Fania Brantsovsky (Brancovskaja), the librarian of the Vilnius Yiddish Institute retells, in Yiddish, her years living and fighting among the Jewish Partisans from Vilna after her escape from the Vilna ghetto as we visit the Partisan fort in which she lived. This film was taken during the 2008 summer course at the Vilnius Yiddish Institute in the Rudnitsker/Rudnikai forest. Ms. Brantsovksy is a former Partisan escaped from the Vilna (Wilno Poland, now Vilnius Lithuania) ghetto an hour before its liquidation. Today as the librarian of the Vilnius Yiddish Institute she works to pass on the inheritance of Yiddish culture to the next generation. She leads numerous tours of Jewish and Holocaust related sites in Lithuania. Eliot Palevsky who is translating Fania's words into English is the son of Jewish Partisans from the Vilnius region.
Coincidentally this was filmed in the same area where the Hollywood movie "Defiance" about the Bielski brothers was filmed. They lived, however, in Belarus.
