    Hey man, just wanted to thank you for this detailed video. I got a 06 Tj and needed to wire it up for my trailer I just purchased. I had no clue on what the hell to do on the wiring, until I saw this video. Big help bro much appreciated!

    Please note: If your vehicle has separate turn signals and brake lights, this type of wiring will not work. The 4 prong trailer wiring harness is designed to work with vehicles that have brake lights that also function as turn signals.

      Maybe not so much that a 4prong simply won't work...but you're going to be replacing bulbs every week.

    Thanks Justin. I'm wiring my 95 Toyota wagon so I can pull my 1960 Glasspar Marathon 14' boat with a 1970 - 60 hp Johnson
    Your instructions are pretty simple and straight forward. I already scoped out some harnesses at the auto store and looked at my wiring so I could understand what you were talking about. Doing my homework finally helped, I understood the teacher.
    Hubba Hubba.
    PS, the Toyota is a temporary thing.

      What you do is tap a wire from the brake lite to the turn signal on the same side probly about 2" depending on how far apart they are that way when you punch the brakes it will send power to the turn signal which will be both bright

      @@r.seaboats6666 that will not work. You would be connecting the brake light circuit to the blinker circuit. The lights would no longer be separate and you'll blow the fuse for the blinker. You need the 3 to 2 wire converter that motorvader mentioned

    I used this exact wiring harness on my 2004 Toyota Tacoma. I had an issue though where both left and right blinkers worked fine, but I couldn't figure how to wire both the running lights and brake lights. My truck has a wire for each left turn, right turn, running lights and brake lights. The harness only has three connections essentially because the white is ground. Any tips on how to use this harness to get both the running lights working and brake lights when you put your foot on the brake pedal?

    Maybe a dumb question, i am about to wire a trailer and install lights with a 4 flat. I couldn't find an OEM harness on my truck, so i am hard splicing into wiring like you did. I metered out my ground, left turn, right turn, and running lights, and a 12v wire when i press the brake on my truck. My question is though, where do i hook up the brake wire to the harness? I obviously know where the ground, turns, and running lights go, but how will the trailer know when i hit the brake? I appreciate the help.

      My trailer has 2 bulbs and 3 filaments.
      For me to wire my brake lights through my turn signals, like no vehicle ever, would make my brake lights glow brighter (and burn the fuck out fyi) rather than how every vehicle works which is flash on and off completely, rahter than flash brighter and less brighter.

    • @williamvolenec53
      @williamvolenec53 Před 4 lety

      If you have a vehicle that features a brake light bulb seperate from the turn signal bulb, a 4-pin connector isn't going to do the trick. This is the source of everyone's problem when wiring for trailer lights!

      It's a circuit tester. You can get one at your local auto parts store. They are very inexpensive. One end has a wire and alligator clip and the other end has a metal prong. I sharpened the prong so I was able to penetrate the wire coating.
