  • In this video, we show you how we took care of some of the little jobs that back up and pile up. We installed 12-volt switches, put hinges on the bed so that we can reach our under bed storage, and worked on our closets a bit more.

    wow every week that bus is looking more and more complete. Amazing progress guys! I'm about at the same spot on my build, give or take a few things. I can't wait for it to get done! Wish I had a Jaco of my own to do all the complicated electrical things haha.

    if you watch Knapp Time Build they talk about why you shouldn't ground AC to the bus and keep it isolated from DC grounds and found some good ways to isolate it all.
    Install a dehumidifier, set a timer so it runs thought out the week, and especially if you store the bus for more than a couple weeks.
    Old RV's or older van builds are dank for that reason alone.

      That is a great idea with the dehumidifier! We will have to check out that video thank you!

    Try removable loctite thread locker for all your screws and bolts in the bus.

  • @watahyahknow
    @watahyahknow Před 3 lety +1

    a simple way to lock down the screws on the 1 way switches is putting a nut on the screws from the back of the connection . that allso prevents you from stripping the tread when you tighten them too mush
    verry small trick when you need a smooth edge of the cutline (usually the tape works good actually maibe you need a different toothcount ) keep the nice side on the underside when cutting , the saw cuts on the upstroke so there should be less tearout

      That makes a lot of sense we will remember that! Yeah it took us a while to figure that out about the saw but I think we are getting it! Thank you!

    Another EXCELLENT Episode @MEREDITH and PACO!!!! We absolutely LOVE how your Skoolie design is coming along! Such a sleek flow and great to see you two love birds working together so well on projects! Very inspiring to follow! Even though you don't have the exact fridge you want right now, you can always get it in the future when it becomes available. That's part of the fun with building a Skoolie is figuring out how to make everything fit, getting what you want in your home, and making it exactly what you want! We're so proud of y'all and your progress and look forward to seeing you out in the wild!

    Great video as usual. We are building out a bus as well and soon will be working on the electrical. Is there a particular reason why you grounded everything to the underside of the bus? Are there other options for grounding...like inside on a rib?

    • @GustheStruggleBus
      @GustheStruggleBus  Před 3 lety

      Hey! That is awesome! You can ground it inside you just have to leave a spot open to doing that, we forgot lol. Thank you so much!

    So fun and exciting watching that live! And so excited for how your build is going. We are having the same trouble with trying to do debt free and things being out of stock when we go to purchase. We finally got one of our two maxx air fans, but waiting to get our second one. We will all get there though :) !!!

    Did you ground your 120AC to the frame of the bus? If so, that has a potential for problems. I see in the vid you ran a ground to the frame, just don't know where it came from. Also, all cables / wires passing through metal should have a grommet at minimum or a seal tight fitting, to prevent vibration causing the sheath on the cable to be cut through the the edge of the metal. I noticed in a couple of vids your not doing that. You'll regret it.
    Also, the flat washer you put under the lock washers on the switches, are on the edge of the insulation box of the switch, (6.26 of the vid) this means only one edge of your terminal eye is making good contact. In low voltage DC it may not be a problem but why not just do it right? If you're really concerned about vibrations, don't use the flat washers. I personally have never had a fastener come loose from using a flat washer but there is debate about the flat washers ability to slip, negating the effect of the lock washer. You could just use a tiny drop of loc tite.
    Just a tip, I noticed when you cut the switch plate with the jig saw you used tape to try to eliminate "rip out", put the face of the board down when using a jig saw, the up stroke of the blade does the cutting and that is when "rip out" occurs. Same principle applies to any saw, you want the direction of the blade to cut into the face.
    I'm not trying to be an a$$, I know ya'll are learning and having a great adventure just in the build itself. I've been doing similar work for 35 years. I have my own bus which I haven't started on yet, and I hope to see ya'll out there traveling, all safe a sound. So I am just pointing out things I see which may be issues. If you want I can email you my number and I can explain to you why these may create problems for you and will be glad to answer any question you may have about anything.

      Thank you so much for all of your helpful tips!! you make a great point on the switches, we will put some blue loctite on those just for extra security. the 120v lines go to the breaker box which then goes to the inverter. we will have to remember the saw tips next time we cut anything, because it'll make the world of difference. thank you again for the amazing tips and we will be putting them to good use!!
