic wash once every month or 2.
@Jinxks no disagreement there. I meant for the non-enthusiasts that never care for their cars properly, an automatic wash every once in a while is the LEAST they should do.

It's always the Dodge wheels that are always the nastiest because the nastiest people own them. Ever heard of rotating your tires every once in 8 billion miles.
That is brake dust, simple brush and dawn soap id have most of that off 10 min, my inside of the wheel looks cleaner then his outside of his wheel. I wouldn't call my self a detail geek and leave a wheel looking like that.
You can take off all of the residue but it takes a shit load of time and a really high ph mag cleaner. I did one couple weeks ago and it was a pain lol
Here in Germany we have "AluTeufel" (AluDevil) and after 3 passes even these Rims will be like Brandnew. We used it on burnt in Mercedes Rims. BUT: Only useable with long sleeve Gloves because that Stuff is so incredible Acidic your whole arms will Itch. Afterward thouroughly rinse and everything is fine.
I cleaned a friend's car at the weekend, their wheels were the worst ever, could not remove the baked on dirt/ brake dust, so i used soap pads, after checking with them that it might leave slight scratches, I got it all off. 👊
When it comes to Wheels like that that have been heavily neglected I always do a wheel off. Meaning I take the wheel completely off the vehicle and I clean them up inside and out. Getting all of the brake dust and debris off. Which also means I usually use a much stronger acid on them
never leave your tire this bad bc as you can see it leaves bad stains that marks the tire and imagine the back of the tire, watch ChrisFix he shows you how to fix stuff like this
That is NOT a salvage, that's technically not even spot free! A deep clean, sure, but there was no curb rash or damage repair performed, let alone a completely spot free cleaning.
This is easy compare to chrome plated rims used many years without cleaning. Anyone who has ever done it knows how many hours it takes to do such a renovation.
Brake dust that has oxidized. Neglected rims after so long get like this. Hotter the climate - the worse it appears. Usually requires an acid to fully remove off.
The resadue left behind me could actually be fixed with polish and a clay bar, the only way it couldn’t have been fixed is if brake fluid somehow got on it
Hey @thedetailgeek ! As a detailer let me share my experience with you. In my opinion you used too much chemical (that was too weak) on very neglected wheel ultimately leading to wasting chemical. What I would do would be using the right chemical with lesser amount - the one that works for me well is Koch Chemie Felgenreiniger extrem. With low PH you simply: - rinse and clean the wheel first - spray on “FE” - let it sit and desolve the imbedded “crust” for 1-2 min - rinse off This way you minimize the efford and time needed for deep cleaning the wheel. I honestly thought those wheels were bronzed!
Yep btw giving u first comment
i thought them were two tone wheels
me too
Bronze was better according to me 😅😅
Me tooooo!
“Salvaging” is a pretty strong word considering the final results. They look a million times better, but they don’t look salvaged.

How would you know it's a pretty strong word when you don't even know the definition?
I agree lol 😂

You need wheel acid to remove that caked on gunk.
Laquer thinner
Legend says he’s still adding soap to this day
🤣🤣😂
😂😂😂
LMMFAO!!!!
I do basic detailing. Started using that system to get wheels cleaned up. Friends and clients love it. Thank you for sharing.
I bet your customer was pissed that her rims weren’t gold anymore
i cant tell if ur joking or if your serious
Some people legitimately forget what their vehicle looks like if they haven’t seen it in a while
legend says still trying to clean this wheel
Man I was waiting to see something amazing. I honestly thought by the grace of Odin, you were gonna get those things spotless.
bruh how ignorant 😂

Dude that Wheel Cleaner really sucks ....
When you take a shower and and you leave your nails full of dirt 🤦🏻♂️😂 brother, finish the cleaning…don’t be lazy !! 🧼
Dude those parts are rusted and corroded

OK thought the wheels was bronze and it wasn't too bad, but jeez, so dirty to be a completely different colour
I seriously thought it was just a bronze wheel
Facts
I just said the same thing!! 😂

