I remember when I asked to draft to Magav, after 2002 operation, it was really hard.
In every one place, Five were compiled.

I have a question: an Israeli who studied in a military high school and then made his 3 year long service in the IDF, is he obligated to serve/work in the military field? ... Or is he free to study at the University another subject and to choose another career ... ? Toda!

Usually they have to serve few years more than others, depends on their job and rank. After those years they can choose to continue serve or to release.
During that time of service they can go to university- usually they will be offered few options from which they can choose (economics, international relations etc).

אני חושב שאצלי זה תלוי בשם הפועל. בחלק אני משתמש בצורה התקנית כמו בדוגמה שנתת אז אני אומר דבר בבקשה, אבל בשם הפועל "להעביר" אני אשתמש בצורת העתיד "תעביר לי בבקשה את המלח"

Also, the IDF was way ahead of its time compared to the American military. I heard that gays can serve in your military with no problem, but for a long time, America had the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which is quite backward.

I have a unique question. I was born in Israel in 1979 to parents that made Aliyah and was given an Israeli Passport and ID #. However my parents moved back to the USA before my 1st birthday. So I am now 44 years old and have never been back to Israel. But I am unsure at my age what obligations I still might have with Israel. I have heard scary stories about people being thrown in jail. I would like to visit the country of my birth as a tourist now that I have the money to do so., but I have many work obligations in the USA and cannot spend much time satisfying the IDF obligation. I have found conflicting stories online about whether this should be a concern or not. If possible I'd like to renew my Israeli passport with a baby photo on it. If there is a way to volunteer some time here and there I could be open to that as well. I just need to get better information about whether I would be detained or not at the airport and what I need to do to legally fix my situation. Any help appreciated.

I have a similar story. I was born in Israel in the 70s moved to the US as a young child and returned to visit my birth land for the first time in my 40s. I did not have any problems. I got an Israeli passport before traveling. I think if you're over 40 years old they won't bother you, but you should confirm when you get your Israeli passport.

It's a little bit more complicated than that...but in theory it's possible
@@PieceofHebrew But, people do not have to pretend to be religious for an exemption. If they really do not want to serve, there are many easier ways to get out.
Very easy to check. But that’s not the core of the matter. People are PATRIOTS. The country 🇮🇱 is under constant threat! When you have ennemies who keep repeating on a daily basis that they want to wipe you out of the map, that makes you terribly aware of the danger! Nothing to be compared with Western countries. People don’t try to skip away! They know the price. Rockets rarely stop falling on Israel.

Deepens on sex and age. Usually at that age girls shouldn't join the army but i recommend you to check with official entity like the Jewish agency. Good luck!

בתור דתיה לאומית (גם דתיה וגם יותר פתוחה לעולם המודרני), זה מה זה מעצבן אותי שרוב החרדים לא מתגייסים. הם אומרים שזה כי קשה להם לשמור על מצוות בצבא, אבל זה סתם תרוץ. אני מכירה בחור חרדי (מאוד ציוני) שהתגייס לצבא כ"צ'ובניק" וממלא תפקיד קשור למחשבים/היי-טק. תמיד אפשר למצוא פתרון כשיש רצון.
It is not סתם a תרוץ. There is much תערובת with women in the army that is not meant for חרדים. Also not all the officers, even in the נחל חרדי, let their soldiers put הלחה first as all יהודים are supposed to do. And personally, regardless how much we love ארץ ישראל, it is getting harder and harder to support the Israeli government which is getting more and more liberal, forcing fake Reformism (which equals liberalism under the guise of reformed Judaism) into equal footing with the רבנות who follow halacha. . So even the non-anti-Zioni Chareidim should be concerned serving such a government. For Chareidim, Toarah and halacha are number one and this is what is keeping the Jewish nation alive throughout the ages. Although I aand most Chareidim appreciate the the soldiers in the IDF we will always put Torah and Halacha first.

הדבר המרכזי מבחינת החרדים זה שהאידיאל מבחינתם הוא ללמוד תורה בישיבה כל היום וזה משהו שלא משתלב עם שירות צבאי
כמו שאמרתי בסרטון, יש חרדים שכן משרתים בצבא, וכמו שאת כתבת אם יש רצון מוצאים את הדרך.

Hi Doron thank you for this video. I heard that the Sherut in Israel was very important in terms of social and professional integration. Many brilliant men and women aimed at entering elite units (golan units for example) to have very good job perspectives. Thank you for providing this video. I was wondering, why don't the Haredim just do sherut le'umi, in their own neighborhoods? That way they wouldn't have to leave their way of life AND they would be able to serve their country. I don't think it's fair to not do your part. For example, if a person is disabled and can't serve, that's one thing, but I shouldn't have to pay taxes for someone else not to do their part if they are able to do so.

The main reason for men is that they want to dedicate their lives to the Torah studying in the Yeshiva. The structure of the political system in Israel gives lots of power to the charedim and therefore they reached that agreement not to serve; nor to do sherut leumi.
Though; it's important to say that volunteering in general takes a big part in the life of the charedim.

שכחת לציין שיש שלושה סוגים, לוחמים, תומכי לחימה ואז ג׳ובניקים. כל מעמד מקבל תעודת שחרור שונה וזה לא נכון להגיד שתומכי לחימה הם ג׳ובניקים.
