  • This is a tour of my 1995 Mercedes-Benz S600 V12 W140. I am proud to be able to own a one owner original Georgia car that has been pampered for its entire life. The car has always been dealer maintained, cost no object. The intense maintenance routine on these over-engineered vehicles even went to the extent of replacing the airbags every decade... an overseen detail on most examples, but present on this vehicle. Nothing compares to the smooth and supple ride produced by the hydropneumatic adaptable suspension. The interior smells like a tannery, completely immersed in leather wrapped surfaces, and burled walnut wood - a Merceddes-Benz staple.

    A proud specimen. The two tone white is Eh but the leather dash and doors are actually a very rare option even on the 600

    • @rubinhoward7309
      @rubinhoward7309  Před 4 lety +2

      I think white is a nice color for it. If I ever repainted the car I would go for a white on white in the original color. The leather dash and doors bring the car to an entirely new level.

      @@rubinhoward7309 I'd be tempted to have it resprayed bright red for some reason. Huge job though as the the whole body would have to be stripped of everything to do it properly. Engine out, interior out etc. Would cost more than the value of the car and afterwards a red S600 would be unsellable lol.
      But if I had all that cash and no intention of selling it I'd love a red one

    The v6 and v8 models had the alcantara headliner. The v12 models actually had a real suede headliner. So you guessed it more supple soft leather.

      @@rubinhoward7309 whew that’s an expensive repair! It was the main curse of the 1992 through 1995 model year. Mercedes Benz sorted that mess out for 1996 onwards. Just be careful though the same biodegradable wiring is used the power exterior mirrors and for the folding feature of the exterior side mirrors. These can short out believe it or not and start to smolder lol. But I love this body style Mercedes. Still my absolute favorite. I had a 1998 S500 in white with the s600 seat stitching but in the solid light creamy tan color. In 1997 the did another small facelift. The got rid of the amber colored rear blinkers and made them the white silver color to match the lower part of the reflector band. And also upgraded to auto leveling bi xenon headlamps as a factory option which mine had. Made the car just a tad bit crisper looking and modernized it perfectly for the remaining few years it was in production.

      @@garrettdodson6110 Yes I am fully aware of that now. Expensive repair but worth it for this car. I am aware of the mirrors. Does the wiring run inside the car as well or is it just for the inner workings of the mirrors?

    What's your future plan for this W140 S600?

    • @rubinhoward7309
      @rubinhoward7309  Před 4 lety +1

      I intend on keeping this car for a while. You would be hard-pressed to find another local example that shows itself in a condition similar to this. Yes there are lower milage cars, but to me that takes away from the enjoyment factor. I like to drive my cars and use them as intended to. This car is pure proof that you can enjoy a car and still drive it if you take care of it. 123,000 pampered miles. The car just received new spark plugs and wires. Soon I will go to replacing the accumulators and shocks for the rear hydraulic self leveling suspension system. All still works as intended, but preventative maintenance.

    • @1koolkat76
      @1koolkat76 Před 4 lety +1

      Rubin Howard. I have a 1997 w140 s600 as well. I bought the car about 2yrs ago for $1500. With about 124,000 original miles on it From my local Craiglist here in bayarea. I did lots of preventative maintenance. There was 3 previous owner but none of them did any maintenance except changing the oil. I literally brought the car back to “Mercedes standard”. I did all of the maintenance myself except the ac pump that went out on me. The car still needs abit if work but it drives beautifully. My plan now, is to do an “AMG Tribute” car. I have the original AMG body kit that I got last year. I got some rare parts that are no longer made like the rear side window sunshades, the foot rest vents, the front parking/flag poles, the Becker radio with remote control, original Bosch clear turn signals, front telephone holder, and the original navigation monitor which attach to the front console. Looking forward to your future updates for the S600.

      @@1koolkat76 People get scared by V12 maintenance. It's not that bad. The AMG kit is cool. I as well am getting rear window sun shades for the car. I am looking for front flag poles as well. I have the original radio and phone along with all the home kit accessories for that. The Navi monitor - is that the Japanese spec you are describing? The ultimate for me would be the cloth curtains.

      Rubin Howard. There is lots of information on how to do stuff on CZcams regarding working on the s600. The latest work that I did was replacing the rear hydraulic shocks. It took me about 4 hours or so to do it right. Once you’re familiar on how to wok on the m120 engine. It’s somewhat easy. I only drive the car every weekend or so. I’m planing also to put some rear door curtains as well. I kept all of the receipts and paperwork’s in a binder. If I do ever decide to sell it. The new owner with have a peace of mind. Knowing that the car is we’ll taken care of. You can find some flag poles on eBay from time to time. I’m still looking the the AMG BBS Aero II wheels and the AMG exhaust. Once I have all of the parts then I’ll start putting them all together.
