- In this eye-opening work safety demonstration, we use a 300-ton hydraulic press to simulate the devastating effects of hydraulic cylinder and hose failures. Captured in stunning detail with a high-speed camera at 2000 frames per second.
We test what happens when you crush hydraulic cylinder with hydraulic press. Don't try this at home! Exploding hoses can send flying parts or cause a injection injury
Injection injuries are a serious workplace hazard caused by high-pressure equipment accidentally penetrating the skin and injecting foreign materials into the body. Consequences of injection injuries include tissue damage, infection, and even limb amputation if not treated promptly. Observe the damaging effects oil and paint can have on the tissue and learn about the importance of seeking immediate medical help in case of an injection injury.

So you set the gel on top of the hose. Can you actually pour the gel around the hose? And can you fill the hose with something that will catch on fire, or glow or something, so we get to see a nice fiery looking explosion inside the gel?
Anything with a good orange neon color might do the trick. Add in a good UV light, and there ya go.

You made a little editing error: The first high-speed at 9:40 is from the 2nd explosion. The first high-speed can only be seen in the comparison at 12:55.

Have you thought about making some composite metals by pressure alloying? Metal powders like aluminium mixed with other metals that do not normally form alloys by melting

@@HydraulicPressChannel Plastic modification is also interesting. A few years ago there was a study on squashing polypropylene pellet to create flat disks. When done properly, the random placement of molecules changes and they become much more aligned. This results in high strength. These disks were being tested for use in bullet proof vests. Mixtures of different plastics might give unusual results.

You swapped the high speed footage, as the first footage shows the test with the sleeve.
Was there any trapped air in the system on the hose explosion test? Trapped air should make the failure much more dramatic than no air. Maybe you could test it with different amounts of air trapped in the system.
Something like 100ml. But the pressure is so high that the water compresses also something like 5% so most of the energy comes from that.
@@HydraulicPressChannel May want to try using carbonated water. Just to see if there is a notable difference between normal and carbonated water.

You were both right: the pressure hydroformed the tube, and the seals failed due to the increased I.D. of the cylinder.

Looks like something got messed up in editing. In the first high speed you show the second hose test with the sleeve. I got confused but when you brought out the sleeve I realized. Still a great vid just a little timeline issue. Finally Seeing the high speed of the first hose was incredible. So much worse without the sleeve. 🤯✌🏼

what if you added a round block of ice on a stand inside the cylinder, with water under and on top of the ice, compress it, will the ice melt or get crushed by the water forcing the air out of the ice? or no effect at all?

The high-speed shot hose, is not the same hose used in the first test. That hose was black and yellow and did not have any sleeves around it like the one in the high-speed shot.
What happened to the yellow and black hose high-speed shot?

Try the steel hoses. The reason the cylinder failed "safe" was that when it bulged, the water had a way to pass the seals. No such option with a steel pipe. It *will* rupture. No way it can balloon enough to contain all the fluid from the cylinder.

When a hose blows like this, it releaves the pressure in all directions and isn't as dangerous to be close to as if a hose fails in one point and a stream is ejected. Back in my days of firefighting, we were always told to make sure not to make kinks on the hydraulic hoses for our hydraulic rescue equipment - I once saw this happen and an extremely fine mist was ejected from a single point and if you have that near anything, it would probably go through anything - it was hydraulic hoses for Holmatro rescue equipment, probably 12-14mm orange plastic/rubber hose- try something like that...

You said near the start about not doing it with hydraulic oil because it would explode. Could you do something like that but outside or somewhere safer because it sounds like it would be interesting to see in slow motion.
Perhaps you should cast the gel block with the hydraulic hose inside. Have the fitting end sticking out enough to make your connection.
