- I'm excited to bring you this experiment in which we are rooting some petunia cuttings and then comparing different components of my fertilizer mix. We'll compare epsom salt, miracle-gro, mother plant, and nothing at all, including my fertilizer mix for indoor houseplants.

Don't you just love experimenting? I do! That's the ONLY way you learn. Thank you so much for this!
This is the most excited I've ever seen someone about fertilizer. Can't wait to get my garden started.
I'll help
I just watched his videos for a week and I can told you I am excited all videos from him and cute little helpers . Thank you 😊
Wow! I had no idea you could clone petunias until now! Cool! I have about 50 growing downstairs and I was thinking they needed to be pinched (planted them way to early! Lol) so now I know I’ll clone the cutting I take off the plants! Thanks! 😁👍
Awesome, Denise! Glad you found this. I've got many more propagation videos if you're interested. Here's another one about petunias: czcams.com/video/YOaxtHuU6R4/video.html
Hey Mike, I just took cuttings of my bubble gum tunias 2 days ago and I remembered you had a prior video about that so I watched that one again and did a tray of tunia’s, homestead verbena, and cabricholia’s. They are in the greenhouse now so hopefully they do well!
I love these videos Mike!! You don’t realize how much you help us Mike, you’ve taught me so much about all of this and I’ve been around this stuff almost 50 years so you can teach an old dog new tricks young man and I thank you for it and I know my wife will appreciate it even more when she has a beautiful yard this summer and I didn’t spend a fortune on it.
Thank you for spending your time making these videos for us, I truly appreciate every one of them Mike!!
I really appreciate your comment, Don! It humbles me to hear things like this. Sometimes I don't realize that these videos are that helpful for people and I'm so glad you feel that way. Thank you and have a great spring!
Mike, I've said it before, that's why i always like your videos, you show the results, so many out there just say "hey here's what you do" then a week later the plant is dead and we never see that part. i also know it takes a lot of time and dedication to put these together. thank you for your time!
Thanks! You are exactly the kind of people I make these videos for.
Running out right now for supplies to get started you inspired me. 🤗 great video!!!
This video was great made a believer out of me of how important fertilizing can be
I never fertilize my roses and flower before until 15 days ago🤭
Since I have started watching your videos, I decided to try growing things from cuttings and have had AMAZING success!! Thank you for all the videos!!
You're very welcome! That's what it's all about.
Now that's my kind of video!! Your energy is contagious!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi from Ireland .1 week ago I followed your advice and took petunia, fuchsia, lilac and bidens cuttings. Popped them in a tote and today a petunia has a new leaf!!! I'm so excited 😁. Thank you for your information, enthusiasm and joyfullness
Wonderful! Thanks for hanging out with us on the channel, Rachel, and have fun in the garden.
LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!! I am OBSESSED with Petunias especially the sky series the pink sky & electric purple are my favorite & have been learning soooo much on how to take care of them from this channel. Thank you Mike for your knowledge & tips! Your flowers look great as always!
Sweet! Glad you enjoy the channel and even more glad that you love your petunias so much. Have fun!!!
Really appreciate the video Mike! Thank you!
Hey, you're welcome! Glad you saw it. I thought it was a great idea for a video and I sure did learn a lot from doing this experiment.
Awesome!! I love my petunias so much and this was so great, they will be even happier in the future! Thank you!
Yeah, this is a really nice fertilizer for them.
Thank you for rooting cuttings in different containers. Gives me some hope I might be successful soon.
You can do it!
I use Miracle gro consistently...but I also generously sprinkle epsom salt on my petunias, my peonies, my soil garden, my ferns, my hydrangeas and lilac...and they are Absolutely beautiful. I guess to each their own, and thanks, Mike, for the prop lesson.
Works great!
Hi Mike, I have been MIA for a while , was ill now btr. You are a pure delight. Loved watching ur videos last yr,. Hope your finger has healed from the nasty accident that u had. Yes, your cuttings worked like wonder. I am NOT an organized gardener like you, more like a Lazy gardener :Try it, does not work out, Rey another way. I have successfully done pinch and stick in soil and help new ones get back on their feet and then let Mother Nature take care. Very successful. thanks to u about Cutting and multiplying from Mother plant" Gardening ( helped keep cost down, helped me heal health and great to see you back and exuberant as always. Happy gardening. You are the BEST
So glad you're feeling better, and just in time for spring!
