Fun fact! Quentin has only three kids. He barely exceeds the US average of 2.4. The Mormon average is 3.4. He also waited 4 years after getting married before having his first kid. Assuming that there were no fertility issues, he may need to get off his high horse.

After a temple marriage at age 19 I left the Mormon church some time ago.
I am English too like Samantha and met my American husband while he was on his mission. After he became addicted to cocaine and meth after we had 4 children I left him. I felt judged by a patriarchal system. I am glad I left and only one of my children is still active.
Samantha and Tanner you are wonderful and I hope your work helps others who are disillusioned about the church.
You are grounded, obviously well informed and articulate. You are clearly young people trying to live a good life and want to help others. I admire you both, you make us think and make us smile. Thank you both.

Jan Parkes honestly I’m by no means huge into feminism, but it is blatantly obvious that Mormonism treats women terribly. Honestly everyone should know that. Women are always expected to play the submissive dutiful wife, and are looked down upon for being independent and making their own decisions. It affects everyone negatively in some way whether they realize it or not (except those in power). And if you’re a guy who doesn’t want to go on a mission, people will judge you relentlessly.

How do Mormons account for Jesus's first miracle - turning water into wine? The way that biblical narrative structure works, the "first" of anything is critically important to the underlying message. At least that is what I learned in my theology classes.
_Side note for Sam_ - I heard once, don't know how reliable it is, that there is a theory that when Joseph & Mary took Jesus and fled to Egypt - (the "lost" years) that they actually kept going. And wound up on the fringes of India - thus Jesus was influenced by Buddhism. I can't remember where I heard this - but nevertheless it is an intriguing theory how his message aligned so closely to far eastern ideologies - accounting for why New Testament Jesus is *so* different from Old Testament "Angry" Dad. Though I lean more towards questioning the historicity of Jesus.

Hey, Molly. I know you posted this 3 years ago. Just thought I'd still chime in, because it is still relevant. Also evidence of the thought control that happens in the LDS membership. Those missionaries more likely honestly thought what they were teaching about paid ministry was accurate.
TBMs are so inundated with misdirection, that they are taught to believe anything and everything that a leader states. Think the Kenobi quote with the hand wave, "These are not the droids you're looking for." Same thing when it comes to every-day members...
Members are actively taught that *all* leadership positions in their church are volunteer, unpaid positions. The living "stipend" of the Q15 is either not discussed or adamantly ignored in typical church settings. If it is brought up, it is conveniently re- and mis-directed to a more faith-affirming topic.
I'm not active in the church anymore. But, as a missionary 10 years ago, I did tell people that no leader was paid. Because that is what I honestly "knew" and was taught my entire life. It wasn't until 3 years ago that I found out that the Q15 earn an annual income because of their "lifetime service."
That was kind of the start to me asking the real questions that weighed my "shelf" eventually to a breaking point. Their mind control tricks (*cough* -lies) no longer work on me.

I just wanted to thank you guys because doubting / losing faith in the church is a very difficult time , yet you guys are really helping me keep a light heart about it and not let it make me feel like some lost puppy that God abandoned. Helping me laugh about it, and just stop judging myself for doubting and having problems with so many things in the church. It's so easy to feel like you're going to be "lost" without the church (because they convince you there's no happiness outside of it- which is just so not true) and I just am very grateful that I can just watch these videos and try to just be happy and not treat myself like I'm some evil apostate... I'm getting around to finally trusting myself, being myself, thinking for myself, and breaking free.
You guys should make a video (maybe mormonforcement themed?) about how the church likes to be like "one of the greatest blessings of the church is you get to be with your family forever!" yet that's totally the opposite for converts who's family are not also converts. It's like "well you get to visit them..." -.- or "being in the celestial kingdom is worth it you won't even care once you're there." ..
p.s. I showed the missionaries your apostle bad lip reading and they laughed

