FYI.. Snapdragon Sound refers to an audio and software processing infrastructure developed by Qualcomm, focusing on robust and low latency Bluetooth connectivity and leveraging the aptX Adaptive codec. AptX Adaptive will “adapt” the audio quality seamlessly and continuously based on the strength back to the source’s device to maintain a good wireless connection and avoid audio dropouts. This means that for a great wireless connection, you can get the highest possible audio quality up to and including “lossless” audio. The normal sampling rate applicable in your Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds is 44.1 kHz and will adapt up to 48.1 kHz when “high resolution” listening. The codec also has a low latency mode, aka “Gaming Mode.” Just as with audio quality, the codec will “adapt” to achieve the best (lowest) latency possible given the current wireless conditions.
Does this technology affect everything you listen to or do you have to listen on certain platforms? I'm confused
This helps everything you listen to sound better. But that doesn't mean it gives you lossless for all. The better quality you feed to the earbuds the better quality you get up to lossless 😉
I think Bose got the reference to 48kHz wrong. These use the QCC5181 which introduced lossless up to 16-bit 48kHz. This is not hi-res. It’s also extremely rare that streaming services or anyone else uses this format.
The QCEII’s had the QCC5171 which did lossless at only 16-bit 44.1kHz matching CD quality but Bose has yet to unlock that capability.
Bose fail to note that aptX Adaptive actually works at up to 24-bit 96kHz and whether or not they have blocked this capability. I tweeted them asking for further detail but thus far haven’t been forthcoming. It’s almost like they’re just not ready to understand these codecs.
So, technically you were inaccurate when you said they’re not like wired yet. These can deliver the same bit-for-bit audio as a wired pair of headphones would when listening to a source at 16-bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz.
The Bluetooth version is kind of not as important as focusing on the codecs. The codec is everything when it comes to audio quality.
It’s true that many consumers won’t have realised that their QCEII’s were outputting a very lossy version of their content. They sounded great as they were but guess what… you were missing out on much of the detail the artists originally intended you to hear.
What’s the catch? Well, besides needing a streaming service that offers lossless or Hi-Res audio, you need a device which outputs either aptX Adaptive or aptX Lossless and that doesn’t include iPhone. In fact, aptX Lossless continues to be found in very few smart devices today. Partly because of the pandemic’s impact to chip production in China. It shouldn’t however be the end of the road for the iPhone or other devices lacking the technology because you can get USB dongles that can take USB Audio and pump it through a Qualcomm Bluetooth chip. The company Creative makes one called the BT-W5 which will give you aptX Adaptive, which supports up to 24-bit 96kHz lossy Hi-Resolution audio. Hopefully their next gen dongle will support aptX Lossless.
I’m hoping Bose has a dongle based on the Qualcomm QCC3086 just waiting in the wings that fits nicely into a USB-C iPhone or other USB-C devices and can be controlled from their app. People need to hear what they’re missing when they don’t use SBC or AAC.

Fantastic review and very helpful with the setup . I have a Pixel 7 Pro phone and was starting to think of getting the Pixel Buds, glad I got the Bose. I have the QC 15 Wireless headphones that go over the ear and they sound fantastic. I hope these earbuds sound at least this good. I plan on using this with the new Google Pixel 2 LTE watch.

To be honest this earbuds not worth $300. Technology is there but sound quality very very disappointing for brand like Bose. Get Sennheiser products much worth the money for sound quality.

I has a static sounds in the left eaebud that sounded similar to radio signal loss in the car... Is that normal for the NC mode? Looked around and saw alot of others have this problem too... sad because these earbuds blew me away for how perfect they were, but the constant static was too much and had to return...

Bose has had several software updates since I made this video, making these buds outstanding. I would try buying another pair, make sure to fully complete all the updates, and see if you can get the experience that I would expect, which is outstanding.

Great review. Do you get any ear fatigue when wearing them? How long can you wear them for till they become uncomfortable? Is that sound comparable to sony WF 1000 XM5 despite not having LDAC?

you know Samsung supporting SSC, SBC, AAC and not AptxHD......& Bose having support for AptxHd....
being non-compatible, when it comes to high-fidelity, doesn't the connection between samsung and bose falls with SBC connection?

I cant get mine to connect to bose music using a Samsung S22 ultra.. tried everything... Probably sending them back! Totally disappointed!
Make sure your connected to your home Wi-Fi. If you have other Bose products connected already be on the same band as them. Now All the app permissions must be granted. Make sure Location is on in your mobile device then open the Bose app keep the buds in the case but the case must be open the entire time and begin the process and it should work.

I love headphones they will always be my favorite. Earbuds are small and easy to carry around. Can also be a less visible way to take calls. Perfect for the gym no sweat in the earcup etc. I believe that is the real reason they are so popular. But these are Insanely good 👍
No multipoint connectivity at this price point is a hard pass for me

Having said that the bose music app allows you to have a list on all devices you want to connect to then it's a simple switch and you disconnect from one and you connect to the other. So it still simple and fast to switch devices once the initial setup is done I flip between 2 phones and two tablets throughout the day in seconds.
