Those screens with the huge black bezels are not going to age well.
Looks dated already there
None of the new tech will age well.
Same goes for every car with a screen.
They already look horrible.
its the price you gotta pay for being an early adopter
Please, please Mercedes, bring back a volume knob
No kidding.
Especially considering their client demographic.
@@pepperonipete7566 Most new cars are.
@user-vx7vi3vq1c Only in North America. Young people from the rest of the planet consider Mercedes to be a cool brand to own and have.
Honestly the steering wheel buttons are more convenient and used more

Doug’s Bat Cave…
100% that place is dank
He likes the bunker because he doesn't have to deal with the weather and random people/cars interrupting his shoot.

How it feels driving a compact car in America
Doug should be the spokesman for Mercedes of Temecula at this point.
Umm, not this time around. He stated that he actually prefers the new BMW 5 Series, which is a total shocker because Doug is a Mercedes fanboy.
@@jr1885I’m not surprised. Any reliable source is saying that BMW is on top of their game. Thankfully Doug is honest and admits he would choose the 5 over the E.
@@ajlee6933 I'm actually quite impressed how well BMW and MB handled the transition to EVs and modern software/infotainment systems. Both provide excellent cars at the moment.
@@DaGhost141 I agree. You can’t go wrong with either brand. It’ll basically come down to small differences like exterior/interior design, or your personal comfort levels.
@@jr1885he is actually a Porsche fanboy. He loves the brand so much that not only it has his most favourite car of all time, but he also has reviewed every possible Porsche car, even though almost all of them look like clones what otherwise makes Douglas to downgrade the score. And he has even worked for Porsche.
I absolutely hate the "hyperscreen" or whatever they call it. I personally think the lower level options that include wood trim looks so much more elegant than the sea kf black glass
Someone like me truly love the Mercedes Hyperscreen ❤
That's why there are 2 options available.
I totally agree . Looks way too tryhardy .
Yep, and RIP to your bank account when it eventually fails and your warranty has long expired. That things going to cost $5K to replace.
Except that old fashion glossy stuff from the 90s. That looks even cheaper and more cost cutting than screens.
That third screen is an overkill and looks a little tacky
I'm guessing that the advantage of the 3rd screen is that if you have, say, navigation on the 2nd screen, then the passenger can still control something else, like the radio.
Bet it's optional, and for a hefty price. :)
Don't get it
Luxury cars feel less luxurious over the years. What happened to leather, wood, nice metal controls??
Nah…”luxury” now means how many screens and buried features you can stuff into a car…
The same happened as with quality on general. Especially with Mercedes. They used to be cars that were reliable and could be driven for ages. They took pride in being able to build a solid car. They still had buyers of new models. These days they build low quality stuff, doesn't last etc. There's no point in buying a new mercedes, bmw or audi, they are made to be leased. You lease it, don't worry if something breaks. Then some sucker buys it as used and gets to deal with the costs involved.
Which is ironic considering the ultra green mindset of Germany these days. These are made to be single use, like Tesla etc. The green revolution has created more throw away stuff than ever existed. It is the same with powertools etc. It's all about make them last just long enough and sell them more stuff.
The interior feels like a top-tech cocoon, but what about elegance?
quality comes at a price and most companies have greedy mf'ers running it who want profit over quality.
@@yokane77 I don’t think it has anything to do with corporate “greed”, the trend is just filling interiors with ambience lights and screens rather than luxurious finishes. Look at Tesla or the latest 7 series which “biggest” feature was a big screen for the back passengers.
I must be old fashioned in that I don't care for screens, screens, and more screens. I prefer buttons and knobs, and a normal gauge cluster.
I think most people prefer buttons and knobs.
I think ultimately it's cheaper for car companies to consolidate everything into a screen and pretend like it's fancy.
The car industry has always been at odds with consumers. Cars get bigger and heavier... More techy. It's not what people are asking for.
I like a digital gauge cluster and a nice screen with Apple CarPlay. Any more than that is totally unnecessary
Just commented the same thing on a previous post. We all have a large flat screen TV in our homes and have smart phones etc. I think we can get in a car at least and not been looking at another screen !
buy a Suzuki then
@@ralfulrich6254 What would we do with all the left over money 🤭
12:24 Mercedes Benz is using what the Nintendo 3DS had in 2011. Life has come back full circle 😂
anyone remember those "rare" 3d holohraphic Marvel Comics trading cards from the early 1990's? a display that looks like they did would be pretty cool too. I'm generally not a big fan of screen gauge clusters(i prefer analog), but if they start getting really cool looking, I'll be sold.
And Genesis has had it since several years ago as well. Crazy to see that Mercedes is only catching up now
I was going to say this xD. Doug the type of guy to call a Nintendo 3ds screen a preview of whats coming in the future in 2024.
I immediately made that connection as well. I do like the idea, though I wonder how distracting it could be.
@@MachineYearning mercedes also has it since years, but just in other models. That being said it works exceptionally well in Mercedes. Not comparable to the 3DS lol
Doug forgot to mention that you’re going to spend a lot of time cleaning those screens. Not only will it have finger prints everywhere, as soon as you open the door it attracts dust.
Owning a modern car like this requires a clean microfiber to be kept in the console / glovebox.
Even more reason to love the Mazda click wheel! My screen is always clean.
its already nasty in this vid even though its just a 10 minute overview lmao
@@androiduberalles same with my BMW. I rarely ever touch the screen.
It’s been an issue for over 10 years at this point. Drivers just get used to it.
In a world where everything is an suv, this car is beautiful.
The design is quite attractive but all those screens would complicate life for me.
Your mother is a SUV
Well said!

