  • Rebuilding Dormers on Our 1969 Dairy Barn - Part 1 | Mahner Farms
Welcome to Mahner Farms! 🛠️🏠 Join us as we embark on an ambitious restoration project to breathe new life into our mid-century dairy barn. Built in 1969, this antique structure is in dire need of repairs, and we're starting with the most crucial part: the dormers.
What to Expect in This Video:
Demolition and Rebuilding: Watch as we tear down the old, unstable structures of the first dormer. We replace the weakened supports and roof with new, solid lumber and high-quality materials.
Roofing: See how we reclad the roof with treated plywood and ice guard, followed by installation of new steel roofing to ensure durability and weather resistance.
Detailed Construction: From mounting new doors to sealing edges with Flex Paste, we cover every step to make the dormer weatherproof.
Challenges: The second dormer posed more challenges, requiring a complete overhaul of the roof and frame. Discover how we tackle these issues with the help of our dedicated team.
Community and Teamwork: This project wouldn't be possible without the incredible volunteer support from friends and family. Get an inside look at how community effort makes a big difference.
    Materials Used:
    Over $1000 in lumber
    New steel roofing
$700+ in fasteners, hardware, paint, and sealant
Tools and Safety: All power tools, hand tools, ladders, and safety equipment were provided from my personal collection, ensuring that our team works efficiently and safely.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where we'll continue with the reconstruction of the second dormer. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more updates from Mahner Farms as we restore this classic dairy barn to its former glory!

This is the type of work that a lot of people who want to own land, or a farm, forget about.

I was very skeptical at the beginning, but it looks like you did a really good job on that first one. Can't wait to see the other two finished.

We did our best. In the end they turned out very strong, and that's what we were going for.

I hope this stops your roof from leaking, looks like it was a lot of work. Still, can't wait to see the rest.

Are you planning on painting the dormers as well? and then, is there any plan to paint the rest of the barn to match?

    • @DeutzFarmer96
      @DeutzFarmer96  Před měsícem

Yes, i am going to attempt to paint them today. And, also yes, my plan is for the whole barn to be painted in the near future. I also want to clean up and fix the front entry and offbuilding, and also get doors built and installed for the North and South Windows as well.

Always pick a hot day for roof work. I don't know why that's a rule, but in my experience, it must be.

It's not actually a results based rule, it's state law.
