- We visit Preston Station and it’s signalboxes, thanks to the imagination of Mike Norris who remembers the station from his youth, these memories have over the last 45 years allowed him to create this working model of the station and its signalling.
As Mike notes there is still a lot to do, the station buildings, the birdcage bridge and the signal gantries are still yet to build and its a work in progress, the colour light signals will eventually be turned to semaphores.
Our grateful thanks to Mike for allowing us to see the layout in a quiet period, we shall return one day to see how the layout is operated when all the boxes are manned and that will be something to behold.
This is just amazing. Great workmanship and incredible dedication. What a great man you are, I bow down to you sir.
I worked in Preston No.1 box during the 1960's. It was operated by 2 signalmen and a ' box lad' who took all the messages from other boxes and recorded approaching and passing times of trains. Working there gave me a great sense of responsibility but it was always a pleasure to come to work. The best job I ever had !! 🚂🚂 😊😊
Labour of love - beautiful craftsmanship.
A very dedicated man, good health ad a long life to him.
Good lord, I've never seen so many levers in my life. An outstanding model!
Just...WOW!
The lever switches in the lever frame were made by AGW Controls. They unfortunately had ceased trading by the late 1980s/early 1990s, so Mike did well to buy as many lever switches as he did.
I would love to have a wee go!
Youl have to get in touch and visit 👍
