The Wanderer is other Awesome song by Dion !!
"love came to me" is also a cool song.
Dion & The Belmonts did some great "jitterbug" songs. He's also had a pretty decent solo career: the song Abraham, Martin and John is probably the most popular.
Harri, You really need to listen to Abraham, Martin and John.
Actually he released a tune with Boz Scaggs & the Menza brothers this year kinda blues rock - still kicking it! “I’ve Got To Get To You”
This is Dion's solo career?
He's over 80 and married to same woman close to 60 years. Nice
Her name is Sue!!
@@passover77xD
Dion is called "The King of Doowop", also he's in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
This and The Wanderer are two of my favorite “oldies” songs. They’re so catchy and have great lyrics. Dion was a killer.
Still killing it ( really) check his 2021 releases on CZcams !
Dion was a killer
Some of that early 60's music was fun rock n roll!
The Wanderer is my FAV of his!
The other side of this song is another called Wanderer. It is perhaps a type of karma to each other.
He was the Wanderer, and she was Runaround Sue.
Dion DiMucci --- street corner singer to hit maker songwriter.
He has been married to his Runaround Sue since 1963! Dion was scheduled to be on the plane the day the music died. Also Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on that flight. RIP Richie Valens, Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly. That was Dion and the Belmonts. They have several great songs!
Yes. He backed out because he couldn't afford the $36. for the flight. He said that was the same cost as his parents monthly rent in the Bronx.
@@johnj2763 we read the same articles! I like knowing bits of otherwise worthless trivia.
@@MommaBird52 That one was actually widely known, he mentioned it in interviews over the years.
This was pre the British Invasion. We loved this in High School and at house parties and pretty much everywhere. Thanks, been years.
This was a great song to dance to. It was based on the jitterbug, but we just called it fast dancing. This really takes me back. His other really great song was the Wanderer. It expressed the same sentiment as Ricky Nelson's Travelin' Man. As one witch said to the other witch: Men. You can't live with 'em, you can't turn 'em into jackasses. You'll understand that when you hear the lyrics.
I remember jitterbugging to this at a sock hop in the school gym. Wow, the memories.
Dion is one of the greats!
Ruby Baby is another great one.
Hello Harri, Dion's back-up group was the Belmonts and they were actually a great doo-wop street-corner singing group.
Some of Dion’s early songs are listed as Dion and the Belmonts. Their most well known hit would have to be “Teenager in Love”
The 50s and early 60s just was a time of innocence simple lyrics and catchy arrangements with singers & bands that could deliver fine memories 🇬🇧👍
And they had to have a good beat that you could dance to 💃 like rate a record on American Bandstand 😊☮️🌼♥️😎
next do the wanderer.....that will explain Sue!!!
Abraham , Martin & John is a great song / The Wanderer (live) ☮️💜
His "The Wanderer" is an even better song, where instead of the girl running around, it is the guy who loves them and leaves them. Completely different is his "Abraham, Martin and John". Dion (and the Belmonts) had tons of hits, "A Teenager in Love", "This Little Girl", and the song that launched 1000 Italian-American doo-wop groups, "I Wonder Why".
Never yet seen anyone able to stay still while this record plays. One of the best!
Sue was the most popular girl's name for songs during this era. Peggy Sue - Buddy Holly: Suzie Q - Dale Hawkins:
Sue's Gotta Be Mine - Del Shannon: Wake Up Little Suzie - The Everly Brothers: Susie Darlin' - Robin Luke
Yes Dion did some great songs. Try "Donna the Prima Donna" by Dion. A brilliant song, but not too well known here in the UK
Dion was AMAZING 🤩
He sang with a group, Dion and the Belmonts. Kind of like Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
YOur reactions are so fun!
This was " my song " when in one of my groups where everyone was required to sing at least one song. It was a lot of fun to sing.
I remember this from my brother listening to it....LOL!! (in my dreams) Thanks Harri ~Ginny
Dion has new music coming out in Nov. Some awesome ppl join him on the album 🎶🎵
Check out the WANDERER BY Dion
Thx Harri! There are so many songs about Susan! Two faves are “wake up lil’ Susie,” by the Everly brothers, and “Susie Q,” by CCR! Also Glen Campbell did “ Where’s the playground Susie?” Thx again and keep up the good work! -Terry
Man harri this got me off my ass and dancing. And yes my name is Carolyn sue. Luv ya harri😘
Dion also has several really good Christian LPs. I just like his voice and the Belmonts were a great back up group. This song has a great groove to it. Harri I needed this song tonight. Feeling kinda down and this tune picked me up!
Dion & The Belmonts and Dion solo are some of the best pop standards in existence. Check out the song “A Teenager In Love,” billed under the Dion & The Belmonts name.
New York's Dion DiMucci (another Italian rocker like Bobby Darin & Bobby Rydell) continues to perform & record to this day as an excellent blues artist. His latest album is filled with blues giants performing with him.
