What do you think of Wendy's chili?
I could literally crap in a pot and it would taste better than this.
I love thier chilli
Love love love Wendy's chili!!
I like it
I actually wouldn't mind trying it out. I do love a good bowl of chili. 😋♥️
I made their chili in 1987-89 at the Lazelle road Ohio store. AM prep was preparing the fresh veggies for our shift, getting ready for the lunch rush, but also preparing FOR that lunch rush and the desire for chili. Day before, late night non-sales burger meat was placed into refrigeration and held for the next morning. There was nothing wrong with it, nor had it been left out of safe handling, heat and refrigeration, but in fast food, a burger patty can remain in the warmer for so long. So we took those patties that hadn't sold the night before, chopped them up, mixed them into all of the other chili ingredients and then simmered them for well over an hour. All other ingredients outside of fresh veggies was canned (beans and tomato sauce). I never added sugar and making the chili was fun! I enjoyed it and learned cooking skills from it.
To this day, I still love Wendy's chili and this is precisely what I did every day.
the sugar is already in the tomato/spice mix they use, it isn't added. It is listed on their website as an ingredient in the spice mix.
By the mid-90s. Just bags of frozen vegetables
I've been putting a heaping tablespoon of sugar in my homemade chili for 40 years. It's the ingredient that ties it all together.
Mine is the can beans and it’s liquids from the can makes all the difference
@@MrSuperGI’ve heard the bean juice is important as well
Sugar dampens the bitterness of the tomatoes.
Now I'm craving chili. Wendy's here I come
Enjoy ❤❤
Sugar isn’t all that unusual. In a LOT of recipes, a chocolate bar or chocolate chips is added to help cut some of the heat and add a bit of creaminess to its mouthfeel.
Maybe a dot of cinnamon
@@missoldskool Yes, and/or a pinch of ground cloves.
I always order a baked potato with chives and sour cream; I also order a small chili; put the sour cream into the potato and pour the chili over all. Makes for a filling dinner when you do not want to cook.
Sounds good!
I just had some of this last night for dinner. Yum!!!
Chili and other stews always taste better the next day after the flavors have all blended together.
l thought the secret ingredient was 'yesterday's unsold hamburger patties' that are used in the chili.
It is, I worked there..chopped up hb meat from earlier that day
I could literally crap in a pot and it would taste better than this.
Yeah, I’ve found square chunks from the patties in mine 😉👍🏻🇺🇸
Wow so instead of a corporation dumping food out and wasting it they found a way to salvage food.. and y’all mad? Just don’t go their
I don't understand how ground beef off the grill and chopped up and frozen is anything bad people all like you bug out just because it was a beef patty once upon a time instead of a one pound block of ground beef which is frozen as well Wendy's does fresh beef oattys never frozen strait to the grill chopped up then frozen same thing y'all are bugging out nothing nasty about it
A frosty is not the same as a chocolate shake.
I love a good bowl of chili and Wendy's looks like they make a decent bowl of it. 😋♥️
CHILI IS GOOD
I add a teaspoon of sugar into any tomato recipe to cut the acid. There's no secret about this ingredient. Any person of Italian decent will tell you this. A carrot will also work.
in case anyone wants to actually know why wendys chili tastes different from say canned chili, its because the wendys chili has sauteed peppers in it and fresher beef. mostly the peppers though
Not really, they use two week old unused hamburger patties for their meat.
@@snowflakehunter well maybe from the previous day but it still beats the crap from canning plants
@@gaming.golden No. TWO WEEKS. I used to work for them in my teens. It was disgusting.
@@snowflakehunterare you stupid, you've never worked fast food if you think that supply is remaining from the last 2 weeks
@@snowflakehunter ok boomer. That's not how fast food works anymore.
The secret ingredient is.....love
Yes.
There's actually a LOT of truth to your statement.
Some will not understand this!
For me, the thing that is a required ingredient of Wendy's delicious chili are those little black packets of Wendy's Chili Sauce.
I LOVE WENDYS CHILI!!!!!!!
I used to work at Wendy's. So, yes, they use leftover meat. So? It's still the only pre-made chili I'll buy. None of the canned chili comes close to Wendy's Chili.
I’ve always added a bit of brown sugar to my chili in the crockpot.
I liked the original Wendy's chili better.
I believe Wendy's does thier chill well
In what universe is sugar unusual in chili?
Green bell peppers work to sweeten tomato sauce also.
The One Ingredient That Gives Wendy's Chili Its Distinct Flavor?! It must be the finger
Great video!
Life changing
Best chili ever!