Thanks, I love your videos. Keep going. I´m preparing my own garden. You are the best.
Wow, thanks, I'm honored!
After watching your petunia propegation videos a million times or more, I finally got the courage to do some cuttings. It hasn't been quite been a month and I checked them after watching this video and I had tons of roots! I repotted them so I hope I didnt jump the gun too fast. I'm so excited. I paid close to $200 on mostly petunias from an online nursery last month. Not anymore, thanks mike!
So glad you're figuring it out, Kelly! You can save a lot of money, this is exactly what the nurseries do.
I watched your videos to.I want to try the propagation i spent 💯
Thanks for this video!! I’m a big petunia lover..I love to feed them weekly..I have always used Miracle Grow but I think now you have found a winning combination! Just bought my first ever proven winners supertunias and they should be a real show stopper! 🤩 Thank you!
They sure are beautiful! Enjoy your new flowers, Shannon.
I enjoy your presentation even though I don't plant anything. Well, may be I will try.
They get expensive... and were addicted to buying petunias too! Great tips. Ty
They are so expensive but so easy to propagate!
I've been bingeing this channel just to take in all of Mike's upbeat energy.
Haha, glad you're enjoying it and I hope you absorb all the energy you need!
Great video Mike. Epsom salts...my best friend (Grahame) aged 11 slipped a teaspoon into his mum's tea on the morning of his sister's ( Gayle) wedding. I was terrified he'd poisoned her. Fortunately it all worked out in the end, Gayle had a fantastic day. Brenda, Grahame's mum unfortunately didn't give the speech she'd prepared due to other commitments, Grahame's day didn't end so well!
haha, that's funny
Hello mike . I always dont know which fertilizer is the best for my plants . After seeing this , now i find the best solution . Thanks for making this video , it help a lot . Save money , the ready mix products ( probably used the same things) are far more expensive .
Thanks a lot mike .
I always enjoy the way u talk Mike... Great videos and thanx alot
Glad you like them!
Very informative thanks Mike, love to see your videos 👍🏼🇨🇦
Thanks, Yanet, glad you enjoy them!
Thank you for your comparison on of fertilizers. I will start growing more pots of geraniums with miracle grow now.
Yeah, it works great for most things around here. Have fun, Teresa!
Mike, no matter what anyone says, you are very entertaining and informative. You inspire me to try new things and you motivate me to get out there and do something. I’ve lost my mojo and gardening is something I can do..have a great day. And I did subscribe to your wife’s page.
Thanks for the nice comment, Sharon, and thanks for subscribing to my wife's channel! I'm glad you're a part of the family here.
I've been a subscriber we're quite some time but never had time to look at the videos well now I'm hooked Thank you Mike looking forward to seeing your wife's channel
Well, Mike. I for sure will brag on you. You duh man!
Gosh I enjoy your videos so much.
Thank you for doing them.
Thanks, JD, glad you enjoy the videos!

@@MikeKincaid79 please help me of my petunias plants how to grow like i saw your vedeos please teach me where i buy that kind of fertilizer please mike
Thank you so much, big help! really looking for tips how to fertilize my petunia,i have skinny one... the bonus is the link you attached👍
I absolutely love this channel! Just went to a big box store and got some petunias and I’m going to try your propagation method. I have some that I’ve had for over 20 years because I let them seed out every year but they are not the wave kind. My new ones are so I’m definitely going to try this as I’m not sure they will seed out like my old ones. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!! I’ve subscribed 🙂
Thanks and good luck Susan!
Brag all you want! This saved me a lot of work! Thank you 🌺
LOL, glad it helped, Cynthia!
awesome video Mike! keep up the great work!
thanks, Samuel!
Hi Mike today I've been out in the garden. Getting cleaned and filled ready my tubas for dahlias tomorrow. We are expecting snow here. I'm going to put them in the shed till snow has past over. I'm intending to have my own compost area built soon. Great advice for fertiliser. I love per tunics in hanging baskets so this advice will be great. Hope my plants will grow huge this year. Well bye for now and keep safe with your family keep up the great channel videos. Julie from Lancashire in the UKx.
Compost, as you know, is great for gardens! We just planted some iris and I'd love to get into dahlias, just need to prepare a place for them. Thanks for watching!
This was so awesome! Thanks! I had some petunias that actually wintered over because I was, um, too lazy to clean out my pots 😅 So I'm going to try to root them to fill all of my other pots. You make it look so easy!!