He's 83 now and is probably the last man standing from the 50s recording artists (except for maybe Willie Nelson). He was famous also for the recording "Abraham, Martin & John."
Harri, I'm in bed watching your reactions dancing my butt off.💃. You have to boogie when you hear this song & wanderer.💞💞💞💞
This is a great Era to explore - please keep checking it out!!
Stay safe and Carry On!!
Duke of Earl
Dion is singing about a girl Sue he met in 1957, dated and married in March in 1963 he wrote the song with his friend Ernie Maressca, they are still married and celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary next month.
Dion was a part of the billing on the Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & Big Bopper tour. He was on the bus headed to the next show when the plane went down killing the others. There is a nice interview with him on youtube talking about the experience if you are interested.
This was 1961. It was the only time he hit #1 but he had 10 top 10 hits. Just couldn't get over the hump to the top again.
Dion is now 82 years old & put out a new album last year called, 'Blues with Friends'. Maybe check out something from that.
“The Wanderer” is worth a listen! ☮️🌼♥️
You should check out the very famous viral video of "Old Lady Dancing to Runaround Sue", super-cute!
Love the song. His song the wanderer is a great song
Used to love dancing to that song.
How about “Put Your Head On My Shoulder “ by Paul Anka?
Dion was once a part of the Belmonts, but Dion had gone solo prior to this recording. He used the Del Satins as a backing group for this and a couple of his other hit songs. That is the reason the artist is just listed with his name. The Del Satins later joined with Johnny Maestro and another instrumental group to create "The Brooklyn Bridge" in about 1966 or 67. Brooklyn Bridge had a wonderful sound also, and a number of tunes you may enjoy. Also look for a group called "The Crests" with Johnny Maestro, a similar group to what you are listening to here.
Ruby Baby & The Wanderer are amongst several amazing Dion or Dion with the Belmonts songs....
Dion is still putting out great music - blues. In fact, he has a new album coming out in December. From his prior album 'Blues With Friends' "I Got Nothin'" featuring Van Morrison & Joe Louis Walker - czcams.com/video/bK9FWlz6GMQ/video.html
Dion and the Belmonts were a doo-wap group--Dion was given special recognition just like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons as each was the star of the groups. Listen to The Wanderer, one of the old black and white performances.
Thank you for the trip down memory land
Such a great voice
Good for you for doing this! (There was also a “Boy Named Sue” by some guy named Johnny Cash)
Dion on was on the fateful “Winter Tour” with Buddy Holy, The Bopper, and Richie Valance. He didn’t get on the plane and the others died.He spiralled for a time after that (it could have been him) but eventually recovered and is making great music to this day. Last one was a rocker with Joe Bonamasa and before that with Boz Scaggs. More than worth checking out the guy is a force of nature.
I just can't listen to this song without snapping my fingers!
A King...
Another great Doo Wop song is Why Do Fools Fall In Love by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. There's a video on CZcams from one of the US Chat Shows where the compere interviews them before they sing the song ...... it's great !
Your right harri,. My middle name is sue. Man I got so many comments on this song way in the day. 🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Dion and the Belmonts grew up in the Belmont section of the Bronx NY. They would sing Doo Wop on the corner of 187st. That's how they got their name. If you want the best Italian food in NYC come to Belmont. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED . Plus they have the Italian market and many Italian Deli's. A must restaurant for great Italian cuisine is ROBERTO'S.
Sue was Dion's high-school sweetheart and became his wife in 1963. They are still married today. :)
True story! with an happy end: dion is !for real! still married to sue!
Just a fun song!
i love dion check out the wanderer, its well known from 1970s movie the wanderers
❤
Dion is great check out his song The wanderer. Watch the video of it. I love your channel. Keep shining your light ✌️
Dion and The Belmonts is what they were known as.
Hey Harri - youv'e got to check out the live video version of this song !
Northeastern US urban street singing doowop, centered from Baltimore north to NY City
He’s were I my state from Bronx NYC this heavy for the time
Another song I danced to as a child with my Mom. Dion obviously wasn't too crushed, maybe his thoughts that he was really thinking was more like "don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you girl " lol
Love me some doo-wop!
I love your wide & varied great taste in music 🎵 NEW SUB
Harri, This song was in the British Top Ten for December 1961, but it did'nt make the No.1 spot. Dion was so big back then. Cheers, Chris Perry.
I'm a boy named Sue lol 😂😂
Makes me want to dance. Love this. Takes me back to when I was small and my Uncle and aunt would jive in my Nan's kitchen .
My friend when I was a teen was the perfect runaround sue. She was quite happy to date a few at a time. I just sort of watched in shock and awe. The video that goes with this is black and white and so awesome. Your countrymen in UK did a great cover (the overtones). Unfortunately the lead singer died but he had a spectacular voice as did they all!
If you want a song with a similar feel check out Joey D and the Starlighters “Peppermint Twist”.
this is one of the great American songs of all time! Here’s a suggestion, Johnny Cash “a boy named Sue“. Yeah stick with the Sue theme for a while! 😉
This is Dion. No Belmonts. He split with them in 1960. I remember the day.