@@7he4040Im an Alfa Romeo Giulia
I had a 2018 E coupe for roughly 5 years. I purchased it from a dealership and I did every maintenance interval with the dealership. The entire experience was fantastic from the vehicle to the dealership and service. I only had 1 issue in with my service experience and the dealership corrected it immediately. I sold the vehicle with roughly 65,000 in 2023. It never had a single issue for the entire ownership. Granted, I did every single service required and didn’t own the car past 100,000 miles.
Had the 2019 coupe too.. miss it a lot!
The more screens they add, the less surface area for premium quality materials like leather, wood, aluminum, etc. it's a shame
You do know that the 3rd screen is an option, right? Mine has open-pore maple with aluminum strips on both the dash and the console. $200 more than the super screen.
that is exactly the point. its cheaper to manufacture but expensive and hard to repair. just like CVT transmissions. and the cost savings dont trickle down to buyers, because you pay for the "technology".
Spot on. For a proper dash that does not sacrifice tech, look at the Alpha Giulia. A true beauty.
So true. It makes the interior feel cheap.
Bro is acting like some leather or wood trim is more expensive than a display
9:20 The future owner of this car , looking in the gallery after many years of ownership and never using that feature: "who the heck is this guy?" Or: "wow , I drove for so many years this car and I had no idea it's the one that Doug has reviewed."
Hahah! probably 3 or 4 years from now when it ends up on CARRRSS & BIDS!
I grew up around the brand in the 70’s and 80’s. I wish they had backed off on technology and focused more on luxury and reliability. That dashboard would give me a migraine
Reliability goes against the business model
Then they wouldn’t be Mercedes, they’ve always done this, and its never aged well. But they have the best tech in each era
@@seandoyle9537 agreed. They’ve been over engineered for quite awhile now.
@@seandoyle9537 They were at the forefront with many things. But with actual substance back then. Nothing that would interfere with the basic functions of the car in any negative way. In europe it's available without the superscreen and it's way more beautiful
And its 30% more expensive.
It's an OPTION. Like Doug said.
It's available in the U.S. like that also. My Benz dealer here in California has a few without the super screen. No buttons though.

Sad I didn't get to live in the days when the 535 had a V8. Nowadays, the 135i has a 2 liter FWD i believe.
They’re likely changing up the naming system for all of their classes by 2033 because one of their chief executives told car and driver the s class is being discontinued that year so at least you have that to look forward to because I’m sure they’ll have the names resemble the motors in the cars
@@servissop151 the 135i is actually a 4wd, but yeah, it's a fwd car. It's rubbish. The older 1 was a rwd.
@@iosgaming2824 S-class is MB:s whole identity so that wont happen lol.
When multiple types of power plants became normal, just putting the displacement doesn't help identify it in the range anymore. a 2.0T can have more power than a 3.0 NA, also how you classify a hybrid, or an EV with no cylinders. They needed at some point to switch the numbers to be relative performance numbers rather than just displacement.

Isn't calling it 1 giant screen a bit of a stretch? It looks like 2 screens with 1 front glass. There's a gap between them that can't display image.
Not Hyperscreen, MB calls it the 'Superscreen' in the new E-class. Probably because the screen behind the steering wheel is not part of the same giant bezel as the other two.

