Is it the same for 2014 elantra?
Thank you for the video! I was able to replace this part myself and saved $500, which was the quote I received from the mechanic I took it to. I was able to do it without disconnecting the u joint. Was able to do it in about 2.5 hours. And, wow! No more clicking and clunking. Been driving for years with this problem. Thanks for the insight which made it go much easier and smoother!
I used to do these weekely when I worked at a used car dealer. I have found it can be done in about 30 min without removing a lot of the wires or the column, but you must have a T30 1/4 inch and know exactly what bolts to remove. You must also take care not to break the brake switch that is a plastic hunk of junk (ask how I know). I feel your process is more by the book and very helpful for anybody attempting it for there first time. Those splines are very important to get back right as they might throw the alignment off. Another tip of advice to anybody removing any steering column is to make sure not to turn the wheel as this may cause damage to the clockspring. Your video was very helpful. Keep up the great work!
Sir Andrew are you in New York I want someone to help me do this
@@rafififi1691 I am not in New York. I am sure there is someone local that could get it done for you.
Its impossible for those splines to throw off your alignment, no way no how. If anything it can cause your steering wheel to not be straight.
@@Anotherdaynparadise when i said alignment i ment the alignment of the steering wheel, nobody wants to get in there car after a repair and have a steering wheel crooked.
Can you please advise how much it should cost to change the coupler. I was quoted $800 as they said that Module needs to be changed. But the invoice says Coupler has been changed not Module for the same money though😢
Much more thorough on clips and tips then some other videos I've watched. Thanks!
Thanks brother I watched a couple of these videos on how to fix it and yours was a lot more helpful by pointing out the different connectors to undo thanks again keep up the great content 👍🏻
Good video. Quick, informative, and to the point. No wasted time on intro talk or excessive off topic descriptions. Quick explanations and all the dead air is edited out nicely. A lot of other DIY CZcamsrs could learn from this.
Saw another vid that was 40 min but was very detailed, I’d say that was a good one
I have found it helpful to check and recalibrate the steering sensor after replacing the coupler. Only had one so far that needed recalibration, I was glad I checked.
Awesome job show the process. I’ll let you know when I complete mine…😱
Prolly never own one but was fun to watch!
Mine is a 2013 Hybrid, no Key ignition to unplug, push to start button that is not involved in this repair.
Thank you for a really great, to the point, video.
Good job dude ..alot of fun,as I've done this repair myself before..
Greetings Chris, great video. I really enjoyed it and i definitely learned something from it..i greatly appreciate you and all you do..👍🤙🤘🍻
👍👌👏 Very well done again. Small cause, big effect.
Best regards, luck and health.
2012 Elantra Limited with this same issue, but I have a keyfob and not a mechanical key/ignition tumbler so how would I move the steering wheel after the battery's been unplugged for access to those three #2 screws with 7mm heads on the column? Should I just crack the three screws open just a bit, or even remove them completely, well before disassembling anything else and while the battery is still connected? Thank you for any input
So much better then 1a auto video! Thank you!!
We tackled a 2013 Kia Optima. We did not disconnect the steering knuckle. It was a pain one big wire bundle was in our way but the younger guy was able to get motor off. Vaccum it out. Put the planned obsolescence rubber pee poor design gear in. Prayed a lot. Great relief when it worked. Amazing it even works with that ridiculous rubber gear. Two of us are sore after fighting that battle. Had a little jack stand under it while removing motor etc. Didn’t see this video till now. Other videos made it way easier than it was. I will never own one of these goofy set ups.
My wife and I did it 72 and 78 and we prayed too, only hard part was lifting it to put it back. haha
This may be an old video but. That little wire with the blue clip, my brother in law attempted to fix this exact piece but broke that little wire pin. Would a new steering harness be needed? The vehicle now doesn’t have EPS, the EPS light turned on when he checked which wire it was. I’m wondering if he was correct. And if it is. Can that one little wire harness be replaced or does the whole harness that , that wire is connected to have to be replaced
I just had my 2011 Hyundai Sonata repaired for this exact problem. It was worth every penny of labor after watching your video! Thanks for the video which helped me understand what had to be done!
What was your car doinf
How much did you pay?
@@zealzeal2323 it was some time ago. I want to say it was in excess of $300
Ugh they want me to pay $425.
Thank you for the awesome content!!!
Clear and easy instructions
What is the name of the small blue lock your removing at 3:15 or the connector its attached. Mine flew off and i cant find it. Looking to replace it
My 2015 kia soul has that same loose steering. I assume it’s the same setup?
I did mine, but have a problem there is a small brown wire that pulled out from someplace... it was going forward towards the brake light switch.. its pouring rain here so havent had time to check everything out yet
Hello Chris, dang that seems like kind of a fragile set up. I guess the good news is that when the couple fails you do not lose your steering! As always thanks for the straight forward repair with out any added drama! Personally I do not think that you talk too fast. Have a good day man and of course thumbs UP! 👍
So you can drive safely even with it mush?
On the elantra you can pop the speedometer out to see an pull it from the top an bottom while inplace
If my vehicle looks like this is it necessary to replace this part if I can put up with the clicking noise?
Nice video well detailed ‼️‼️
hey brother just wanted to know if this a part of recall from the dealership ? let me know because my friend have similar issue. thank you
did this repair for a friend and a steering angle sensor and airbag voltage resistance code came up any idea where i could have went wrong?
What if i replaced this and its still makingv the noise?
I have 2014 Hyundai sonata hybrid and have problem with steering when I drive in the highway if the steering turns slightly right or left wouldn't come back to the original direction.
