This was interesting. I as a white woman find the kente patterns to be beautiful and fascinating, nice to get some of the historical context of these patterns. I have a kente wrap around skirt that was gifted to me but it was woven on modern looms. I would like to see if I can find actual handwoven kente cloth and maybe buy some.

They are from a town called bonwire in the Ashanti Region. This was just a documentary about kente . We don't make them.

    Thank you n greetings o.
Originally its called: Kete. Ke=Open, Te=Close. So the way its woven its Open and Close technic thats why its called Kete Not Kente. Even though, now a days everyone says Kente. Thank you o. All the best.

Who told you that lie??? The name Kente was derived from Kente a hand woven basket.

Wrong! First Kente was made by the Ewe, who are still the best. Do you really believe that A spider taught the Asanti?

That's what I heard. A different Akan group who were subjugated by the Ashanti taught them how to make it.

@S E Pnext you'll be saying adinkrah was made by Asanti. smh.

In all honesty, Kente/Kete was most likely made by some more ancient civilisation, and Akan Ewe etc are just the inheritors of this craft.