It is easy! You've got this, Nicole!
Mike thank you for doing that experiment wow how time consuming for you and to see the results over a period of time just wonderful thank you!!!!
You're welcome Robert! I actually do that with most all of my gardening videos. That's my claim to fame, haha. I always have several videos waiting to develop over months of time.
Merci. I loved your experiment. I’m sold. I will try your recipe. I’m new in gardening and i’m excited to try fertilizing my petunias and other baskets. Merci from 🇫🇷
Thanks for sharing your experiment, I'm going to try your fertilizer mix.😀
Thank you so much my flowers baskets are doing amazing.
Wonderful!
Beautiful petunias !
Thank you for your videos Mike. I will go further to your videos for me to learn. I'm your subscriber from Philippines
Awesome, thank you!
I used this mixture and it’s amazing… my flower pots and hanging baskets are full of flowers. I also used the plant food on my sunflowers 🌻 in my garden and they are growing beautifully .. thank you for sharing your video.!
You are so welcome! Glad it's working out for you Stacy.
I shared your channel to my friends on facebook .. you're awesome to watched how to learn those gorgeous idea using the suitable soil and fertilizer for the plants .. great things to remember , I save all your videos to watched in the future. Thanks Mike Have a bless day.
Thanks so much for your support, Donna! Glad you enjoy the videos.
Wow what a great experiment & video, thanks for sharing. I normally dont learn to much in most vids but I learned something new. Thank you! Lucky wife gets great flowers:)
Glad you learned from it. That's the goal!
@@MikeKincaid79 but now I cant find the mothers plant food a/b that I can afford:(
Hi Mike. I was excited right along with you , I just discovered your videos and have being watching. I will be going to the garden center right now to buy petunias to try this experiment.. thanks 😊
Have fun with it, Pat!
Love this information-feel like I am on a field trip to learn new things I wouldn’t get to see. Love your videos!! 🥰
Thanks so much, Debby! Glad you're along for the ride.
Great video Mike!
Thanks, Nick!
A fun video and helpful too, Mike! You should toot your horn! Mike's Mix was a great idea! I agree, your mix grew a more beautiful plant, stems, foliage and abundant beautiful red flowers 🌹💐. I found it easier for me to get my planter ready and just sprinkle some seeds, water and watch it grow. No transplanting! 💜
Yeah, much easier that way. Enjoy all this beautiful spring weather, Marcia!
Why is it 2am and i can't stop watching! You4 videos are so fun!!!!!!! Pumped
Lol, that's awesome! Glad you're having fun. Time to get out in the garden but first, a couple hours of sleep.
Hi Mike, " they're absolutely beautiful, i'm just telling you my way (I root them in water) i just cut some cutting (clones) and I put then in water at the roof (the sun), and then at day three i check them, and i see a 1000 one has rooted like crazy " (I'm just telling) , god luck Mike 🙋.
Thanks, Mahmoud, I may try this.
A Few things root well in just water. I find they are set back when you try to acclimate them to growing in soil once rooted. Not that it can't work but for me it's not worth it.
@@dougr.2245 I read somewhere growers acclimate by adding soil to the water.
@@chieflouie2821 yeah it slowly absorbs it and allows for a slow acclimation. I've been researching it to try bc of my poor success with water to soil transplant.
I’ll try that . But not now . I’m from Anaheim California and we have heat wave to 107 degrees few day last week.
Petunias are my absolute favourite plants I love them 🌺🌺🌺 I'm in UK 🇬🇧
ThankYou Mike for sending the link, finding it hard to purchase the Mother Plant Fertiliser here in the UK.
A lot of people have told me that and so I'm going to have to come up with a solution at some point.
I'll stand up and tell everyone, That man knows what he is doing, so listen to Him. How's that! 😅🤣😅🤣😅🤣
Lol, thanks for the standing ovation!
You are doing a good job .
The Force is with him!
You should make this into a series with other plants and other experiments like with figs and different types of rooting or different rooting hormones for hydrangeas etc.
I'm always looking for more ideas, thanks.
Great video. I can't wait to try your homemade fertilizer.
Works like a charm!
@@MikeKincaid79 I can also use this for my outside hanging baskets.. right Mike? Thank you for sharing.
I am a complete beginner and you have infected me with your addiction!! I love your channel!!!
