Me, I always try to have conversations when I'm standing/sitting next to someone to avoid eye contact :D
I always took into their eyes for a couple of seconds and then I look at something else to avoid that awkward feeling ^^
Haziq Zamri Yeah I have this uncontrollable urge to look away ,even if it's somebody I like and I'm consciously trying to keep eye contact. It just cannot be done. Perhaps it's because I don't like to draw attention to myself at all.

Right I have to work with this guy everyday and I try to make small talk with him because we work in such close quarters. He doesn't furthur share after I ask him questions and he never initiates conversations. I always have to start it. Its very awkward and it's not my fault. I'm playing my role.
Just don't give a fuck, if you feel like talking and he doesn't wanna give much of a response, just don't care. How to talk to people when you are the person they are intimidated by. I'm 6'7 255lbs and I'm athletic not fat. Whenever I go to talk to people (especially guys) I can really feel them being extremely cautious incase they say something that might offend me. I don't get offended easily and I'm extremely nice and kind (gentle giant) but it's very deflating when the person you talk to is scared of you. Great video btw.

This is aurguably the best non-fashion related video you have ever made. Simple, concise and to the point. I always wondered why I am reviered for my abilaty to hold conversations with some of my friends and not others, and you adressed that right out of the gate; my presupositions about what they wanted to talk about. I now realize it is more important to just throw caution to the winds and just freeflow with them until I find what sticks.

One thing that I learned from a close friend of mine. Always show that the person you are speaking to is important and worth learning from. Even if you have no interested in their passion, show them whatever they are into has value in the world. This technique will go a long way in a conversation.
But whatever you do, don't be fake with it.
About the nodding thing, I used to have the opposite issue sometimes; I would occasionally overdo the nodding, especially if it was with someone in a more senior position to me, or on a date with a really attractive girl, probably coming across as overly eager to please. Gotta find a happy medium.
The spacing out and not paying attention while others talk thing is the biggest one for me, and probably a lot of people. I think ADD may play a role here. Sometimes it's not a big deal, but sometimes it can happen when it's an important conversation. If I'm nervous sometimes, I find myself thinking about thinking, or "meta-thinking", and this distracts my attention away from the interaction.

I've been there. Seriously. I didn't even have friends. (Make a list of things you dislike about yourself) it could even be things you say or how you say them, what makes you feel bad, etc. Work on these things little by little and build up confidence in YOURSELF. Remember you are no different and no less than ANYONE. Regardless of how cool and fucking popular they are. Relieve yourself of stress, google your problem and find answers. Listen to other conversations. Ask those who are close to you for advice on speaking to others. Practice with a stranger how to smile or how to have good body language (small talk) like smiling at a cashier and saying have a nice day with confidence and giving off good energy. Remember don't let fake assholes into your life EVER, and look for the good in people. Never lose sight of the other things that come in life. (If you are extremely desperate then you can always pay a prostitiue or something idkk) Become the person YOU want to be! YOU DESERVE IT! DONT LIVE LIFE AFRAID, LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!

part of conversation are those awkward silences! don't be afraid of them! accept them and being comfortable with them is very important for your confidence!
Not everyone can pull off a good conversation which is something that I should improve in my own personality. But your techniques are great, I have to always keep it in mind whenever I socialize to different kind of people and most especially when having a first date.
