saw him playing outside the hale koa military hotel about 25 years ago, I was the only one there and had no idea who he was, he played me every cover I requested with his ukulele and I tipped him well and bought 2 of his CD's and a shirt, has been a staple favorite of mine ever since.
Iz was one of the nicest people i ever had the pleasure of meeting, he came to my class to teach us ukulele when i was a kid and loved spending time with us. Iz is over the rainbow bridge now, but still in my heart
The first time I heard this song was on a trip to Maui as we were driving out of the Marriott in Kaanapali on our way to spend the morning snorkeling in Kapalua. The air was clean, the sky was clear, the mountains were beautiful, the ocean was perfect, and it smelled like Paradise…the moment was already perfect, but Bruddah Iz made it magical…
Still breaks my heart that he's gone he was such an inspiration to my singing when I was in highschool. I still like to kick back with a beer in my hand on a warm day and just close my eyes while White Sandy Beaches plays or this and it hits close to home I live 30 minutes from West Virginia lol
I'd never heard of this man until today when someone recommended I tried 'Over the Rainbow' and from that I found this. I've always loved this song and love it even more now - my feet are tapping away, It won't be the last time I listen to it. You can feel down, listening to this! RIP big fella!
My Hub and I were lucky to visit Hawaii for our 20th wedding anniv. in 2007. We blessed to learn about Bruddah IZ and LOVE his music and mourn him. We live in Ohio, and it's very cold and consistent gray cloudy days in the Winter...I put Bruddah IZ on, and I am back "Home" in the beautiful Hawaiian Islands...He saves my soul !! =) I am also a John Denver fan, so this is extra cool!
This and the Toots and the Maytals cover are the best versions of this song. Toots did West Jamaica and this guy did somewhere in Hawaii. It's a shame this guy died, but he did leave his mark on the world through his music. Hawaii seems like a great place to live. I wonder if I'll ever get there in my lifetime. It's only 5 time zones away.
I was stationed at westlock nineteen eighty one I miss hawaii so much. I had a girlfriend there named Evelyn. I still think about her. I miss her beautiful smile and her long black hair😢
Try and listen to this song standing on the beach he's single about I dam near tear up looking out at the land and ocean knowing where losing the real hawaii to the modern era
Bruddah Iz sending out love to you today... your music lives on bringing smiles daily to many people across the world. I hope whomever is waiting for us afterward took you home.
I remember baba b sang this at the shell on iz birthday and half way through the song 3000 people turned to see a rainbow over diamond head. Something I’ll never forget
Yay This reminds me of a time when I lived at waimanalo beach, Hawaii, as a child, when we met so many neighbors and friends of various ethnicities. My dad was in the US Navy then , yet our wonderful Hawaiian neighbors accepted us lovingly into their community. My first (and only) luau! Karen (Dan’s mom). P. S. Thanks to my son Dan for allowing me to share his CZcams account!
I love this! I've never been to Hawaii, but hopeful I will someday. I do love the sea. I feel like it's a piece of me. I am a mermaid. This is the first time I've heard of this artist and I really like his voice. I like John Denver but I really say that this version hits me in the heart :) RIP LZ Israel.
I'm putting together a little playlist. It started out as a tropical/beach playlist, but then I started adding relaxing country music to it (it's the music I want to play if I'm ever able to pick up my best friend and go for a drive; he's facing life without parole for something he didn't do). This song makes the perfect nexus between the tropical music and the country music!
Iz is fucking amazing!!! As beautifully as he sang it, I can't listen to his rendition of Over the Rainbow cause it brings me to tears cause it reminds me of my mom who passed back in 2014. Iz is the man
Same here. My mon died on 2016 and over the rainbow was played on her funeral because she loved this song so much. Still like to listen to it sometimes. But it's hard
Cant have anything good without the communists trying to claim it for their own. Examples: This song, the original, Cuba, rights, and nuclear weapons. JK man, just practicing for when im an angry old man!

What a beautiful person inside and out.God bless us with him Israel Kamakawiwoole and now he's back in heaven 🙏
I bought this album as a CD while on holiday in Hawaii, but never got to hear him live. I'm glad this is here.