I replaced the steering rack and the coppler but problem doesn't resolve
Where is coupler steering located I want to replace the whole part
my 2013 Elantra GT has this issue but the dealer said they won't cover it.
Thumbs up 👍 talking is fine 😊
Y’all do NOT undo the 14mm to the steering column U it’s absolutely pointless just drop it down still connected and replace it on its side.
what year is that one/?
What lights were on on the dash before fixing this?
Hellz yeah thanks a lot
How much do you charge for the labor?
The dealership wanted to charge me $1000 to do this shit crazy
Try and do it yourself and save a ton. The rubber bushing is just a few dollars.
great video my question would be when you take off the battery terminal does that discharge the capacitors in the airbag from the steering wheel
20 minutes approx. after disconnecting battery terminal.
Thank you.
Papa ano mag kabit ng time ming ng Hyundai gasoline
Can anyone tell me the approximate cost for this?
Doing this for a co-worker it seems like professionals only take an hour to do something like this but, I also know it's considered a factory defect so would the dealership fix it for free?? Because if I do it for him iama ask for at least $50 apart from him purchasing the replacement piece that's bound to wear again
Thank you
Mines the Kia soul but yours was clear
Thanks for the great vid!! I’m getting charged $425. I thought damn maybe I can do it myself. Lol. Looks like too many wires to get behind smh. What is everyone having to pay?
Hey, thank you for the tutorial! However, after I finished replacing the steering coupler and put everything together my EPS and traction control lights are on, on the dash. I'm confident was very careful with my wires and got everything put back. Any guesses what is causing this?
I would suggest scanning it for codes I'm going from there. Or you can try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it to see if that clears it. If it doesn't then something is wrong or something is unplugged
Did it with our unplugged the harness
How many hours did you charge the customer to get this done?
Mine makes this noise but does it also make a louder noise going over bumps?? Or is that another problem.
Hey, my car is making a louder noise as well ON TOP of this noise. It's a rattle going over any bumps. Did you get it fixed?
How much do you charge for that?
Can you please advise how much it should cost to fix this. I was told by my mechanic that he would change the Steering MODULE for $800. But the invoice says that COUPLER has been changed.. for the same amount though. Can you please advise.
It’s should be a 2 hour job and you would mostly pay for the labor cost.
How much i can charge for that job
Fast fix?
There is an extended warranty (TSB) for this problem with the MDPS steering coupler 10 yrs/
100k miles. I just got my 2013 Sonata fixed for free by the dealer. Also for 2015 - 2017 Sonata the warranty has been extended to 15 yrs /150k miles. The warranty covers original and subsequent owners. Just do a search for Hyundai TSBs.
Any warranty for 2013 kia optima hybrid with 114,000 miles??
I have this problem but I am both too broke to get it fixed and have uneducated hands. Is the problem just the annoying sound or is it dangerous to drive if I have this problem?
You really just need to find someone that is very mechanical incline have them study it jump right in less than 40 minutes fix the part cost $1,35 cents almost Free.. they might charge you 100 bucks
How did u get the hanger back in I'm having issues with it
I use a scissor jack and manually raise the column. It went in without a hitch. There's no way you can put that hook in with only two hands unless you have a helper.
@@fcan222 yeah I definitely found that out the hard way
Can I drive the car with MDPS flex coupling worn out?
Yes - As a heads up, this is sometimes covered under warranty. You'll want to check.
I have to change this in my KIA Cerato, was thinking perhaps when the new rubber coupler bushing is installed that if some rubber grease was packed around the bushing that this may make the new bushing last the distance. Any comment welcome.
I'm going to comment on a bunch of these videos. I have a 2015 Kia Sorento. I took the whole thing apart and had to remove the fuse box(on some vids ppl didn't have to). I took the motor apart....to my surprise...NO GEAR!!!!!!! Spline type connection. I had a clunking sound but mainly it was after the car sat a while and after the initial noise it would rarely make the noise again. I was so mad when there was no coupler/Gear. I put everything back together and was looking around where the steering rod goes through the floor into this white cover type thing. GUESS WHAT WAS LAYING THERE!!!?? A PAIR OF PLIERS that the mechanic must have dropped and it was sitting on this thing where to me may have caused the noise!!! Just an FYI!!!
Alot of work for a rubber bushing...think made of something stronger
If that was the ‘fast fix’ I guess the standard fix starts with removal of the rear wheels and works forward by removing the exhaust
I followed this and put it all back together and now the eps light turned on and I have no steering. Do you have any solutions for this?
It's possible you forgot to plug something in. Double check and then scan it for codes
Great video did mechanic work for 20 yrs but has been awhile anyway finished but have steering wheel with exclamation mark & pulls to left now can I pull a fuse to turn it off?
@@NNKH2I have the same issue. I plugged everything back and now I have an ‘EPS’ light on and my steering wheel is extremely difficult to turn. Any other suggestions? Thanks
I see why this cost me almost $300 to replace back in 2017. Looks like a very complicated process for labor...
What was your car doing for you to have it done?
I did this but now the steering is very hard
😢
Same thing for me. Any idea why? I also have my EPS light on now.
“Fast fix” haha good luck getting the main bolt back in
Only common problem for electric power steering models.
Hey guys nice video but you absolutely disconnected way to many objects for this job I done mines in less than 40 minutes completely just using a 10 mm and a 30 mm torque bit all with out dropping steering column or taking the cover from steering wheel it's much easier than the video
I was showing the factory way of doing it. There's always corners to be cut and quicker ways to do things
Este o problema veche. Cei de la Hyundai trebuia să o rezolve demult.
