That was the biggest surprise to me. I was a psychology/social work major (I have dual degrees), and I REALLY had to hide my conservative beliefs to get through college. Seeing a professor doing this is jaw-dropping to me.

She's actually not that educated on the subject. She played into a lot of anti gun rhetoric and terminology that further allows people to be misinformed on guns. For example, stating she owns an assault rifle. In which she does not. An AR-15 is not an "assault rifle" 🤦🏽♂️ but by simply stating that, the general public now thinks soooo they are assault rifles..why does anyone need an assault rifle? Who are they assaulting? Because the name alone insinuates that it is meant to assault something or someone. And for that purpose alone, "nobody should have one" because it's only meant to do "bad" things.

She delivered her concepts with intelligence and kindness; a Win-Win for everyone in that class.
Occasionally, when people discuss guns, in a negative light, or fundamentally say, "Guns are Bad", I remind them that "Pa Ingalls" from "Little House on the Prairie", owned Shotguns, to protect his Family from harm; whether that harm came from animals or humans.

NO VIEWERS were saying,

This professor does this in his class a lot. He does a great job trying to encourage thinking. He does a lot of conversations about race, and stereotypes.
That professor is really good at setting up and mediating healthy debates. I think college kids would benefit a ton from listening to opposing viewpoints and challenging their own viewpoints.
That doctor is amazing that's what education should look like I had a teacher mr napper that was like this. We discussed ideas. I hated school but I loved his class. We took notes all week and would take a 20 question test on Friday. And had court in class and police in class that would hand out tickets for doing th8ngs we shouldn't. And we would be able to give our case and have a jury decide our fate. And we got to see that power would be abused alot. Certain people would hand out more tickets than some and all that and discuss it. I found him on fb and told him how much I loved his class. Amazing teacher. Tauggt me so much about history and our government.

When we decide to own a gun it is not only about exercising our own individual liberty but also accepting the responsibility of owning one and using it responsibly. These are 2 very important concepts that are part of what we now call classical liberalism; individual liberty and personal responsibility. When we own a gun we are exercising our right to be able to defend ourselves from anything that may seek to do us harm and being able to bring to bear equal or greater force against those who would do us harm, but with the freedom to do that comes also the burden of being responsible in it's use and only using it when needed. Most of us do it as well as a means to accept the burden of protecting not just ourselves, but also our communities at large as well, a true citizen of this country would gladly take on that burden as was explained in the Federalist papers and the reason our founders saw we needed to ensure the right to bear arms was protected. It was not just a way to make sure an individual could protect themselves from harm but a way for people to band together, aka a militia, should a threat arise large enough that the community had to rise up against it, be it a foreign invader or a tyrannical government. That is the part people in our modern world have lost, that we have rights given to us by our creator, but in order to keep those rights, we have the responsibility to protect those rights whenever they are threated by force. Being a citizen of this country comes with the added responsibility of defending it to ensure that we not only get to keep our rights but they are there for the future generations, and statistically speaking only about 3% of any population is willing to do that. Make no mistake there are plenty of nations around the world that want nothing more than to see this great country torn down in anyway they can do it, and one of those ways is through force. The right to keep and bear arms is the main reason most nations would never even consider invading the US because as was said by the Japanese Admiral Yamamoto during WWII, “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass”. In a Modern world you will hear people say all the time gun ownership is not a deterrent to foreign invaders, because untrained rabble would not be able to repel an invading military force. To that idea I give two points. The first is simply looking at Afghanistan. They have outlasted and finally forced both the US and Russia to withdraw after decades of fighting. Second, people who say this forget we have over 17 million veterans in this country, while only about half of them are still able bodied enough to fight, those who can't fight still have the ability to train others quickly in how to fight, and over 8 million able bodied and armed vets where at least 1-2 million of them have seen combat with access to over 400 million weapons, it is more of a deterrent than anyone actually realizes, especially when you see even the largest army in the world in China only has 2 million soldiers.

The professor cited Columbia as a country where firearms are not readily available, I'd love to hear his explanation as to why the firearm homicide rate there is about four times higher than the US.
Owning a gun has nothing to do with having a feeling of power, guns are tools that a person should know how to use them properly and safely!