Yep and if shit hits the fan, wet sand...peeled wheel clear will look better than that caked on dust
So satisfying. But I would've just put some purple power on it and scrub it and rinse
You didn't use iron/fallout remover
At that point I would probably remove the wheels and deep clean them but the results were satisfying
I didn't know those wheels were like dirty dirty.
Great technique Mitch.
Can't polish a turd

Was washing a regulars car last week and their neighbor last week, whos car ive also detailed, yelled out this same thing to me lmao
Is there a full video of it?
Ok but why’d they look better before 😂😂 thought they were goldish/bronze finish lol
i thought the wheel was a golden color oh my word!!
ever use acid? we did when i detailed cars. aluminium wheels look brand new after

u could clay bar the wheel next and get most of it out ❤
Oh my goodness... this just hit my soul 😁❤️
I thought it wasn't that bad until it changed colors.
That's a huge change man! Unbelievable!
If you repeat the proces they should come clean? Or is it not possible to get them clean?
Nice job! So asmr!
Acid is answer.
Mitch using an high pressure washer … stay clean, dry shoes dry hand 🤩🤩
Me Triyin’ same … wet from head to feet
those residual stains are from brake dust i’d assume so some mguires all wheel cleaner with iron in it should make EASY work of it
In that case could be sanded up and polish ,will this work ?
What spray did you use to remove the color ?

I DON'T GET HOW PEOPLE LET THEIR CAR GET THAT HORRIBLY BAD THAT'S A HUGE SHAME AND EMBARRASSMENT
Show us all 4 wheels at once!! 🤩🤩
Should of used an Acid cleaner or brightner would of restored them to their original look from all that break dust.
Acid diluted 4/1 would have taken the rest of that off easily. Been my go to for 10 years would look new
Nice job sir
If you take a wire brush to it that will bring it back to normally color with no damage just did mine
I cleaned a friend's car at the weekend, their wheels were the worst ever, could not remove the baked on dirt/ brake dust, so i used soap pads, after checking with them that it might leave slight scratches, I got it all off. 👊

Looked better golden tbh
Thought I was looking at a WRX STI wheel at first. Not sure the wheel is finished though..
I thought those were bronzed, but how do you get the super caked stuff off of them?
Clean then repaint
Man i know you but it looks like that salvaging wasnt ina budget at all 😂
My dumbass thougt wheels were supossed to be gold
Easy off oven cleaner works really well

В вашей стране ещё не изобрели пескоструй и краскопульт с печкой?
Maybe the steel brake powder got to a point where it ate through the paint and the wheels need new powder coating
😊how beautiful!
It's still dirty, or what's the black thing on the rim supposed to be?

What wheel attachment was that on the drill?
250 degree heat 8gal per min 3500 psi and aluminum bright chop chop aluminum bright from napa guys incase you to know where to buy
I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE ACTUAL COLOUR ☠️
What rez did you get this from? damn!
Why are you using a buffer to scrub it?
That's way past cleaning, time for a refurb
Where do you get your music, I could ride to this all day👌🏾👌🏾
At that point I'd have just left it, it almost looks worse now.
I been scrubbing mine 2 days😢
When you going to finish???
Yeah he doesn’t know how to detail lmfao
Have you tried Aluminum Brightener on that, and put it in a spray bottle?

Paint thinner will get the rest off then polish. Good as new.

I would think spraying one little area at a time then scrubbing would be more effective and save on cleaner. What a waste.
Jesus and thought it was meant to be gold
Why not remove the wheels from the car cause remember debri and dirt behind the rim also
What type of brush?
use acid to get the rest off.
All that caked on brake dust….
Wow 😯
Use iron remover
i thought they were bronze rims :-O
You need to use hydrofluoric acid (Rim acid) that rim would look new afterwards.
Where's the salvaging? You only cleaned it!