Haha, happy to infect! Have fun!!!
Really Mike your mixture is nice
Mike......great video.....interesting test.I've been using Miracle Grow Shake 'n Feed pellets and have had great success over the past few years.🇨🇦
Really like the Mike's mix result. And I love petunia. May have to try.
It sure did work well!
@@MikeKincaid79 indeed it did
I will do it for you... Toot Toot! Great instructional video!
Haha, thanks Brenda!
Hi Mike, Just wanted to say how happy I am to see how huge your channel is getting! You deserve it with such amazing and extensive videos that take months at times. I am currently trying to root a couple of my petunias but was wondering if you've ever done a video on Impatiens and rooting them to keep for the following years? If so, could you point me to the video and if not could you?
Thanks so much! I'm in awe of how big this channel has gotten and although it's evolved over the years, I try to keep it down to earth and real, staying connected to how it got started. Glad you enjoy it. I don't have any impatiens videos but, yes, you can do the same with them. Maybe it's time to do some videos about them.
@@MikeKincaid79 Yes! I've watched you since you were a smaller channel. I usually buy petunias and impatiens for my baskets. I'm currently trying to root double petunias... hoping it works out!
Good ONYA mate, another great vid. Thanks..
Thanks, Andrew.
Love the comparison... awesome job!
Thanks, Karen! This was a fun experiment.
You’re fun! The big surprise for me was, just days from clippings, to a little plant, to blooms ! Awesome 😎 also so handsome and articulate... psst... I’m old enough to be your mother... keep up the good work, dedication, communication, education! BTW the white board cracked me up ...🙀
Just found your channel! Love this!
Thank you, Cindy, and welcome to the family!
OH YEAH!! Doris Day's Send Me No Flowers....a Burt Bacharach and Hal David song commissioned for her film of the same title in 1964. OMG that VOICE! Great sound.... Listen to it normal speed sometime on YT. Love the petunia rooting. Amazing growth on your fert mix Mike! I'm gonna look at that vid and look into making some of it for my petunia's. J
Glad you enjoyed the video, Jake! I love the older music and I'll look it up, thanks.
Hi there. I found your channel and subscribed. It's great all you tips and I never new about the cuttings. I'm new at all this gardening. I found my favourite hobby now. I will have to catch up with all your posts. Such great ideas and you!
'Be saved me many £...... It's winter here in UK and were in covid lock down ,so my garden has become my go to place. Yes even the snow won't stop me preparing ground and tidying pots and stuff. Love your channel catch you later. Health and wealth wishes Julie from Lancashire UK . Xxxxxx
So glad you're enjoying the channel, Julie! Yes, lockdown has put a bit of damper on things but they can't take away our gardening!
I just love your videos.
Great experiment! Nicely done. 😃
Thanks!
Very nice test, Mike. Your mixture looks like the best choice. I think you also found strong evidence that Epsom Salt isn't really as helpful as we've been told by, well, everyone. As you said, the petunia with only Epsom Salt did the same as nothing, maybe a little worse. I've quit using Epsom Salt in my mixes, and I think I get equal or better results. Thank you for your videos
You're very welcome Don. Thanks for watching.
Blabla bla blabla..... Pffff talk/yell too, wayyyy too much..a stream off words. Info is great but just couldn't finish.
Thanks mike!👍🌺
You are welcome!
I love these flowers so much and smell.
They sure do light the place up!
I've just potted-up my petunias for this year (2022). I normally always used just the Miracle-Gro and I always got good results. I am going to try your concoction and see how my plants do this year. I was able to purchase on-line the A and B of Mother Plant. I hear people were finding it hard to find both A and B. I always fertilize weekly through the season so it will be interesting to see just how well they do this year.
It’s a great mix. Glad you could find it.
@@MikeKincaid79 I have to say that your concoction was a total success this year (2022)! I fertilized weekly on Sunday and watered normally during the week. I've heavily cut back my petunias twice during the season and they came back as bushy as ever. I have to discard my pots/plants early this year as I am moving soon, but I've learned a lot using this mixture of fertilizer and the kind of petunias to use in a heavily deer infested area in northern Wisconsin. I'm already planning for my garden for 2023 and saving money in propagating petunias for the next growing season. Now I will follow your steps in propagating roses because I plan on digging up what I had planted in past years and will work on getting the cuttings to last through winter 2022-2023.
Loved it!
