Sam is back again with another vintage lens review.
This time it's the Pentax 135mm f3.5. A vintage telephoto prime lens with some interesting features and quirks.

Great review. I just got one from FleaBay for my Pentax LX. Not sure what to expect, or even why I need it. But there may be one day where it comes in handy. Anyhoo, nice fun review. Good stuff!

I’ve got the Ricoh version, for my Pentax LX, it’s awesome, but I’m looking for an adapter though for a pk to fd but can’t find one 😕 the 135 however is not so good for distance but I find it amazing for portraiture 😉

My favorite vintage lens. In fact,it is on my camera more than any other. My favorite use is shooting a parade.

the lens performs much better that in your examples actually. i use it on my OM-D and it's pretty decent at f3.5... i think the dark corner your dog was lying down at was not a great example of how a 135mm lens would realistically be used on a camera with a 2X crop. :) take it outside on a sunny day. you'll be surprised what the lens can do. cheers!

I have the 135mm 3.5 M lens also as well as the Pentax 150mm 3.5 M lens. I also have the Pentax 100mm 2.8M lens. All great Pentax lenses as small as the lenses are they all about the same size as most 50mm lenses from other camera manufacturers.

Why use a focal reducer? You gave up a lot of quality. The mushiness is the focal reducer. The lens is excellent. You have added barrel distortion, loss of contrast and loss of resolution.

Really doesn't make a huge amount of difference in my experience.
You have the same fuzzy/mushy image at wider apertures with a basic adapter (no added reducer element).
