How to install 4 pin trailer wiring on your car or truck. Fast and Easy!

  • Since I've been working on the new trailer I have here, I figured I'd better add wiring to the truck so that I can use it at night.
    Installing these isn't hard, but you want to make sure you get the right kit for your car. Some are 4 pin with no adaptor, and others require a box like this one for everything to power up correctly.

    Nice video. Appreciate your delivery and pace. I would recommend disconnecting the battery when making any electrical changes to a vehicle, especially when splicing into existing wiring. While low voltage is rarely a risk to you, there is a potential to cause an issue with the electrical system of the vehicle.

    • @___Karma__
      @___Karma__ Před 6 dny

      Agree. Always disconnect the negative on the battery when working on electrical components. That being said the scotch connectors he used to "splice" aren't the traditional method and when paired with the led identification tool that came with his kit it's a safe and fool proof installation. Quality and how long it will last is another question. I'm just going to buy the OEM plugs and wire them in myself. Trailer plugs are abused and need to be rough, I'm sure by now he is no longer using zip ties to hold the connector 😂

      Thanks for the kind words. In this case, keeping the battery plugged in is to help the tech determine what wire does what with the test light.

    I would absolutely love to find a VW pickup like you have. I keep looking for one used. If I could find one with the same diesel that my VW rabbit had and a 5 speed I would be golden!!! Use to get 55 MPG with the 4 speed. My coworker had the same with a 5 speed and was getting 60 MPG around town and 65-70 on the highway. Boy I really miss that car. I always wished I had the pickup version of it. It was a simple easy to work on vehicle.

      I hope you find one! They really are great Trucks. Mine is a gas 1.8L with a highway geared 5 speed and 30+ MPG is not a problem. I owned a 1.6L NA 4 speed Diesel one for a few years and it was slow, but man that thing was a fuel saver. May I suggest you get one sooner rather than later? They are getting harder to find everyday.

      @Farpoint Farms Restorations and Repairs yes any of them in PA are generally rusted out. The place I worked at, several mechanics had the VW diesels and they taught me how to tweak them to milk the mpgs out of them. I miss the simplicity of them. I had a VW bug in the mid 80's and it was one of the simplest cars I ever worked on. That being said, I have learned quite a bit from your videos on the bug and the bus.

    Great video! This is what I have been looking for. Do you have a link to the kit that you bought? If not, what is the manufacturer and model number? I wish there was a "zoom and enhance" feature to see how you applied the scotch locks. Some of the other harnesses for newer vehicles cost upwards of $100 and require you to connect directly to the battery. Is either way better? Thanks!

    I had a ‘90 Corrado for about 18 years and had some good punch!!
    Think it had 160 stock horsepower and I did all the service on it. So simple, clutches, 15-20 minute supercharger replacements.