Sorry you have not had a good bowl of red.
We used to put a blob of peanut butter in our pot of chili, gives it a nice nutty flavor.
I jusr did that because Dave Moody said he maks his that way from Nascar.
I will have to try that! This made my day! And it’s Friday too!
Green peppers is the ingredient that steals the show.
A must watch
I want to know what their little packets of chili sauce is made of! That's the bomb! 😋
Butter and sugar are both good in every dish 😊
i love chili
Although I can't comment on Wendy's chili, I always add brown sugar and a splash of cider vinegar (or wine vinegar) to anything having tomato sauce or that is tomato based... pasta sauce, pizza sauce, BBQ sauce, chili con carne, sloppy joes, and soy chorizo. Sugar is not unusual at all.
That sounds so good right now!
I got chili from Timo Hortons yesterday, used to be chucnky and filling, was watery, more like Wendys, but double the cost, also had a hard glass or plastic piece in my chili.
I love how they show the pan with them grounding beef, when they make their chili with all the leftover patties from the night before ,they don’t have a separate meat that they use for their chili , it’s the hamburger patties that they didn’t use from the night before, I worked there for five years in Cincinnati, and the secret ingredients in Cincinnati chili is ,cinnamon,, and it’s alot better than there day-old hamburger chili 🌶 look it up !
Yep. Cassia (cinnamon) does mimic the "sweet flavor" of sugar without using sugar. I would not make a curry or a chilli without it.
@@thaisstone5192👍
I guess that’s the reason Wendy’s the only chili I can eat without add sugar
It's better than homemade❣️
Sugar is used to cut the bite of the tomatos and onions.
Everyone talks about how they use yesterday’s hamburgers in their chili…like they never grilled a few extra burgers at a bbq at their house and then ate them the next day 😂. Like please people
bought some at gorcery store and it's soup thin soup .
I would put a finger up... Just a thumbs up. 👍Every finger matters. 😂👍
Mostly the middle finger though lol
You can use it for any tomatoe sauce
its people
Sugar is in EVERYTHING
I like my large Wendy's chili with six packets of chili seasoning.
Adding sugar and/or butter is common.
Where I live the only thing you get is beans there is no tomatoes no green peppers no onions and no meat it's all beans and a small about if juice
Suggestion: retro return
Yes a big pot of chili
Wish it actually looked like that. Looks good
Always add sugar to my chili!
What is Wendy's chili secret??
Also mashed : it's secret
It's actually celery, it's listed on their website as an ingredient. I've never put celery in chili.
They actually mention two ingredients - sugar and butter. Not to mention its filled with inaccuracies. So this whole video is clickbait.
I stopped giving my money to Wendy’s in the 1980’s when they came out publicly in support of gun banning & confiscation!
You sure showed them didn’t ya Cleetus.
Brown sugar👍
Look here look listen pimp Wendy’s chili is best eaten with a Pepsi on a hot day in a trailer real tawk
Looked this up just to see if I could find one of these comments and did not get disappointed 😂
Coconut sugar👍
I call BS. I worked at Wendy's in the early 90's. The meat in the chili are all the old burger patties which are stashed in a metal pan, then frozen (sometimes for weeks). THEN BOILED!!! A frozen bag of onions and peppers, a can of dark beans, a can of red beans and a generic pouch of foul red powder are then cooked for 4 hrs in the back room. At the end of the night, the chili is in a refridgerator for up to 3 days, and cooked every morning when the prep team arrives.
I'll never eat Wendy's chili again! I'll make my own like I used to. That way I'll what's in it.
Liar
The last time I had Wendy's chili in Texas it was all beans I mean all beans a few drops of meat.. I couldn't believe it I used to love it but now I'm done!!!!
The only chili I won't touch is Cincinnati style. Nutmeg & cinnamon don't belong in chili
Sugar? Interesting
always too watery. i wanted chili, not juice.
The chili is definitely not hardy its more like a soup it used to be better years ago thick and hardy but in the quest of making things cheaper it's not that great anymore
Agree. My husband calls it shrinkflation. More soup less burger and beans.
Uhm mods ban anyone criticizing Wendy's chili real tawk
A lot of this is wrong I was a manager there for years
Fingers?
Yeah, and that new canned version is ghastly tasting.
I thought it was sand
Who doesn’t?
I like Wilson's better but they have gotten so pricey,I don't go there anymore
Brown sugar.
A little bit of cumin
What 84 billion sence its conception doesn't anybody else buy it but me lol
Omg it’s sugar. Duh. Same with spaghetti sauce!
