What was Jay Rods submission I am so confused by it ?
Covered his mouth , he can’t breathe. While having both arms locked from protecting his face.
Its a smother choke. He basically trapped his arms and instead of choking him the regular way he decided to cut out his airflow and submit him this way. A bit embarrassing but still hella legit. I like doing it on top of guys from mount with the GI, you just hug them real tight and they have no room to breathe + they start to panick

6:21 I think I've found a counter to hand smothering. Try it yourself: Cover your Nose and Mouth with a hand, until your unable to breath. Then, just open your mouth as far as possible and there will be a small gap through which you can mouth breathe. Or am I wrong?
It's possible, but really depends on what % of a normal breath you're getting. After being smothered for a time (and possibly ALREADY feeling gassed while you were getting 100% breaths) only getting 20-30% breaths still isn't gonna prevent a slow suffocation.

If its not skillful then it should be easily taken care of with skill.

@@00RV00 Not necessarily. It's effective but pretty cheap. Kind of like griding your elbows into someone's thighs to open their guard. It works but is of poor taste and decorum. But then again, I understand there are a lot of classless people in this sport who do not see things this way at all.