You are a genius Mike..
Haha, I don't know about that, but I always have been fairly intuitive.
This already sounds like an elementary school science fair project.... love it.
Awesome video! Thanks!
You're welcome, Cay!
Awesome Mike 👍great video love it 😍
Awesome thank you!
Another great video. If you're looking for unusual Petunias to please the Wife, and another experiment in the process, how about cloning the "Night Sky" variety and comparing how temperature affects the flower colour from white to starry to purple.
That sounds really cool!
Interesting. I will try it.
Calibrachoa "million bells" His flowers is similar to Petunias flowers. It’s perfect for use in hanging baskets, containers or as a small area ground cover.
I plan to put these into hanging baskets.
You will definitely get a great hanging baskets !
I am so happy found your channel .. I am beginner and I am getting addicted to plant but don’t what is best soil and fertilizer
There is no "best" soil or fertilizer. It really depends on what plants you're growing. So exciting that you are getting into plants. Have fun on your journey.
Hi. Love your showing on planting g. Love it
Mike..
You're wonderful planters. I love beautiful red flowers in clear tub to see roots glowing in and good job, Mike !!😊🌷⚘️🌹🥀
Thank you very much!
@@MikeKincaid79 you're welcome!🌷⚘️🌷⚘️😉
@@MikeKincaid79 so we can’t start them in the larger clear cups? I guess there is a reason to start in the smaller trays then move them? Want to try a some bubble gum petunias right now
Thank God! Ive been wondering what I've been doing wrong. Houseplants never look healthy. All I use is miracle grow! Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Hi Mike, SO excited to see a new video! I am curious about how you propagated the petunia cuttings back in January. What environment did you use? Was it the same as your other petunia cuttings from your previous video? It looked like you were using a grow light and they were indoors? I was hoping you could explain a bit more in detail about how you got these beautiful petunias from point "A" to point "B." I'm in the Seattle area so our zone is the same and I'd love to have the success you're having now but am not sure if you used the same method as you did in your previous video that was done later in the spring. We just now have petunias available in the local nurseries that are big enough to propagate and I'm chomping at the bit to do this! Thanks again for your entertaining and informative videos!
Hey neighbor. For this experiment I just propagated them indoors under a grow light setup that I have. All the videos I did through this past winter on houseplants are under the same light so you can watch them to get a better idea of what I'm using. It's an 8 bulb fixture that uses t8 fluorescent bulbs that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot. They're not grow lights but they are 6500K to encourage vegetative growth. The video I did later in the spring was done a couple years ago out in my hoophouse that is covered with 50% shade plastic.
@@MikeKincaid79 thanks! I hadn't thought to watch any of your indoor winter plant videos so I will check them out. I'm attempting to propagate (using your petunia method) Calibrachoa cuttings and so far so good! I'll be over the moon if it works! Those are by FAR my favorite annuals but are SO expensive and virtually impossible to even find seeds so I'm hoping this'll work! On another note... My parent's entire backyard is lined with Hydrangeas that my mom propagated throughout the years. Her method is pretty random...I grew up wondering what these "dirt Popsicles" (the failed attempts) all over the greenhouse was but I can now appreciate what she was doing! I think even YOU would be dang impressed (: . I'm looking forward to propagating my own using your tote method...I think it will improve my chances, especially in our bizarre weather. So happy to have found your CZcams site and look forward to watching what your wife is doing!
i give you an A+ on this one mike. good show. i noticed the one petunia with red and some white on the flower. that looked really beautiful. i remember back in college, the class did a similar experiment with denial of certain minerals to plants and there were big differences. I'm gonna try your combo on my housed geraniums and see what happens. -- I am feeling much better but still in lockdown. almost 7,000 deaths in my county. --be well and have a bright easter to you and your family. later, carmine.

OMG!! This is such great information and it's saving me mo' money!!! I love petunias! Mike's fertilization!! a win!!!
This really worked my flowers are still blooming.
Sweet!
I never knew you could clone a Petunia. I have to give it a try. Just need some root hormone.
You can root them without hormone!
Trying without hormone now and towards the end of the season, I’m going to take more cuttings and try to overwinter them. Luckily we seldom have frost or snow where I live.
Greetings and best wishes from India.. Hope you are doing well.. Pls upload how to grow Peonies in a effective way.. Thank you so much for your success in all your efforts..
Interesting how differently each one reacted.