    Quitting the Mormon Church (Unabridged)
I have been thinking of quitting the Mormon Church. Yes, if I can, I am going to get even with that church. As soon as I can find another church that teaches about the Gathering of the House of Israel; the return of the Ten Tribes and their mission; the return of the Jews to Palestine and why, and how they are going to build the temple; the building of temples and what to do with them; the mission of Elias, the prophet, as predicted by Malachi; the method for the salvation of the people that died at the time of Noah in the flood; the origin of the American Indian; the complete explanation of why Jesus of Nazareth had to have a mortal mother but not a mortal father; the explanation of the three degrees of glory (three heavens) as mentioned by Paul; the complete explanation of why Elias and Moses did not die but had to be translated (since they both lived before the resurrection was introduced by Christ); the restoration of the gospel by modern revelation as promised by Peter and Paul and Jesus himself; the belief in eternal marriage and the family, and the knowledge and the place to seal for eternity; that teaches abstinence from all harmful drugs and foods; and that sells the best fire insurance policy on earth, for the last days, for only a tenth of my income.
Yes sir, as soon as I can find another church that teaches all that, or even half as much, I will say good-bye to this Mormon Church. The church that I am looking for must also be able to motivate 90,000+ youth, and adults, for the first, second or third time, to leave their homes for two years at their own expense and go to far-away places to teach and preach without salary. It must be able to call, on a frosty day, some 5 or 6 thousand professors, students, lawyers, doctors, judges, policemen, businessmen, housewives and children to go and pick apples at 6 am. It must be able to call meetings and get the attention for two hours of more than 300,000 men. Yes, it must also teach and show why salvation is assured for children who die before eight years of age.
Mr. Editor, could you help me find a church that teaches all that and more than hundreds of other doctrines and principles, which I have no room to mention here, and which brings solace and comfort to the soul; peace, hope, and salvation to mankind, and above all, that answers the key questions that all the great philosophers have asked; questions and answers that explain the meaning of life, the purpose of death, suffering and pain; the absolute need for a Redeemer and the marvelous plan conceived by our Father and executed by Jesus Christ the Savior? Yes, as soon as I find another church that teaches that, and also that has the organization and the powers to make that teaching effective, I am going to quit the Mormon Church.
For I should not tolerate that “they” should change a few words in the Book of Mormon - even if those changes simply improve the grammar and the syntax of the verses - for, after all, don’t you think the Divine Church should employ angels as bookmakers, and clerks, to do all the chores on earth? Don’t you think, Mr. Editor that the Divine Church should also have prophets that don’t get sick and don’t get old and die, and certainly, that don’t make a goof here and there. No, sir! A Divine Church should be so divine that only perfect people should belong to it, and only perfect people should run it.
As a matter of fact, the Church should be so perfect that it should not even be here on earth!
So, I repeat, if any one of the kind readers of this imperfect letter knows about another church that teaches and does as much for mankind as the Mormon Church, please let me know. And please do it soon, because my turn to go to the cannery is coming up. Also, “they” want my last son (the fifth one) to go away for two years and again, I have to pay for all that. And I also know that they expect me to go to the farm to prune trees, and I have heard that our ward is going to be divided again, and it is our side that must build the new chapel. And also, someone the other day had the gall of suggesting that my wife and I get ready to go on a second mission, and when you come back, they said, you can volunteer as a temple worker. Boy, these Mormons don’t leave you alone for a minute. And what do I get for all that, I asked? “Well,” they said, “for one, you can look forward to a funeral service at no charge!”… Do you think you can help me to find another church?
    Thomas D. Clark

Lmao, Quentin saying that the third child most likely not been born undermines the fact that there are couples in the US who have medical procedures to get pregnant and those procedures yield more than one child in that pregnancy. So, he thinks what, most families in the US have one child per pregnancy, despite the existence of these procedures and that one single child isn't always the result of sex.

Bottom line: I find it ironic that the Lord's anointed/elect do not even understand the wholesome, unrefined, full Word of Wisdom - which is NOT a commandment, and IS a warning of Gadiantons counterfeiting endless wholesome foods and herbs (verse 2 and 4) and that by perverting that, and the thousands of Do's, and refining that wholesomeness all down to only 4 don't's is quite perverted and evil???
How do we get the wonderful promises in verses 18-21 if we just missed the whole point, ignore Christ's own words and follow a man instead, as commanded, by whom...? Not by commanded by Christ, for sure.

Ok please don't take this as a criticism, just a note on the opioid topic. Great I'll look like I'm a Mormon depressed mom. I'm not I promise. Heroin and fentanyl are the highest percentage of deaths. Legally prescribed opioids for pain are very low percent of deaths or addiction. If taken for mood, you are more likely to become addicted. Just bringing this up cuz many of us who have been on long term stable doses for years, for pain that w5çould otherwise cause us to be bedridden and in agony, are slowly losing their meds because of the misinformation. VETS and others are suiciding as their meds are removed and no way to cope with pain. just a heads up so you'll know to look past the headline. The veil. The hogwash. Etc.

Zelph On the Shelf so what about what he did Get right then? How is that possible? How would he know about culture and ways of life that he had never learned about? He translated over 65 days or 8 pages a day. My question to you would be what was he translating? How did he know about South American Temples that have many of the same teachings on them? Are we to say a boy made this all up in his head and the witnesses who left the church by the way testified of the book? What was this book, where did it come from, and how did he translate any of it. If you handed me a Chinese book I couldn’t translate the first sentence. I would like to know how you get over the more simple facts of what took place here?

While I agree what you say, (to me) it seems immature to drink, etc. in the face of what you are mocking. I don't understand why some former Mormons find it necessary to openly flaunt how they rebel. It feels fake. Just do your stuff as an adult without making it painfully obvious you are only goofing with stupid Mormon rules. It's like that dumb woman who has tattoos all over and touts being a Mormon to bust stereotypes. I'd watch a lot more and more seriously without the yammering, giggling, and buzzed mocking. FYI smoking marijuana is not medicinal. Cannabis for medical use most often has not THC and is oral. Oh well, I hope teens enjoy.
