  • Compact sedans may not be as popular as they used to be, but historically, some of the most well-known models in the local market fell under this category. We’re talking names like the Toyota Corolla, the Nissan Sentra, the Mitsubishi Lancer, and the Honda Civic.
It’s that last nameplate that the newly launched 2023 GAC Empow has its sights set on. Like the latest Civic generation, GAC’s compact sedan is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, and its output figures are definitely up to par with those of the Honda. What it doesn’t have is the sporty roots and racing pedigree of its Japanese peer-but for casual drivers, that’s not necessarily a deal breaker.
Does the Empow have what it takes to woo segment buyers? Click play on our review of the mid-spec 2023 GAC Empow GB (P1,215,000) to find out, and let us know what you want us to test-drive next in the comments.

No surprise as they are the Chinese partner of Honda & Toyota. GAC is one of the best Chinese brand and even auto brand.

😂 GAC is not on the same level as GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc. Even Kia and Hyundai are superior. I would never buy a Chinese car over the Japanese, Korean, European or American equivalent.

Trunk space is acceptable. It is on sedan category not crossover nor hatchback/sportsback, so why compare it to those?

Was the ride bumpy? I keep seeing the camera bobbing up and down, haven't seen that on most of your car reviews 🤔

good especially at the back exterior.

Interesting review. Wouldn't call it great by far, but definitely interesting. Will try to test drive one to see if it's really that dull on acceleration, or if the drive modes just wasn't explored well in this review.
And yes, the Civic is definitely on a different level compared to this but I'm quite intrigued to see if it's really that far apart in actual.

I have a video trying out sport mode of this car, it even has a launch control feature like high end sports cars haha (in that mode, the car accelerates aggressively to the point the wheels spin/screeches!)