You should react to some Tommy Roe Harri "jam up and jelly tight" "Dizzy" "Sheila" or "sweet pea"
And there was Johnny Cash's 'A Boy Named Sue'.
Don't listen to "Last Kiss" if you do not want to get emotional. J Frank Wilson probably has the most popular early version.
Abraham, Martin, and John by. DION☮️⭐
Dion DiMucci had a great solo career, but his earlier group - Dion and The Belmonts - did some of the best doo-wop ever:
"I Wonder Why" - czcams.com/video/4ZBSGaWrEn4/video.html
"Teenager in Love" - czcams.com/video/1fgnEDi7bq0/video.html
"That's My Desire" - czcams.com/video/MIZo9ueQoXY/video.html
"Where or When" - czcams.com/video/oUwBfwtvssw/video.html
This song is so amazing fun! I love it! ♥
btw: if you wann do a cry-2-song-2 ... try "Ray Peterson - Tell Laura I Love Her (RCA 1960)" :´-( The song, the story is ... sad, very sad story filled with love!
Another good Susan song is the Buckinghams if you want to keep the Sue thing going. The 50s and 60s had so many heartbreaking songs, makes ya kinda wonder what was going on with couples, maybe it was post-war trying to find a girl to marry, LOL.
Monster in pop music and then became an evangelical Christian and just as huge making GREAT songs that very few outside the Christian community know about. Check out, I Put Away my Idols.
Try
Toots and the Maytals' Just like that .
You would like Abraham Martin and John by Dion.
Again NO autotune
You should check out Season of the Witch.
Dion DiMucci was the lead of one of the more impactful groups in rock from the mid-fifties and then on and off to the mid-sixties, The Belmonts. Dion, without the group has recorded and remained a visible pioneer of rock. He was inducted into the rock hall in '89 amid controversy because the fruitballs on the voting committee in those early years thought that simply inducting the lead of major acts was sufficient. They later had to compensate for their glaring omissions by staging a mass induction of those groups, like the Crickets and the Miracles. However to this day the Belmonts have been short shifted. The Belmonts had a bucketful of hits from the get go such as this one featured, and other major hits like Where or When, Teenager In Love, or this one wonderful example here,

Dion, as a solo act, ( although backed by the Del-Satins un-credited) had a number of noteworthy hits including the late 60's Abraham, Martin and John. My all time favorite by him though as a solo act was this one, despite the inferences in this age of Me-Too.
czcams.com/video/CdhWVdYpQKk/video.html
Btw Harri if you thought Sue was a tough name then, watch this.
czcams.com/video/WOHPuY88Ry4/video.html
I'm forgetting to tell you about Melnitsa, my final request. First of all, the name (which means the Mill) is pronounced Mmyell-neet-sa and the song, "Boginya Ishtar," (which means Goddess Ishtar) is pronounced pretty much as in looks but the "in" is pronounced "een." It's a woman's song asking for Ishtar's protection and uttering death threats against the Khan who had captured her.
The group has been together for more than 20 years and they are the most popular Folk-Rock band in Russia drawing large crowds. They are fronted by Natalia O'Shea (she's married to an Irish diplomat. Within the band, she's the main singer and focal point, plays harp, flute and acoustic guitar and writes most of their material. She also performs Celtic music as Hellawes. Natalia is a linguist who gained her PhD in Dublin and she's worked as a professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
This is the first song of theirs that I heard, since then I've bought all of the albums I can find.
Here's the song czcams.com/video/4qnVQenKB_Y/video.html
Hironical.....that's the word !
Harri check out Frankie Valli's Walk Like A Man. I guarantee you will love the lyrics
Keep away from Sue. Especially that Boy Named Sue. (Johnny Cash song) 🤣🤣🤣
Oh, yeah? Try "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash if you haven't?
This is good, but I prefer the more strongly doo-wop stuff by Dion & the Belmonts, such as “I Wonder Why” (1958). Another great hit from that time is "Little Star" (1958) by the Elegants, which is very worthy of your reaction.
Just like I feel sorry for girls named Karen today!
This is a very catchy song. I think this was released in 61. Before my time, ha! My middle name is Susan. No one called me Sue. I didn't like that.
This is the most cheerful break up song. Great pick and reaction Harri!
"The Wanderer" is kind of like what Dion became after "Runaround Sue" broke his heart:-) Both songs came out on the same album. Actually, Dion was married to the same woman for decades and her name also happened to be Sue. Apparently, she used to joke that she was the "Sue" from the song, even though she wasn't. Both songs were written by Ernie Maresca with Dion listed as co-writer on "The Wanderer". There's a great Live performance of the Wanderer from 1961. It's actually from a film called "Twist Around the Clock". It's nice because you get to see his stage presence, the back-up "dancers" and the audience. czcams.com/video/jP1z0dQVcIQ/video.html Love your reactions Harri!
It’s for you to jitterbug!!