This Professor is excellent, and demonstrates the proper way to teach. His channel is Soc 119. His teaching method is called the 'Socratic' method, which is opposite of what almost all school systems around the world use, which are called 'Prussian' based education systems. What most people don't know about our Prussian based education systems, is that they are DELIBERATELY designed to omit critical thinking skills. They are designed not to enlighten people, but keep them subordinate and dependent. If anyone wants to know where most of the world's problems occur, ...it's K-12.

It's a shame that she didn't use Philadelphia as a case study. It's incredibly hard to legally own and carry a weapon in Philadelphia, yet people get shot dead all of the time.
You are allowed to CC in Philly just like the rest of the state. There are just two problems: 1. Too many Federally-managed sites in Old City where the feds get to infringe your right and 2. Hard to actually BUY one in the city. Your carry permit is "shall issue", even in Philly County, and then buy your gun in the 'burbs. Oh, but no open carry.

It's not just for home defense! My state has the Castle law where the vehicle is an extension of your home so you can defend it as such. Thank God for that too because I dealt with a road ranger few years back and I was genuinely scared for my life. He had stopped his vehicle in front of me and got out and approached me. I didn't have anyone else with me, and the man was yelling and cussing and obviously intended to do something! He came right up to my driver side window he had one hand in his pocket. It was genuinely terrifying I don't know if he had a weapon but it's very likely he did cuz who does that?! So I grabbed my firearm and put it against the door. I don't even remember what his face looked like because all I was watching was that hand in the pocket. If he had pulled a weapon or open my door or try to break my window to get to me... It would not have ended well for him. He looked through the window and saw it. His entire demeanor changed he was no longer yelling and cussing at me he dropped his shoulders almost with this sense of dread. I could see the fear wash over him when he realized what I had pointed at his chest. He stepped backed away from my vehicle and left. There is no telling what he could have done to me if I had not had the means to protect myself. We NEED guns

Fighting wars to protect your nation, capital punishment, and self-defense are supported in the Bible. Murder is not condoned, and is defined as taking the life of an innocent person.

I've seen many of this professor's classes online... I may not always agree with him but he seems to be very fair, open minded and reasonable... If I had a child going to Penn State they would, for certain, take at least one course from this man... Great teacher.

This is at Penn State!! I am a proud alumni and proud conservative millennial. =) The young woman has a bright future ahead of her. Rather than be forceful, she helped educate and enlighten everyone in that lecture hall.
What a great girl!, he couldn’t have called up a better person to represent and speak for the subject at hand.
I've seen quite a number of Dr. Richards' lectures on CZcams and I've got to tell this headline is misleading. I can't imagine him being stunned by much of anything. He is a master of teaching by dialogue, getting students to open up and discuss the things they may believe for the purposes of comparing and contrasting different ways of thinking about things. What surprises me is that his style of teaching critical thinking is allowed in a university that has a rep for being part of the woke establishment.
I have watched this professor on a video about teaching his kids what were white privilege actually is and what they thought it was. He's a truly amazing professor❤

@MrDevinGlbson-If the criminals never know who is armed, they'd be less likely to commit the crimes for fear of their lives.
Not only will the NRA stand up for your 2nd Amendment rights,but so will other corporations and organizations such as the American Legion and VFW. Look them up. Join if you are eligible and help keep the 2nd Amendment strong forever!
@MrDevinGlbson- I am an Army veteran and member of the American Legion. There are many parts of our constitution that we hold dear, defend, and practice on a daily basis. There are MANY examples we can use where firearms actually saved lives against criminals and evil people. Taking away guns will not prevent murder. There are knives, swords, bow and arrow, etc. that can be used in their place, but imagine a world where a bigger, stronger person weilds such a weapon! A firearm acts as an equalizer to unlawful force and desired harm by evil people and criminals, and in many cases, a deterrent for would-be crimes.
There are much better options than the NRA.
SOC 119 is well worth watching . He teaches kids to think about controversial subjects, not tell them how/what to think .
