I like the way you opened you reaction/review by saying the song is more than just the greatest break up song of all time. If can get past the beauty of Agnetha and her voice and the lovely piano music, you have to marvel at the skill of the songwriter, in this case Bjorn Ulvaes, Agnetha's ex husband and ex band mate. Their personal love story is pretty sad when compared to their earlier years of marriage. In a little over 3 minutes the singer and the songwriter told a powerful narrative about the game of life. The song begins and ends with the analogy of a card game with winners and losers. They have convey through this song how vulnerable people are in this game of life that can leave you utterly shattered. Yet, this is the human condition. You build lovely secure homes and make dreams. But there is no guaranty that a roll of the dice will not completely up end your reality. The songwriter conveyed deep emotion with a few rhymes and pointed images. The singer with her facial expression, the control and nuance of her voice, the way she used her beauty and the lovely melody created a whole story. ABBA had a talent for good song writing. They were dismissed for a while as just a pop group. But their music is standing the test of time. They have so much music. I hope you will get a chance to explore more.

One of the most endearing things about the 4 members of ABBA is that there is no ego. They are perfectly fine to let the other members of the group shine. Frida is a massively talented singer, but she understands that this is Agnetha's song and she provides perfect backup vocals. It's the same the other way round when Frida takes the lead. The very few songs in which they both sing a majority of the song together are pure magic as well, because their voices blend to create a sound you can't replicate.

Bjorn Ulvaeus wrote this after separating from wife and fellow band member, Agnetha Fältskog. Simon Fuller is a big name publisher of musicians. In 2017 he signed up ABBA as a new client. What he's going to do is digitize them and sell ABBA in a 3D form, either in a 3D "tour" or through some Virtual Reality product that people can purchase for their home computers. In support of this, ABBA agreed to record a couple of new songs, and they have recorded them, (named "I Still Have Faith In You," and "Don't Shut Me Down") but the new songs won't be released until Simon Fuller is ready. (Rumours indicate that there are MORE than two new songs already recorded, possibly five, and Bjorn didn't deny that when confronted with it.) As part of Fuller's digitization of the ABBA singers, he did a body scan of each of them, in such high detail that even their irises were accurately recorded. What I want to see is a VR experience of ABBA's 1974 Eurovision win, right down to replicating their individual gestures on stage. I want to be right on stage with them when they sing it. This is the future direction of entertainment for the next 100 years. Although Simon Fuller hasn't explained what he's doing, you can get a pretty good idea by watching this video which describes what Sony is doing for one of its singers: czcams.com/video/9Sx6wYt1Zbc/video.html

Exactly at that time she was divorcing the guitarrist next to her. He wrote the song, she sang it. Obviously he was suffering too: you can note the sad look he directed to her at 4:14. In that divorce there were only loosers, said he. The song is deep, sad and beautiful.. The delivering is gorgeous.

For many years Agnetha and Bjorn denied it was about their own divorce, but recently in an interview they admitted it. They said something like the recording company marketing people insisted that it not be linked too personally to their private lives because it might hurt sales. But, now, they are stating the song really was about their own break up. I always considered it Agnetha's best work.

Hello for first time, congratulations for your first reaction to ABBA songs
this is ABBA, the swedish pop group leads in 70s, decade after BEATLES
ABBA, as BEATLES, was so versatility in genres and styles of music
ABBA (1972/82) is acrostic with initials of first names, two couples:
    Agnetha (blonde singer) &
    Björn (guitarist songwriter)
    Benny (pianist songwriter) &
    Anni Frid (brunette singer)
Agnetha & Björn separated at end 1978, A.Frid & Benny at begin 1981
"The winner takes it all" (1980) is for me the best interpretation of a song that I heard in all my life by any singer or band
It is interpretation, because it is more than just singing, it is also acting and transmitting, and the lead singer Agnetha does all that and on a superlative level
Beyond the morbid that the story of this song produces (the lyrics written by the guitarist Björn and sung by his ex-wife, the blonde Agnetha), the structure reflects a change: it is the first time in all ABBA songs that whoever has the leading voice has been alone from beginning to end,
She goes one way and the choirs go the other (they do not add up, they remain in the background)
and in the end She is left alone passive and exposed, while the chorus and the music finish so up
That is why I feel that Agnetha does an extraordinary performance (extraordinary: out of the ordinary)
Her face is very expressive and accompanies the various tones and nuances of her majestic vocalization.
"The winner takes it all" is a great song, it's in my ABBA Top 5
It is the favorite of British fans,
but fundamentally is the one chose
    by Björn and Agnetha
And their own words is the one that is worth more
I wish You continue to react ABBA
I suggest the ballad pop "Chiquitita"
at their premier in Concert for Unicef
    czcams.com/video/oMIw_y9uRT8/video.html
    (ABBA donated royalties to Unicef)

"One Of Us" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" are two other very deep songs. But ABBA also wrote good mood songs. Some of the best known: "Dancing Queen", "Mamma Mia", "Money, Money, Money", "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!", "Super Trouper".

They have more than 20 worldwide hits in several countries of all continents, included
    Waterloo
    S.O.S.
    Mamma Mia
    Fernando
    Dancing Queen
    Take a chance on me
    Chiquitita
    Gimme gimme gimme
    The winner takes it all
    Super trouper
"The winner takes it all" is one of their greatest hits, #1 in UK and several countries, #8 in Billboard U.S. and #1 in Adult Contemporary U.S.
"The winner takes it all" have a deep lyric writen by the guitarist Björn and singing at lead vocal by his ex-wife Agnetha, that gives an emotional and powerful interpretation with her lovely voice
note: Agnetha & Björn was separated at the end of 1978 (with two young children) but the legal divorce was in the middle of 1980
after this, Björn wrote this incredible lyrics
(obviously included part of your own history),
and the songwriters give Agnetha to sing it
at first She cry, but then put all your feelings and emotions and talents to this amazing performing
I hope to see you in another reaction to ABBA songs