Bravo to Mercedes for making a nice, classy looking car. No weird cuts and lines and stuff all over the place, no belligerent grill, just a very good looking, elegant car. Bravo indeed.
EDIT: For clarity, I'm referring to exterior...the outside of the car...not the interior.
You obviously need glasses if you think the new E looks better than the out going model. Even Doug said he prefers the look of the 5 Series over the E which says a lot.

it will never cease to amaze me how high end mercedes is but... they cant get rid of the orange peel in the paint. when $30k mazdas are coming out with something close to candy paint i feel like the standard for that should be much higher on a luxury vehicle

As an owner of 2019 E class, I have to say the design of class is timeless. Everytime I look at it, I admire it. It is simple and elegant.
My model is amg tuned with bigger wheels so though it looks nice I personally don't love the stiffness and ride quality vs my GLE but still not too bad. Paid in full and going to keep it for a long time.

Hey Doug. This is probably my 500th review video I've watched. Thank you.
Would it be possible to reverse in the car while showing the backup camera? You show how everything functions, never the backup cam. Some backup cameras may have some interesting quirks.
Thanks again.
Probably dangerous to film and reverse at the same time
The smudges and fingerprints on the giant screen look awesome!!!
My OCD will explode my head. I once saw a Mercedes with finger prints under the sun with the screen turned off. It looked like a bear and a gorilla had been driving the car for weeks with the massive finger prints all over the huge screen. 🤦🏾♂
E-Classes have always had unique styling until the previous gen which looked like a bigger C-Class. But this new one really looks like a baby S-Class

What happens in 15 years when the screen breaks and there aren’t any screens available because Mercedes quit making them?
You do NOT want to own anything like this after 5-6 years of ownership. I cannot imagine how much these silly screens cost. Chances are they’ll put a superscreen in the S-class refresh.
I think there’s a good chance they won’t give it the same screen the EQS or EQE has to differentiate it more but their chief of design told car and driver it’s getting a similar screen to the e class and the interior of it and future models will have more buttons, switches, knobs, and basically more traditional buttons on the steering wheels
And probably the last generation of the S class nameplate, it’s just not selling, on the flip side 7 series has a controversial look but it sold better than the S class somewhat, I guess my MB mechanic was right about the w223 problems, which he fixes that in his workshop daily
@@seansiew5629 bmw only sold about 700 more 7 series models then Mercedes last year with s classes and just from 2020-2022 meaning when Mercedes started selling the new s class they were selling around 2000 more then bmw was in 2020, almost double in 2021, and almost triple in 2022 so the s class is not having troubles selling. Their chief of design told car and driver that the s class will receive two more generations including the one in a few years and another one before its discontinued too before it’s discontinued, and likely renamed
Those seats look like they've been ripped out of a Spacex rocket, dreamy!
The w213 was an instant buy as a complete good looking package. The W214 is an “ehhhh, I’ll wait to see the facelift”.
$80,000 for a 4 cylinder
$90,000 for a 6
$110,000 for the V8
The new E Class is going to have a V8? That's news to me.
@@snakeeyes9246I think they'll barely just cram it in like they did with the new S class.
80k for a 4 cylinder, what a joke!
You get what you pay for. Never forget that.

As long as that 4 banger doesn’t commit suicide after 1k miles 😂
what 4 banger?
The one is this E350...2.0L turbo 4 cylinder@@martinsvensson6884
It doesn’t. I own a 9 year old 200E and it’s still like new.
The "4 banger" in my 240 Diesel was no longer viable at about 110,000 miles due to low compression in one cylinder. A factory rebuild engine shipped in a wire cage from Germany and installed by a Mercedes dealer lasted about 10,000 miles before it developed low compress in one cylinder. A second factory rebuilt engine allowed the car to make it to 220,000 miles but it was a rusted through wreck by then with the interior falling apart too. I lavished attention and money on that car but that couldn't overcome the poor quality.
@@H2SO4H20 If that was a w123 240D then you did something wrong to that engine because no other engine in any other car anywhere has higher miles on them on avarage before junked.. :)
Used as Taxis över the whole globe. Still is in some places in Africa and Middle East.
Sync 3 with wireless android auto via a Google pixel is still the best experience I have ever had in a car (even compared to a 2019 GLE). It just works, and isn't confusing.
