Encanto is a 2021 American computer-animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The 60th film produced by the studio.
At the 94th Academy Awards, the film has been nominated for Best Animated Feature, while its score and track "Dos Oruguitas" contend for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, respectively. This is the music video which differs from Surface Pressure (From "Encanto"/Lyric Video) and Various Artists - Surface Pressure (In 21 Languages) (From "Encanto").

Alternatively, I don't think Delores was throwing shade Mirabel's way at all. Rather, Mirabel is just Mirabel to her, and whether or not she has a gift doesn't change the fact that she loves her.
If I heard you correctly you said Isabella, the flower girl, is the middle child? She isn't. She's actually the oldest grandchild being iirc 21. Dolores, hearing girl, is a few months younger. Next is the powerful Luisa, who's 19. Camilo and Mirabel are 15, with Camilo again being a few months older. And finally little Antonio turned 5 years old on the day this song took place.
The gift ceremony is held on the kids 5th birthday.
A LOT of people sort of assume Luisa is the oldest and Isabela is middle. Probably at least in part because of all the talk about heavy responsibility of an older sibling, in Surface Pressure.

The songs make SO MUCH more sense in the context if the movie. It is a true musical in that the songs tell significant parts of the story.

This is NOT the song Lin submitted for the Oscars. That song is “Dos Oruguitas”. Lin’s reasoning was “although ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ is an absolute banger we wanted a song that fully capsulated what the movie was about/a song that better represents the movie as a whole.”

I don't have Disney+ (actually I don't have ANY streaming services) so I've never seen the movie in its entirety, but as I said somewhere in response to another comment, I've watched about 15 reactions to it, each with different edits, plus I've seen all the songs, both by themselves and tons of reactions, so I think I can safely say I know how the movie goes, though I'm sure there are some specific scenes I've never seen.
You've offered a few speculations based on the three songs you've reacted to so far, some correct, some not so much. :) Clearly you really should watch the movie, if you can. It's worth it, I feel, even for people who dismiss it as a "kid's movie." Because, while of course it's a kid's movie, there's a lot of depth and some surprisingly heavy themes, just like most Disney movies. Actually, this is one of the few Disney movies in which the main protagonist isn't a half-orphan. Mirabel's parents are awesome. But the family isn't without its tensions, as shown by "Surface Pressure."
I want you to watch the movie without knowing too much in advance, so I'd strongly recommend that, if you ever intend to watch the whole thing, you do so before you get more than one or two more songs down. You've already had one major spoiler just learning the Mirabel wasn't given a gift when she was five, like all the older members of the family after Abuela Alma.

• Mirabel actually has been avoiding her gift the whole song (ex. She avoided the gift question by directing it to her family)
• Its funny that bruno was named oscar but they changed it to bruno because of the no-no-no in we dont talk about bruno

Mirabels voice actress was in LABOR when she sang the song that comes after this one in the movie and had a baby that evening. So more than just pregnant...

Definitely would love if you reacted to the other songs. The Casita aka their house isn't (as far as I know) anyones gift, it's just alive and helps the family, because of the miracle that gave them gifts.
I'd argue that Casita is *everyone's* gift, which is why the central plot is about what happens to it. ;D

This movie is based around a very popular literary movement in latin america, magical realism.
In it, you bring very fantastical elements to a day to day kind of setting.
One of the most famous examples is "The House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende. In which they have an unnaturally beautiful woman, her sister who can see the future and a super freaking weird dog/crocodile/bear creature. And then you have literally all the political inestability of the eras, earthquakes and normal lives for most characters.
I don't really reccomend it, it kind of dragged on a bit too much and got a bit spoilery sometimes. But I do recommend reading the synopsis. Because latin american literature is not talked about enough.
This movie is AMAZING!!!!!
Tbh I think you would really enjoy the movie should you choose to watch it. It's an extraordinarily moving film, and one with a very applicable message for all ages, even though it's technically a kid's film.

One of my favorite things about Encanto is that while Mirabel is our entrance to her family, the story is not about Mirabel.
It is and it isn't. It's about the family as a whole and the problems of family expectations. But Mirabel is the central character that the movie revolves around.

@@YoBGS You'd have to do some heavy editing but I've watched about 15 reactions to the movie as a whole now - they range between 35-75 minutes, some of which is the reactors reacting. None of them post the uncut movie but you can post enough to follow.

The family's powers do NOT come from Bruno. Bruno is an uncle, who has "disappeared" because of his own powers (he sees the future). You utterly confused me with the Benjamin Button comment - no one goes both ways in time/age. They have a shapeshifter, and a kid who will get his gift the evening of this song, and those are the characters that were mentioned just before you made the comment, but I don't get the comment. ..?
