The Boys: Everything They Changed From The Comics

  • The Boys on Amazon might be the best example of an adaption that’s better in almost every way and I’m being generous by not saying the whole thing is outright better. Characters like Homelander and Billy Butcher are much more nuanced and aren’t just the worst possible person you can imagine with a little extra trash sprinkled in. The original was billed as a critique of superheroes but never really got there and felt more like anti-love letter or I guess hate letter works better to the genre by Garth Ennis who’s said multiple times that he really really hates superheroes. Now in the show, you’re going to actually hate superheroes because they’re written like real people with flaws that could’ve been great but fall rather than just seeing a bunch of supervillains masquerading as heroes. The Amazon show is far from perfect but when it comes to the various changes that it’s made to the source material during it’s run, it’s been a diabolical good time. So in this video, we’re talking about all the different changes from Black Noir to Stan Edgar and how they’re different from the comics.
If you liked the video, wanted to yell at me that the comics are better (you’re wrong), or found something that I left off for you to fill the comments with, throw them down there in the comment section. And don’t forget to do all the CZcams stuff like, hitting the sub button, liking the video and hitting the notification bell so you don’t miss another video where I say that the comics are bad and the show is good.

You can take the first season and how instead of The Deep forcing starlight make it the original 3 who did, Atrain Homelander and Black Noir, because it would be even more shocking just like the comics and still make the experience horrible for the viewer for it's introduction. Especially since the Deep wasn't like that nor was he white in the comics. This is the same ol let's subvert expectations by changing the source material gag. That story was very realistic in that it was government experimentation that started it all.
Just like the government does illegal experimentation on the civilian population all the way up until today.
Also in that it was extreme government corruption that had the organizations running how they were.
Just like governments do with organizations that they start or overtake today.
The story emphasized on how things would actually look if that many random people suddenly had that type of power.
Do you really think that many people would be so caring and loving and concerned about humanity that all they would want to do is help?
No you would have people displaying every type of personality that people actually display.
Which means a ton of them would be narcissistic, psychotic, insane, power hungry, fame-driven and worse.
Especially when you take into consideration that it was all government controlled and that type of behavior is what they rewarded and perpetuated.
In the comic that girl gave like two or three dudes a b****** to join that group.
In Hollywood women and men both are often expected to perform sexually to further their positions.

Just saying "they worse in the comic" is very lazy writing. Either explain it or don't bring it up if you're too scare YT is gonna get mad. Like you pointed out in the beginning their are others that have covered this topic and they ALL do it better.

I wish they kept black noir the same, him being a clone was such a small part of his reveal it really changes how you look at the real homelander

Maybe in season 4 they will bring him back as the clone with zinc mask so Homelander doesnt see who that really is.

Soldier boy is my favorite character by far ! Jensen nailed it! He is the real OG and.will help take out his brightburn son and his son can grow up very much not like homelander. Soldier boy was so engaging and hilarious.

How did The Boys even get picked up as a show in the first place? I am seeing so many comments saying the comics aren't even good. I mean, I guess the overall plot is pretty unique. But were the comics even popular before the show? (I am not a comic guy, but absolutely loved watching The Boys).

What the comic does a bit better is Hughie and Starlight/Annies relationship. It's more complex than the show at times and delves more into the psychological factors of getting molested/raped, where in the show she was just simply angry about it. In the comic It's a constant battle for each other to keep the relationship together as they both have troubles revealing their traumas to one another.
People who read the comics and say it's edge lord stuff haven't really read the comics, because all that edginess and gore is pretty much very surface level to keep things unique, many people watch the show for the crazy edgy stuff too, it sells. You are mostly reading the comic for the stories of Butcher, Hughie, and Annie, the rest are edgy filler that are honestly just breaks from the relationship drama, and moral drama with Hughie and Butcher. Of course with a cute little bonus of Frenchie and The Female relationship.
My proof? It's the only things the show hasn't changed from the comics at all.

Definitely agree 100%! Hughie and Annie’s relationship in the show is very one-note, same arguments and scenes between them repetitively. Their comic relationship has a lot more going for it.
