    A good hack for running the wires down the tongue. Just run a tape measure down the tube and out the other side then lock it, go to the other and and tape your wires to the end of it, then go back, unlock it and pull the wires back through. Works every time and everyone has a tape measure.

    You don't like the wire nuts on account they are not water tight. But a trick I learned years ago while wiring outside stuff with wire nuts is to squirt just a dab of 100% silicone into the nut & then put my wires together twisting them into the nut snug n tight & presto they are now water tight.

    Somebody probably already mentioned this, but the only error I saw, was you installed the license plate holder backwards. The clear plastic window on the left tail light is to illuminate your license plate at night. The plate holder, needs to be installed in reverse (to how you did it), so the license plate is under the clear plastic window. Other than that, Good Job.

    Thank for for explaining "HOW" to do the proper connections. When searching for "How to", wiring diagrams shows "where", to run wires, NOT "How". I know its simple but still when yo google "How" you get a bunch of diagrams that show where to "run" the wires but not actually "How" to hook up tail, and plate lights. Showing how to include Running lights would make this complete

    If a tow vehicle has seperate turn signals, i put the extra lights on to accomodate. I very much dislike using the electronic adaptors because its just another thing to fail. The seperate turn signal system is also a superior design, so why not use it?
    I also always go for interior trailer connectors. I also keep the trailer end in an enclosed box when not in use. Theres nothing like clean connectors to maintain reliablity.

    Don't forget that the metal bolts on the back of the lights have to make good electrical contact with the metal on the trailer. That completes the electrical connection via a ground. So, if the trailer is rusted at the point where those metal bolts connect to the trailer, you may want to remove the rust first. Also, if the holes that the bolts go through are too big, there may be no electrical connection. That was the case on my trailer, and I ended up fashioning an aluminum bracket with smaller holes to the back of the lights, and then grounded the bracket itself to the trailer by drilling a smaller hole through both the bracket and the trailer and fastening with a third bolt.

    • @massis32210

      Nick Lozowy I didn't explain the inside of the properly, there are two channels inside of it. One runs all the way through, and one just goes half way through. you slip the wire that you want to tap power from in the long grove and the other wire goes in the short slot. in the middle of it is a metal blade like thing that you would squeeze down with a set of pliers and then it would Pierce both wires just insulation enough to send power from one wire to the other one without having to actually physically cut both of them. I have used them in the past but I personally don't like them I've had them cut wires completely in half and if you do use one I would recommend putting the heat shrink on before using it a large enough one that you could heat shrink the whole thing to keep it waterproof

      The white wire which is ground that comes off the harness normally what I'll do is drill a very tiny hole and use a self-tapping screw with an eyelid on the wire and ground it right straight to the trailer.

    • @massis32210

      @larrytillman1188 Před 6 lety +1

      I am sure you have figured it out by now, but some of the lights have to ground at the mounting bolts, so you have to clean the metal so the nut or bolt makes a good connection.

      Sorry for the late response if it came with two ground wires they should run back to the light and ground down to the post that would secure the light to the trailer but try grounding the trailer out first that might work if you have any questions just respond

    • @massis32210
      @massis32210  Před 7 lety

      marcos garcia I would start by checking the vehicle wiring harness for the lights. if that checks out I would check the wires on the trailer to see if you have any cuts in the wire. is this a new to you trailer? and do you have another trailer to test your truck wiring?

    • @massis32210
      @massis32210  Před 7 lety +1

      marcos garcia start out by checking the ground on the trailer itself . then I would start out by checking the vehicle wiring it's going to turn out to be one or the 2 but I'm starting to suspect that it could be the vehicle wiring. get another trailer of somebody else's and try it . the last resort that I would recommend is possibly going to a U-Haul dealer and having their mechanics check out the wiring or any significant shop