I thought the secret ingredient was finger.
Really? I actually guessed that because sugar isn't uncommon or strange. Video was a rip off.
How much sugar to add????
Brown sugar goes in any red sauce I cook.
How much for a dutch oven sized pot of chili?
@@christinemurphy-lucas7835I'm here wondering that too
I thought the “special ingredient” was a severed finger…
Secret ingredient = msg
there is no msg in it according to the ingredient list on their website. Msg is an ingredient they are required to list if it's in there.
Never Never Wendy's Chilly
the meat that was never sold in the last 3 Days

Four day old recycled hamburgers?
Baking soda takes the acid out

No one ever mentions Wendy's hot chili sauce, it will make any chili better.
Sugar is off limits to those of us with diabetes, Go peddle sugar somewhere else.
I've never added sugar to chili at home. There's usually enough in tomato paste and sauces already. Diabetes makes added sugar a no-go for me. Bye Wendy's chili. 😪😪😪
so you ate it this whole time and it never made you sick, but now that you know it has sugar in it, it bothers your diabetes?
Wendy's chili is OK, but it's not my favorite. Gold star and Sky Line chili are the worst. This is probably because I make several different kinds of chili that have won chili contests. I know a lot of people love these chilies's but they haven't tasted mine. Nothing is better than homemade chili.
i think the taste is enhansed because at the end of the day they add the left over burgers that weren't sold and they have a grill taste to it!
Sugar and chili an uncommon pairing? Back it up to 1:06....celery in chili is a common pairing? Methinks not 🤮
The last few times i have gotten Wendys chili it has been really watery and not tasty... will no longer be buying....
The one ingredient that Gives Wendy's chili it's distinctive flavor.
Two week old unused hamburger patties.
No, seriously!
Wendy's chili is a bit too thin on complex flavor for me.
I know. Spit from the cook.
I hope not.
Who hurt you? Why are you doing this? Did a server dump you or something ?
Wendy's chili is nothing special ........My homegrown tomatoes are so sweet no need to add sugar ....No butter either
FALSE.
WENDY’s chili is spectacular and boasts myriad copycat recipes because MILLIONS of ppl eat it and love it, therefore making it empirically special.
Your chili is well-liked at home and that’s it.
You Don't Know Chili ..........
@@kerriknight5056 ok karen. But YOU do.
Not only do YOU NOT KNOW CHILI, You DONT KNOW me, or my life experiences, which means you DONT KNOW enough to make that assumption. I know how to cook and I make a damn good chili. (even though I still think Wendy’s is the BEST) That, in and of itself means nothing because it’s ANECDOTAL.
You DONT EVEN KNOW WORDS. Like EMPIRICAL, (and the aforementioned ANECDOTAL, which means the opposite) when referring to data. Because I gave you enough VERIFIABLE information to PROVE my point that Wendy’s chili is very good or millions of ppl wouldn’t have been enjoying the same recipe since 1969 which is when Wendy’s was founded. The chili was one of their original 5 food offerings. It’s been 54 years and ppl STILL LOVE IT at all 7,240 of their WORLDWIDE locations.
How long have you been making yours? How many restaurants use it as their proprietary recipe? How many millions of ppl love your chili. Do you see what I am getting at PRECIOUS?
Food, like art is SUBJECTIVE. So what you think is delicious, might taste like dogshit to someone else; and you’d both be right.
But when it’s one of the FAVORITE food items, for the last half century at 7,240 locations worldwide enjoyed by MILLIONS of ppl, your statement that “…it’s nothing special”, exposes you as at the very least IGNORANT and at worst dumb as a box of rocks, SWEETIE.
Do you see the difference between your ANECDOTE and my EMPIRICAL evidence?
Don’t be butthurt because someone called you out on your horseshit.
Now get back in the kitchen, you intellectual dwarf.
Worst chili ever. Totally sucks.
Empirically FALSE.
You’re the worst. You totally suck.
Amazing you can make a video and know almost nothing about the subject.
How so? I genuinely wanna know?
The secret ingredient in Wendy's chili is leftover hamburger patties. It was a was too eliminate waste in the beginning. That's the reason chili made the menu. IIRC...
This is pure BS.
Skyline makes better chilli than Wendy's
FALSE.
Absolutely not.
Skyline chili is based on an obscure Ohio area version of chili and it tastes like ass.
It’s not how most versions of chili are made.
Congratulations on you liking it, but most ppl don’t eat chili that way and think Skyline chili sucks.
It’s sugar… You’re welcome.
I figured it was, this is America after all, land of the fatties.
